| #1celestialkinFeb 06, 2008 11:27:47 | Hello, This is my first post in the Eberron forums, so please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section. Since I have been coming to the Wizards.com forums I have seen this character on this icon: ![]() http://forums.gleemax.com/index.php I have wanted to know who she is, and what book she is from. Since she appears next to Elimentster (I probably spelled that wrong) on the front page I am guessing she might be a significant NPC in the Eberron setting, or something similar. Is she? Is she just a random image? Either way a source would be greatly appreciated. The artist's name would also be very appreciated, since I am hoping he might sell prints of his work or something similar. Thanks in advance for any help! |
| #2SyltorianFeb 06, 2008 11:52:55 | It is the illustration that goes with a PrC in the Eberron Campaign Setting, the Dragonmark Heir. You can find the full illustration in the Art Gallery, along with the name of the artist, Lucio Parrillo. She is not a specific NPC; she doesn't even have a name that I am aware of - although given the mark on her back, she seems to belong to House Lyrandar. Oh. And get into Eberron, now you are here. There's lots of similar art. And it's a good setting too. ;) |

I am very grateful. As for getting into Eberron, I wanted to. As a Psionics fan I have thought about it quite a bit. Sadly I was never able to find a group into it, and now with the death of 3.5 around the corner it is too late. I am already putting away my books and materials, so I am not looking into starting a new setting. Thanks, though! ![]() However, Eberrons art and style always seemed to call out to me. It really did seem to fit my tastes. Oh, and just to double check is she an elf? |
| #4julescarvFeb 06, 2008 12:13:28 | She's probably supposed to be an artist's rendition of Ashaya d'Lyrander, the sample Dragonmark Heir (half-elf sorcerer 4/dragonmark heir 3). |

There's always the novels... ;) There's even a few that feature psionics. |

Oh, so she actually does have a name? Must have overlooked that. Sorry, Celestialkin: looks as though my information was not complete. Incidentally: I don't think I came across Ashaya d'Lyrandar anywhere else... has anyone else? As for getting into Eberron, I wanted to. As a Psionics fan I have thought about it quite a bit. Sadly I was never able to find a group into it, and now with the death of 3.5 around the corner it is too late. I am already putting away my books and materials, so I am not looking into starting a new setting. Thanks, though! That's sad... especially with the new campaign setting not going to be out until 2009, afaik. But as Ashlock says, you can still have fun with the world itself, even without a group, with novels and general immersion into the setting. And, of course, the boards here are usually quite friendly and willing to share ideas, too. Though I do not blame you for being wary of buying 3.5 setting material with 4e around the corner, at least the fluff will (mostly, I trust) stay the same. Oh, and just to double check is she an elf? As JulesCARV posted above, she is a half-elf. I do not know how much you know about Eberron, so essentially: The tattoo-like pattern on her back is actually a so-called "dragonmark", a magical birthmark that grants special powers to their bearers. They are tied to both race and and to bloodline (and the bloodlines have built financial empires on their respective marks). So, the Mark of Storm (the one this half-elf has), can only be borne by half-elves with blood-relations to House Lyrandar, and the House itself has a huge influence in agriculture (they control the weather) and sea travel, and dominate the airship business. |
| #7HellcowFeb 06, 2008 12:53:08 | And I'll just note that if you keep your eyes open, you'll see Ashaya again in the art of City of Stormreach. |

I have read them referenced in the few Eberron books I have looked through (mostly for psionics stuff), but I was never sure exactly what they were. I figured it had to do with certain clans/houses, but I was under the impression they were tattooed on instead of being birthmarks. And I'll just note that if you keep your eyes open, you'll see Ashaya again in the art of City of Stormreach. Interesting.... I hope I come across a copy of City of Stormreach. |
| #9HellcowFeb 06, 2008 12:58:12 | Of course, as to where she is, I should also point out that I married her, as shown by photo one and photo two. |
| #10vegetalss4Feb 06, 2008 13:02:22 | well they really arent birthmarks, ass you are not born with one. Instead they might manifest later in life, if you are of the right race and bloodline, they might not. |
| #11eehamburgFeb 06, 2008 16:05:59 | Of course, as to where she is, I should also point out that I married her, as shown by photo one and photo two. So which came first? Ashaya or the Ellen's tattoo (which coincidentally isn't big enough to match Ashaya's)? |
| #12HellcowFeb 06, 2008 16:46:03 | The picture came first. Ellen decided she wasn't prepared to get quite so large a tattoo, so she only has the least mark. |
| #13celestialkinFeb 06, 2008 16:54:15 | Of course, as to where she is, I should also point out that I married her, as shown by photo one and photo two. My my. You are indeed a lucky man Hellcow. Makes sense that you are a game designer. It always seems like only the DMs ever get the few gamer girls. I am guessing it has to do with the better than average charisma for a "geek". ![]() Anyways, are you a writer for WotC? |
| #14EdymnionFeb 06, 2008 17:01:28 | Anyways, are you a writer for WotC? He's Keith Baker, he wrote the setting. Basically, he's like a much cooler and more people friendly version of Ed Greenwood. He's technically a freelance writer for WotC, but around here we just sort of call him god. ;) |
| #15eehamburgFeb 06, 2008 17:02:12 | are you a writer for WotC? He is the origin of Eberron. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the beginning and the end. He simply is. |

He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the beginning and the end. He simply is. Oh! Then please forgive my ignorance. I humble before thee. ![]() As a psionics fan let me just say thanks for incorporating it into your setting. You seemed to give it more attention and respect than anyone else did. |
| #17EdymnionFeb 06, 2008 18:22:11 | I hear if we can make his head swell enough, it'll burst and candy comes out. ;) |
| #18magicchupacabraFeb 06, 2008 19:18:32 | I hear if we can make his head swell enough, it'll burst and candy comes out. ;) Thats only if you treat the remains with acid then place it in a furnace. Then you get 10d10 x 1000 pieces of candy. |
| #19HellcowFeb 06, 2008 20:19:04 | Basically, he's like a much cooler and more people friendly version of Ed Greenwood. Actually, in my limited experience, Ed Greenwood is extremely people friendly. If I had to choose someone I knew to play Santa, I'd ask Ed. I hear if we can make his head swell enough, it'll burst and candy comes out. That's why I try to read lots of threads by people who hate Eberron. I love my candy too much to give it away. |
| #20GurvFeb 07, 2008 5:12:18 | That's why I try to read lots of threads by people who hate Eberron. I love my candy too much to give it away. Also because people who hate Eberron are to be damned for eternity. Cursed to be plagued by the antics of a demon-possessed cow bent on the destruction of all things, they will rue the day they post anything remotely negative about the greatest of all campaign settings. |
| #21AshlockFeb 07, 2008 5:37:47 | I hear if we can make his head swell enough, it'll burst and candy comes out. Or dragonshards, at any rate. He's basically an Eberron piñata. Also, world creators aren't the only ones who get to marry gamer geeks. My wife is a half-elf monk. ![]() |
| #22eehamburgFeb 07, 2008 9:51:50 | Or dragonshards, at any rate. He's basically an Eberron piñata. Yeah, but where's the picture of your wife dressed up as the character? hmmm? ;) ;) ;) jk Maybe we should start a new thread to ask all of the writers, novelists, creators, etc. about their spouses and if they are gamer geeks too? whaddaya think? |
| #23AshlockFeb 07, 2008 10:38:46 | Hey. My wife was both a gypsy and a Jedi at various points of previous GenCons. ![]() Maybe we should start a new thread to ask all of the writers, novelists, creators, etc. about their spouses and if they are gamer geeks too? whaddaya think? Not sure how large a thread that would really be. |
| #24eehamburgFeb 07, 2008 10:53:57 | Not sure how large a thread that would really be. Oh well ... LOL |
| #25ShiftkittyFeb 07, 2008 14:33:25 | Or dragonshards, at any rate. He's basically an Eberron piñata. I'm a female DM who married the party's wizard. I'll spare you guys any photos, though. Right now I'm not exactly chainmail bikini material (workin' on it, though!). |

Right now I'm not exactly chainmail bikini material (workin' on it, though!). Probably a good idea. I am pretty sure you would end up with more than a few fanboy stalkers around here if you did. Kinda like what happens at gaming stores. ![]() Anyway, I did not mean only game designers. It just seems that higer-ups in the geek/D&D world like DMs, designers, etc always tend to be the ones who attract the few gamer girls. Sorry if I offended anyone. |

It just seems that higer-ups in the geek/D&D world like DMs, designers, etc always tend to be the ones who attract the few gamer girls. Sorry if I offended anyone. Women like men with power ;) |
| #28celestialkinFeb 07, 2008 23:25:38 | OMG, you must have read about my Barnes & Noble experiences! Actually no. I am sorry to hear that I was right, though. I was referring to what happens to most women at gaming store. Did stalkers from this site discover your identity there or something? Women like men with power ;) Power huh? I wonder what it would take to conquer Florida. ![]() |
| #29ShiftkittyFeb 08, 2008 0:02:38 | The B&N experiences were actually funny. One involved a gamer guy who began casually chatting with me at the D&D books. No big whoop. Eventually it became obvious he was hitting on me. I kept fidgetting with my wedding ring and, when he didn't get the point, I mentioned my husband directly. In the nick of time, my fellow-gamer husband, all 6'5-and-not-skinny of him, comes into the aisle and scores a natural 20 on his Intimidate check against the creep. The look on the guy's face was priceless!![]() The other incident was "Toot". I was once again at the D&D stuff and was soon joined by a "just not right" looking guy. From the corner of my eye he seemed to be standing still, looking at the Manga books. Then out of nowhere he goes "Toot!" Okay, I've got time to kill, so I calmly leave the area for my second fave aisle, History. There it is again, like a sub pinging with sonar, "Toot!" I didn't see him, but I decided to move again. I swear he was following me! Everywhere I went I could hear him from maybe one or two rows away, even into rows that would have put him in books dealing with maternity and other women's health issues. "Toot!" I finally made a quick exit, half expecting to see him follow me out to the parking lot. I've never encountered him again at this store. Funny in a creepy way! ![]() ![]() ![]() Most other guys I've run into have been decent, thankfully, but those two really added some color to the day! Good luck with Florida. You could always use butterfly ballots... ![]() |
| #30drunkmonkFeb 12, 2008 19:00:44 | Nerd breeding is the real cause of aberrant dragonmarks. DM |
| #31magicchupacabraFeb 15, 2008 1:11:22 | Power huh? I wonder what it would take to conquer Florida. Easy. Stop the tourists from visiting period. Show that it will some how lower our taxes and still not give us an income tax. We'll welcome you with a ticker tape parade, shower you with rose petals, and treat you as if you were a god. Good luck with Florida. You could always use butterfly ballots... That only works on the elderly in Dade and Broward county. |
| #32Elton74Feb 17, 2008 10:11:17 | Of course, as to where she is, I should also point out that I married her, as shown by photo one and photo two. Which is neat, of course. :D On the subject of the art, she looked a little inquisitive. Not exactly showing off, but inquisitive. |
| #33warlockofsiberysMar 11, 2008 21:38:17 | Nerd breeding is the real cause of aberrant dragonmarks. Ouch. My character concept for a semi-fiend-ish aberrant marked sorcerer/warlock just became a little less cool... |
| #34tyr_13Mar 15, 2008 0:50:17 | And this thread needs to make a survival check dc 38 to get back on track. It's way off the beaten path. lol |
| #35NivedMar 15, 2008 1:21:55 | My my search modifier isn't high enough, since Kieth mentioned it I've been trying to find Ashaya in the art of Stormreach and haven't found her. Who knew spotting a cute red headed half elf would be so tough? |
| #36lujayne34Mar 15, 2008 14:30:41 | My my search modifier isn't high enough, since Kieth mentioned it I've been trying to find Ashaya in the art of Stormreach and haven't found her. Found her on page 12 I believe. |
| #37NivedMar 15, 2008 23:49:05 | How could I have missed that? |
