| #1skrap-sanFeb 22, 2008 16:04:00 | So I'm going to start up a new campaign soon. And I'm going to base parts of it around wisper rock. More spesificly the adventure seed in ECS pg141 where they find a completly deserted town near wisper rock, and it looks like everyone just stopped doing what they were doing and left. This leads me with the followng request. Do you have any sugestions about what one can find under the ruins? I have some ideas for the town, but it would naturally help if i knew what was under there. PS: forgott to mention that the group will start at lvl 1 |

However, I'd be both violating copyright and influencing your imagination if I were to tell you what it has to say. However, these were my musings on the subject before reading Five Nations: Old place names are usually rather literal, even in different languages. So Whisper Rock must have something to do with whispers. Whispers are secretive, so it might be a place where something secret occurred. Thoughts along this line include, -the place is haunted by the shades of two dragonmarked heirs, who used the ruins as a trysting place. When they eventually died, perhaps at the persecution of their families, their ghosts returned here to haunt the place where they were happy once. -Whisper Rock itself is an altar, buried below the ground by age, with old orcish ruins above. Here the forces of nature were revered by the Gatekeepers with secret rites, to keep hidden the true final resting place of Vvaraak. The Rock was partially imbued with Vvaraak's spirit, and even today if one is fortunate one can hear his teachings of druidism. -It was the site of a small failed shifter kingdom, deep in the woods. Shifters and werewolves lived together, and thought to bring themselves to prominence in the midst of the Galifaran Kingdom. But they were a prime target for the Flame's Inquisition, and before they were wiped out the most powerful lycanthropes used sorcery to meld into a grotesque pillar of stone, which would whisper into the minds of whoever visited the cruelties of the knights of Thrane, and the secrets of the failed shifter realms. |

| #4cuaglarFeb 23, 2008 13:07:48 | Ah, trapped under there? Right. Well, there's already so many examples of evil things trapped under the earth. An idea I used a while ago had that switched around; in a FR game, an evil wizard was trying to keep a powerful good outsider bound in a crystal coffin, using an artifact spear. Anyway, perhaps this time you should use the material from 5N, but instead of some sinister thing, perhaps it is really a powerful force for good, trying to break free. Perhaps a couatl that got a piece of its own medicine, perhaps an archon from Shavarath, something. Anyway, it can detect presences around it, and speak into their minds, but it can't discern their alignments or purposes. So it tries to use subterfuge, and occasionally it is so subtle that the PC's accidentally get it wrong and do something... questionable. Then they'll think, "Oh no! That thing at Whisper Rock is evil!" and try to help prevent its release. If it comes to the verge of breaking free, and the PC's hear about it, they rush to the scene, anticipating battle to stop this evil from coming to Eberron, and what do they find? Dragon Below Cultists, or some other evil organisation (preferably Lords of Dust) trying to do exactly the same thing. |
| #5skrap-sanFeb 23, 2008 18:18:04 | You my friend is a genius! What better way to show of the shadowy parts of Eberron than actually having a good outsider captured and feared. Thanks, now I will go read books about beyond good things to have captured down there. |
| #6rechanMar 15, 2008 19:11:00 | I used the Whispering Rock as the cause of Desolation's disappearances. Before the Demon Wastes had been reduced to its current state, the land was still rich with Khyber Dragonshards. One of the biggest outside of the Lair of the Keeper's was one beneath the Whispering Rock. That did not change the day the Syberis shard the size of a wagon fell from the sky. It hit the Whispering rock, and the Syberis and Kyber shards were bound together by such a tremendous fource. The hatred that Khyber held for its brother must have bleed into the shards themselves, because the joining of the shards began to fester. And when the taint of the Demon Wastes arrived, it amplified the unnatural power. Whenever the Whispering Rock sensed large gathering of life (Say, large enough to fill a town), its power of binding was amplified by the syberis shard. A purple mist drifted toward this mass quantity of life essence, and it sucked them into the shard wholesale. |
