#2 Syltorian Jun 08, 2013 5:27:14	My guesses are that they do not simply embody elements, but the destructive parts of their nature, and possible that they are influenced by the strongest factions on these planes.  Fire is beneficial if tamed, but in its pure state, a force of destruction, and thus, evil. Fernia gets you volcanos, dry periods which destroy crops, heat waves which kill those who suffer from weak constitutions, wild fires, and other disasters. Risia means famine because of cold weather, snow storms, freezing to death, the extinction of most species (in an Ice Age) and thus the complete lack of life as we know it.  Also, these places are not uninhabited. Devils, demons and other creatures with the [Fire] or [Cold] subtypes (speaking 3.5 here) dwell on those planes, and many of these are evil. As such, it might be conceivable that a war on Fernia turns the plane over to good-aligned fire-based outsiders, in which case the plane's alignment could shift. There's a precedent with Dal Quor (in theory, since nobody really knows what the previous incarnation was like). But currently, there are signs that Fernia prepares an invasion (the Sulatar drow are working towards this Time of Fire), and again, spreading and consuming is in the nature of fire. It is not unlikely that Risia might be preparing something similar, covering the world with ice and creating an everlasting winter which is more fierce than even the (more metaphorical one) the Children of Winter are preparing for.
