Would you that the WoW Tauren (from WoW RPG, 3.5 d20) would be a good replacement for Minotaurs?

I was thinking of free range Tauren tribes in Breland. I.e. they split from the Minotaurs in Droaam a long time ago, and range over the huge glasslands and prairies of that nation.

The race is presumably balanced for 3.5 as a base (i.e. non-ECL) race. It should work out with no problems.

Tauren culture (as I remember from WoW) seem to have that Orcish connection with nature/druidism and the elves - ancestors looking over your shoulder thing going on. the totem architecture always makes me think of the Dragonborn tho.

Could be interesting to have a city built on towering mesas somewhere in Droaam.

Tauren are a peaceful shamanistic culture in WoW but also have a "warrior caste" amongst their kind that does battle when required. If i remember from the WoW d20 stuff though they were overpowered in comparison to other starting races - can't remember and i dont have the book anymore so I could be wrong.

Id probably go with it but id use the Eldeen Reaches and have them related to the Orc Gatekeepers somewhere along the line. I think that would make for a cool option.

In the meantime your idea has prompted me to try and get hold of a copy of the WoW d20 stuff and convert it to 4e - could be fun !

Well, I thought they were a little overpowered too. But then I looked at the Forsaken. As an undead race, they are probably game breakers as an ECL+0 race.

I generally see the Tauren as being inspired by the Lakota and Dakota Sioux, which were Plains tribes. However, they weren't the only Native American tribe (with their own culture). There were a lot of tribes that lived in harmony with the forests. The Iroquois Confederacy, and the Puget Sound Salish tribes are all examples of tribes that lived in the forests. A little research into the Iroquois Confederacy or the Salish can give you some insight into what the Tauren of the Eldeen Reaches would look like.

As for Tech Level, I'm placing my Tauren at around GURPS Tech Level 0 (Stone Age) with some GURPS Tech Level 3 influence (steel weapons, mostly). Most of Khorvaire is Tech Level 4 with strong Tech Level 5 influence (Tech Level 4 is Renaissance (1450 to 1800 A.D.) while Tech Level 5 is the Industrial Revolution).

I can't stop you in doing that. *smile*

Droaam, the Talenta Plains, Valenar, and parts of Breland could look like the Southwestern United States. Utah is a land of Deserts with Mountains, with Arizona following suit. Let me check the map of Droaam to see where you can place such a land.

Based on the Map of Droaam, Droaam is a fertile place. Assuming, of course, that the planet Eberron rotates so that the sun rises from the East and sets in the West (on Dragonlance, everything is laid west). Breland is a land of deserts until you reach Sharn. The Graywall rainshadow creates a desert ranging from Castle Arkhain to Shadowlock Keep, north to south. And from the Graywall to the Dagger River.

You could just replace the ibixians ("Goatfolk" in MM3) with tauren. That way they already have a sordid history with Aundair and Breland.

I've read about them. But didn't take a close look at "In Eberron" entry.
