So, planning the next leg of the adventure I'm running my PCs through, involving giant ruins in Xen'drik.
I'm still planning on what type of monsters I want to populate the ruin with, but I know I want some Encounter Traps, from Secrets of Xen'drik (and Dungeonscape).
Here's my take on an old classic, the crushing ceiling. It doesn't follow the exact rules of encounter traps, so I figured I put it up here for critique.
Ceiling Crush Trap CR 8 Description This ceiling of this 30-foot-by-30-foot room is rigged to descend and crush those below. Pressure plates lining the width of the room cause all the doors to the room to shut and lock (2 locks for each door, DC 25 Disable Device check), and triggers the trap. The ceiling slowly begins to descend, giving anyone inside one round to react to the falling ceiling before it begins to crush them. Search DC 28; Type Mechanical Trigger Location; Init +4 Effect Crushing Ceiling (Automatically hits, 6d6 points of bludgeoning damage), all creatures in room, starting on second round. Duration 11 rounds Destruction 3 rounds of DC 19 Strength checks to hold up ceiling jam the mechanism. Disarm Disable Device DC 31 (at corners of the room, disables whole trap) |
