Young Black Dragon too much?

I've been working on my first intro adventure that I plan on running (in Shadowmarches) and have decided that my BBG is going to be a young black dragon (rogue from all other Eberron dragons). He is going to be "dominating" a tribe of bullywugs (yeah, the podcast this month inspired me, and I've always loved bullywugs, especially from the old cartoon!), but my question is, is a young black dragon just "too much" for a party of 5 - 6 1st level characters? He may or may not have any others with him (depending on how the previous encounters play out, but never to push it above a "very challenging" encounter).

May 30, 2009 20:56:21 When 4e was first demo'd there was a notorious encounter with a YBD that was either a cakewalk or a total party wipe. Mostly depending on whether people still had their dailies and whether the wizard cast sleep on it and it failed its saving throw.

So it can go either way. If your party conserves dailies they should fare alright, (especially with a 6th man). However if they go in down a few dailies, and don't work as a team they should be able to make it.

You could always use a pair of black dragon wyrmling (from the draconomicon) make them brothers have them banter with each other... if you're concerned about a TPK.

May 31, 2009 10:55:19 Just remember you could have their older brother (or sister) show up later. Also, I just wanted to say, that I without meaning to completely stole the idea of brother black dragon wyrmlings. I thought I got it from the top of my head but nope blatently stole it.
