The campaign is basically going to be about a group of agents who work independently but are thrown together for investigations and missions involving tracking people down and assassinations, etc. This does not necessarily mean the city needs to be particularly gritty. They would be under some organisation which I will probably invent myself that hires them out to carry out these jobs privately. They will have special privileges within the city and have free reign to do much of what they want. Like I say I've been looking at Waterdeep, but there are really no preferences and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions about some great cities that would really suit this kind of thing? The PCs would be starting probably from very low levels but would still be specialists in their fields. My overall feel for the campaign would be quite gothic and dark, and it would be great if architecture, for instance, could reflect this. (If you've ever played the PS1 game Vagrant Story think along those lines). Finally, it would be also handy if there is a fair amount of information available about the city to ease the time needed to create and develop it on my part. |

Good town with clear power divides between guilds both legal and illegal. Any highly lawful city might work really, so to me the paladin run Elturgard might be a good suggestion aswell. Or the demonic infested lands of Impiltur might be better served to use if you want to make a stark contrast between the light and dark. The lands are run by paladin dynasties but are cursed with frequent activity from the fiendish planes. |
