| #1ghaashmogFeb 04, 2012 15:56:50 | Here's the pitch, To Spellstitch an undead you need to beable to cast spells equivalent... but the spells the Undead 'know', do they have to be spells the Creator knows? I apologize if this was discussed else where, in some depths of a post I may never find by searching for it. I have a Dread Necromancer, according to the passage in the MMII I have, "Spellstitched creatures can be created only by a wizard or sorceror of sufficient level to cast the spells to be imbued imbued in the undead's body." <- Obviously, this may have to be 'home ruled' to allow dread-sorcery as I have come to call it. This leaves me to ask, does the Creator pick the spells, or is it something the Undead itself 'chooses' as per a sorceror? I have a full salvo of spells that could be used, however If the selection is any arcane spells of those sub schools, this changes the selection process and tactical use of this. Obviously, I in the long run might spell stitch my own flesh-stitch familiar, I plan on having an imp. (Which I may have to look up an answer for at a later point..) Undead Leadership's Cohort, also makes this useful. Ideas for 'skeletal mages' also come to mind. Create-Skeletal Undead on a spellcaster's bones and spell-stitch them ontop of this could be worth the effort. Spell stitch myself once I am a Lich, this raises that question as a core component as well. Could this be used for a Dread Necro-Lich, to increase their use of specific spells they use a lot or would it be a way to advance Advanced Learning in an expensive fashion, I can only ask! I've DMed for a long time, and my DM for this game might rule it a different way so I am curious. I can give an example incase anyone needs it; Morbius knows the standard list of Dread Necro spells for first level. He intends to spend a thousand gold and 500 exp to imbue his skeleton, Rocky. Morbius, if he is limited to his own spell selection could give Rocky chilld touch and inflict wounds, for example. If Rocky is able to 'choose' his spells(Or if Morbius can assign them?), as if this expenditure makes him a Sorceror of HD=CL based on his Wisdom modifier (According to the Template)... then he could have a pair of spells like, Mage Armor and Corrosive Grasp. Two spells Morbius would only beable to cast via a wand or scroll. A lot of thought was put into this, because in the end it could cost a whole level's worth to make what undead he does have, much more potent. It also helps me to gauge what sort of undead are worth investing in or investigating. |

Hope your still checking this thread, but here would be my answer: You can Imbue the Spellstitched creature (a Skeleton Rocky) with two 1st level spells you have access to. Because their Wisdom is 10, they can cast that spell 4/day. These must be either Conjuration, Evocation, or Necromancy. The level of these spells does NOT equal yours, but it's equal to the number of HD the spellstitched creature has. So if your 8th level Dread Necromancer imbues Rocky (a 3 HD skeleton), it'll have a caster level of 3rd. Hope that helps. |
