Execuse me if this is the wrong place to ask this (it probably is) but i dunno where to post it

I'm looking for some guidelines to create a special variation of the paladin class to make possibile create a Paladin of Akadi, the Air Goddess of Faerun Pantheon (now a Primordial right?).

I know that in U.A. there are 3 variations for the paladin class but they don't fit with the one i want.
I found anothers 8 variations (one for each allineament different by LG) in Dragon, but the nearest to be a Paladin of Akadi is a sort of "Nature Paladin", one who love nature and cast spell like "Commune with Nature" and so on.. Nothing to do with an Akadi Paladin.

In a few words I would like to create a variation of the paladin class to make playable an "Air-Paladin" emphasizing the "elemental aspect" of it.

For example "Turn Undead" can become "Turn Earth Elementals" and the optional rule (from DMG) of the Celestial Warhorse for high lvs paladin characters can become an "Air-elemental Warhorse" (using Manual of the Planes 3.0).

Please can you help me to make this? Thanks in advance! :D

the celestial war horse could become a celestial pegasus.

the aura of courage can become Eye in the storm: paladins of akadi become immune to all spells with the air discriptor( ie gust of wind) or storm descriptor( ie: storm of vengence) and part memebers with in the 10' radius gain a +4 bonus to saves agains spells of the same.

Creating a variation to the paladin is a direct result to what you want to accomplish - you need to have a picture of your goal:

By playing an akadi paladin do you want to:
A. Be an embodiemnt the air force, attuning yourself till you become an air elemental?
B. A holy, religous man filled with a dedication to the air goddess and commending it's great windy power?
etc...

Meanwhile you can do the following. Do a brainstorming - collect the abilities and mechanics which will serve your feeling of "air paladin".

Just a few to help you start:
* Air spells
* Air domain
* Raptoran substitution level's powers.
* Druid's UA's shapechangin ability.
* Air elementals abilities.

and the like.

What you might consider is just changing some of the Paladin's abilities to meet your needs. For example:

  • detect elemental (as the detect evil spell, but detects elementals)
  • smite elemental (same as the paladin ability, but smites any non-air elemental)
  • Divine Grace (same)
  • Lay on Hands (same)
  • Aura of courage (same)
  • Divine Health (same)
  • Summon Elemental (can summon a medium air elemental)
  • Resist Elemental damage 1/day (resist an amount of damage done by elemental's special attack by 5 at 6th level, 10 at 12th, and 15 at 18th.)

As for spells, take out ones that directly involve evil and replace them with some from the one of the Elemental Domains (air, fire, earth, water).

It's not a complete overhaul, but it's a start.

Thanks for all i'm going to write down this variation class with your suggestions!

The most difficult part is the spell list cuz there are many volumes where u can find paladin spell and so i must to check them all!

-That's still something that I wish WotC did for 3e, that sadly will never be: a Complete Book of Spells, or something like that, compiling all of the spells from all 3e sources, for all base classes, into one book.

True, but you really only need the Player's Handbook, Player's Handbook 2, Spell Compendium, Complete Champion, and Complete Mage to get a full accounting of all the spells in 3.5. The Spell Compendium alone has a good portion of all the Complete series spells (save Champion and Mage) plus most from the FR and EB settings.

-There's my point: That's five different books, and then there's a few stragglers out there. I want my Complete Book of Spells to be complete!

XD i wanna that volume too!

However i begun to write the list of Class Features of an Akadian Paladin:

Aura of Good -> Neutral Alignment so what type of Aura?
Detect Evil -> Detect Elemental (which type? Or all type?)
Smite Evil -> I am undecided cuz if i choose Smite Elemental must be only the opposite ones (Earth Elemental) or I can choose an alignment based smite like Smite Extremists (not N alignments like CG, LG, CE and LE)
Divine Grace -> Same
Lay on Hands -> Same or not? Cuz Healing powers are Good Aligned supernatural ability nope? So i can change it in another power like Resist Elemental Damage (how many dmg and times/day?)
Aura of Courage -> Same
Divine Health -> Same
Turn Undead -> Turn Earth Elementals and/or Rebuke Air Elementals
Special Mount -> The same (and an high level Akadi paladin may choose Air-elemental creature template for his mount)
Remove Disease -> Dunno. What about Air-walk? Or another 4th lv air-spell can be a good choice.

Help me please it's still incomplete! ^_^

well the elven paladin in the races of the wild has an aura against being held, and made the paladin immune to being held.

your paladin's aura should be immuneity to inhaling affecting spells and spell like ablilties, and grant a bonus against them to party memembers.

smite: just use smie infidel, or a smite earth elemental or a smite elemental.

leave lay on hands the same.

May I direct you to spell search? True 'dat it doesn't tell you the spells but you can find the obscure and excotic ones and it's really sweet. So give it a shot.

Ok! I'll try.

Aura of Good > Well, Aura of air. the point is that Earth dudes will be able to detect your aura the same way you detect their 'earth aura'
Detect Evil > Detect earth (yeah, it sucks)
Smite Evil > Smite Earth - simple implementation.
Divine Grace > ... I wouldn't want that to be change, as the player... so...
Lay on Hands > Freedom of Movement or maybe Feather Fall
Aura of Courage > Aura of freedom, based on the Travel domain granted power (PHB pg' 188).
Divine Health > Grant the Air Heritage feat instead (Planar Handbook pg' 37).
Turn Undead > Prob' turn or destroy earth elemental as per the air domain granted power (PHB pg' 185)
Special Mount > Same, but apply only to creatures with the ability to fly.
Remove Disease > Either Fly or Gaseous Form. But only on self, IMO.

Yay?

I truly hope you still visiting here and reading this. Sorry for the late response.

You don't have to apologize man!

However, ty for the answer and the nice proposals but i undestand a thing: this "Air Paladin" (not yours, i mean all the examples shown) or "Paladin of Akadi" is so much original as weak than the standard paladin.

Cuz, for example, my player used (and need to use:D ) a lot of Smite Evil shots, Detect Evil spells and Lay on Hands healings too (it saved his life more than once in the past) and if i change them into Smite Earth Elementals, Detect Elementals and so on they become useless in the type of campaign we are running (with Chaotic Evil Monstrous Humanoid villains).

So, at the end, i think i'll maintain the standard class especially because he (the player) doesn't matter playing an original character, he likes only to deals more damage as possible and crash all the enemies he meet with a single hit...

Thanks to all the guyz who participated in this thread! ;)
