Ok, so the only FR books I've read in a while are Salvatore's, but I want to keep up on the story now, seeing as how I want to play a campaign there. What books are the official 4e ones?

Only ones planned for official game stuff are the FR Campaign Guide and the FR Players Guide, and an adventure... if you're talking about novels, the Haunted Lands Trilogy was the first and a few others released after it, Swordmage coming to mind most readily, but not much else out there yet as far as I'm aware though.

-Sourcebooks? There is the 4e FRCS, the 4e Player's Guide, and a Forgotten Realms adventure. That's all there will be, although there will be online DDI article support.

-Novels? Well, nothing, technically, is "official" 4e stuff right now, as the 4e Forgotten Realms have not debuted.

Ok, sorry, let me rephrase it. I saw you guys talking about all the changes and was wondering what novels they were in.

-None, right now, for the most part. There are a few novels that explain/allude to the reasons why things are a certain way in the 4e Forgotten Realms (Stardeep, Swordmage, Ascendancy of the Last, The Orc King), but for the most part, all of this information is coming from Rich Baker in his Ask-the-Author thread, and from the Countdown to the Realms articles in WotC's online DRAGON magazine.

Swordmage is "official" 4e. Disregard Karsus on this one, as he has definitions all his own when it comes to what applies to where.

-When does Swordmage take place?

in 1479 DR

in 1479 DR

This is the correct date for Swordmage. It was the first offical novel written in the new realms, making it the first source for lore in the new realms

Also, as Stig mentioned, The Haunted Lands trilogy would be good for you to read. It goes Pre-, Present, and Post- the Year of Blue Fire.

-Alright. Why did I think it took place in 1385 DR?

-Alright. Why did I think it took place in 1385 DR?

Probably due to that debate us two had concerning the "official" year of the current Realms. I was under the assumption that since Undead takes place in that year, the timeline had moved forward. You disagreed and said the actual year was 1375, because Dragon said so.

Either way, its too bad you weren't left to that conclusion so you would unwittingly read Swordmage at some point. ;)

-AGHotR, not DRAGON Magazine.

-Nope, never reading it. I don't buy every Forgotten Realms book, just because.

-Yeah, same here. I stopped when I was like, "Wait a minute...These aren't even good, these books." A lot of the secondary and tertiary books in the one-shot "Classes" series'.

My apologies. I found it to be a worthless debate, therefore containing worthless facts, in which I saw no reason to recall such facts. ;)

If you say so.

And you would have bought it, had not the facts been known.

-Not until it was released in softcover, anyway.

Granted, at that time I was still getting a feel for things around here. I bowed to the lord when I believed his judgment was sound. As for now....

[Insert Demeaning Name Calling Here]

FR Happy Day? Come on!

Really, now.

It was simply my attempt to get Merrik to drop the lawyer and become human again.

Sorry, people—there is no FR Happy Day. Move along now. Move along…. IMAGE(http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/198_policeman.gif)

-It's too much of a coincidence, given that he had plenty of participation here. I can't send him an e-mail, like I did KtM, because he set up his account to not allow others to know his e-mail address.

-Anyway, let's get back to those 4e books.
