Our Canadian friends and con goers won't be the only ones with a shiny new FRCG. My copy shipped today so I should have it on Monday unless UPS loses a truck or something (stop wishing for that...I know someone out there is ).

I didn't get a chance to check one out at Gencon but there were plenty of them floating around (maybe because people just want a new "shiny" but I'm sure some of them are curious about the changes).

Maybe they all bought them the first day...

so they could return them the next. :D

I can't wait 'till Borders gets there's in - I've got a hot date with a cup of joe and a table for about four hours.

I would never get something from UPS that fast. If it shipped today, I'm looking at Wednesday at the earliest. That is if I purchased a FRCG and it so happened to ship today.

The Amazon shipping center is in MO so it's pretty close (only 3 hours to St Louis from here) to our local hub (only an hour away). If they can't make it here over the weekend, we've got issues :D

I have read it and frankly, its not anywhere nears as good as the 3rd edition version. Forgetting the radical changes for a moment, they do a bad job describing nations, the gods get barely a mention, only the greaters get a blurb and its borderline useless for most, the print is much larger than the 3e version thus a significantly less amount of material is covered, and the power groups are powerly done w/o any good ones being discussed at all

I've only seen the excerpts (several of which I just couldn't make it through -they were really un-readable to me), so I can't fully judge, but since I'm told the excerpts were a good cross-sampling from the book, I imagine I will agree with Merrik when I do have it in my hands.

Thats not a bad idea...

I just can't seem to bring myself to ordering anything from a bunch of masculine, one-breasted women who live on an island....

Are the Regional benefits in the FRCG? Or will that be in the Player's Guide?

-I believe that this information is going to be in the Player's Guide.

Anything that is designed for the PC will be in the FR Players Guide, other than the summary description of the Greater Gods and the tables of the FR deities, and background information on the various regions and threats.

-Presumably, it will not be more than the lore in the FRCG. The FRCG is designed with the DM in mind, meaning that there should be more information in that book than in the player book. Players only need so much background information to make characters. DMs need more to run games.

Normally I'd agree with you but with the 4e PHB and DMG, there seemed to be more fluff in the PHB then the DMG. Maybe they will continue with that trend?

considering we know the book has paragon paths, epci destinies, feat, a new class, a new multi-class option, etc etc

It seems like the PG will be more crunch than the Campaign book

Yes I agree, but that's not really the whole question. I think for me, the issue is how much fluff WILL it have it it. I don't expect it to have more fluff then the campaign guide but I do think it could have a fair amount based on how they did the 4e PHB and DMG. I also thing the line in the description "The Forgotten Realms Player’s Guide presents this changed world from the point of view of the adventurers exploring it" may hint that it will be a fair amount of fluff to go with the crunch.

From the July and Beyond Previews section comes this:

Races: Information on playing races from the 4th Edition Player’s Handbook in the Realms . . . plus new races added to the list.

Classes: An entirely new class and new multiclass-only class (available to characters who have a spellscar, a mark that is the corroded echo of spellfire twisted by the disaster that was the Spellplague), as well as new paragon paths and an epic destiny.

Backgrounds: Regional benefits for characters.

Feats: New class and multiclass feats, plus Channel Divinity and racial feats.

Rituals: New rituals between levels 1-30.

Almanac: Quite a bit of setting information, on everything from lore, currency, cosmology, to information on the Spellplague

Heh yep I've got mine shipped too. I already read some of the changes, which are strange to me. But I haven't played FR in years, hopefully this'll be a new kick for the group.

08/26: The Swordmage (including sample powers)

What kind of fluff do you think it will cover?

Don't know... Hopefully more information about the Genasi Realms, More info about the Elves/Eladrin and how the fluff can tie into the crunch of these races in 4e? Maybe more information on the spellplague since it relates directly to the Spellscars (which I expect to be a feat)? Maybe some player organizations? More info about the churches of each deity? More information about the Dragonborn realm? I think they'll expand on Tieflings and how they fit into the settings, etc...

Since I haven't got my FRCG (it's arriving tomorrow ) I can't really point out what areas I think they may have left for expanding on.

Kind of think how the 3.0 Realms FRCS and the Races of Faerun had info. The Races book had a fair amount of fluff included in it.

Just a thought.

-I don't think so. As I said, in order to run a game, the DM has to know a lot of things- more than the players need to. As such, it would make sense for more total lore included in the book for DMs than the book for players.

I agree, but I think that there will be a significant amount of fluff in the Player's Guide. I guess that was what I was saying, it just didn't come across well.

-Significant, sure. Players have to know about the world, or they'll make Tauric Yeti Shugenja from Calimshan, trained by the Harpers.

Now that's just silly, everyone knows that Tauric Yeti Shugenja from Calimshan are all trained by the War Wizards of Cormyr and shipped out to Calimshan.

-Whoops. You're right. The Harpers train the Gelatinous Banite Bard Drowliches, and then send them off to Halruaa.
