4E Player and the Realms

I'm a 4E convert. Personally, one reason I'm on board with the "new" realms is because I'm a 4E player/DM now, and I'm not really interested in going back. That being said, the books are going to be written for the system I play, and using them will require less conversion than using the old books. The FR Players Guide will give me ready made 4E crunch from somebody who designs games better than I do.

I'm a new Realms player so I have almost nothing invested in the "old realms" and that has a lot to do with it as well I admit.

I am very disenchanted with the 4e realms, but I too will get the Players Guide a I like the 4e system. To me, conversion of the drow and genasi, the new Swordmage, new paragon paths specific to the FR are intriguing to me

No offense, but you're starting to sound like an undercover WoTC member. You've made two threads to tell everyone how you love the new Realms, didn't like the old Realms, and will now be playing the 4e Version. No questions attached, just a constant reiteration of the same facts. EVERYWHERE. :P

So, if constant reiteration of the same statement makes him a possible WotC spy, then what does that make the die-hard Realms fans that do the exact same thing in most threads, except laced with insults?

I begin a game tonight that I will be using FR as a setting for. I'm thinking I'm going to add this forum to my usual haunts on the WotC boards. I'm just stating my opinion, which if I continue here will continue and most likely be consistent.

It makes them broken records if they're not changing what they're saying to add to the thread. My point here was more that he created a thread, saying essentially this. and once it hit two pages, made a second one repeating himself. It was a joke regardless, but based on an observation of something silly IMO.

Feel free to take a crack at the OP of a thread that posts "I hate the 4e realms and will never play in it" and then make another thread that says "I will never play in the 4E Realms because i hate it". I don't think two threads are needed to say the exact same thing :P.

Mix it up at least. We now all know you like it. Start threads on aspects and why, or ask questions of the other fans. Don't start a thread simply to make a statement.

I'm with thecasualoblivion that it does look decent and I too posted elsewhere I liked the 4E Realm book and stayed away from anything Realms related 3E or before. So while I can't compare it faults or merits in comparison to previous versions I can say I like the level of information given to me in this new book. It detailed enough that it let's me run with whatever I want and sparce enough I don't have to contend with fighting with player's over the history of the realms. All and all as a stand alone product it works for someone who had no interest in the Realms beforehand and I likely pickup that new module coming out and see what my group thinks of the setting.

I'm eagerly awaiting my own FRCG (and PHB). I own somewhere between 90-95% of all gaming supplements (& stupid number of novels) done for FR over all editions and have enjoyed reading all of them but have only ever run one long term campaign in the realms (Night in the Underdark).

I personally liken 4E FR to Ron Moore's BSG, a reimagining. That doesn't necessarily make it any worse in my mind but gives me a new, but familiar story to enjoy and has me eager to run my second FR campaign.

So from my POV 4E FR is a big win, it has a long term DM returning to the Realms as his setting of choice

-Thats a good personal example. To Some people the Realms have been a stumbling block to them. It's all a matter of perspective. I started playing D&D in the Realms in 1996 when I was stationed in Korea. I never had a problem with the lore, Gilbert who was the DM of that crazy little group had a good grasp on the setting and started me on my way. I personally think that we as Realms Fans should be better teacher's of the setting, yet accept that not everybody will love or like the Realms as we like them. And accept the fact that people will want to change things as they see fit in their games.

This I call pragmatism. In a good way. You seem to see the setting in the same way as I do. Just as an usable and not overblown aid for your roleplaying games. The adventure and the PCs are the center. The FR setting is just an useful and fluffy add-on, nothing more.

I'm fairly certain that ALL the new posters around here evangelizing the glory of 4e are WotC employees who don't want to be looking for work next year. ;)

I think they even hired 'ringers' to buy up 4e books from them at GenCon, just so they wouldn't be embarrassed. I heard from someone they saw lots of people walking around with stacks of the 4e books at the con.

I want to be excited about running a game in the forgotten realms. When I pop on this forum, it feels like 80% of the posts are how 4e has killed the Realms and is now violating the rotting corpse.

Seriously, don’t discourage the man. Without him, I’d likely avoid the forum entirely.

You say that like it's a bad thing!

:P

Admit it, you had that coming.

It's nice to see so much hijacking in this thread... can we get back to the subject at hand and forgo the hating please, thanks.

OP; It is, contrary to minority belief here on the boards, okay to like the 4e version of the Realms. Please feel free to ask, comment and address the people on these boards. Not all of us are here to ***** and whine.

Yeesh, don't be all poopy about Kermit the Frog. Have a little community fun, and I get accused of "***** and whine".

Actually i would appreciate it if you did that, 4th edition lured me back to the game and my love of the Realms lured me to these forums but I am starting to get tired of the pettiness and immature attitude and consider it a distraction. Fine I understand some are upset but this garbage is going on in just about every thread and it makes me question whether or not this is a community i wish to be a part of.

While i understand and respect their right express there dislike in the new product they have no right to overide darn near every thread like they are.

Can anyone recommend some good forums where the disgruntled are at least mature enough not hihjack every damn thread?

To the original poster:

Is there any location in particular that screams at you: "Oh yeah! I have to start them here." ?

Um...we a bunch of 'tards. Want intelligence? Visit another forum. I mean, we love intelligence around here, but it is simply second priority.

Either way--welcome. Hope you stick. :D
