| #1The_SilverswordMar 28, 2011 8:18:59 | OK so Ive been sending the characters around to various locations around the Realms to recover pieces of this ancient book of ultimate evil, and last gaming session I needed a location for the next piece and for whatever reason I pulled Procampur out of my ***. Looking at the 4e Realms map I see that Procampur is still around, which is good, but still I guess exploring a ruined city looking for a piece of this artifact woulda worked out too. But anyway Im not finding any information on the current Procampur, so should I just assume that its pretty much the same? Has it gotten bigger? smaller? Is it still a port city? Or has the shifting of the Sea of Fallen Stars changed that? Anybody got any news on Procampur post Spellplague? Perhaps from one of the novels Ive missed? Has anybody used Procampur in a home campaign who has some ideas theyd be willing to share? Perhaps a LFR adventure or 2 that may feature Procampur? Anybody got anything? |
| #2StiggerMar 28, 2011 8:43:21 | It wasn't an often used site that I'm aware of, even in past editions... only thing I can suggest is looking at some of the older material and making educated guesses as to how it weathered things in the last century. The Living City of Raven's Bluff had some material on it I think, as did Forgotten Realms Adventures, but I can't say I can recall many other sources beyond the campaign guides. Pity there was never a Volo's Guide to the Vast, it was a book I was hoping to see in print at some point. Don't even think one was ever planned... though maybe one was mentioned as being in the library in Highmoon... maybe in the Leaves of Learning web enhancement from 3e. |
| #3The_SilverswordMar 28, 2011 8:58:31 | Well looking at the map, very closely, it looks as if the city is still on the water, so I guess the docks are still open. Of course the 4e map is full of inconsistencies, so who knows really? |
| #4AndrekanMar 29, 2011 8:15:08 | There is the information listed in Forgotten Realms Campaign Guild Pg.172 that briefly touches on the port cities keeping pace with the retreating water levels building new dock facilities. The average drop was nearly 50 feet. It also mentions older seaside trade cities contain an "old wharf" portion of town, no longer useful except as cheap real estate, as well as the more recently constructed working ports. You may want to check changes that occured in Impiltur and Vesperin, as these neighboring land areas may have had similar changes that might have affected Procampur. You might want to check Candlekeep for any Procampur references... |
| #5StiggerMar 29, 2011 13:07:03 | I'm pretty sure that Procampur did have an Enclave... don't recall where I read that though, might have been a small line in Unapproachable East for 3e. |
| #6The_SilverswordMar 31, 2011 2:32:57 | Yes, ther was/is a Thayan Enclave in Procampur, from the listing of known Enclaves in the Lords of Darkness 3e Realms sourcebook. Other cities included, but not limited to: Athkatala, Baldur's Gate, Calaunt, Calimport, Cimbar, Hillsfar, Hlath, Hlondeth, Innarlith, Iriaebor, Marsember, Messemprar, Mulmaster, Raven's Bluff, Saerloon, Scaredale, Scournubel, Soorenar, Telflamm, Waterdeep, Westgate, and Yhaunn. These were major enclaves, with at least 50 Thayans, other cities might of had just one shop or alowed a group of Thayans to come in once a month or what ever to see their wares. So that works out, the characters have been unknowingly collecting these pieces for Szass Tam, so that works out to have an Enclave there, but whos side would these Red Wizards be on? And theres the question of exactly where at in Procampur was the Enclave? IM guessing it was probably in the Merchant District, or perhaps was built outside the city walls? hmmmmm... And thanx Stigger and Andrekan, your suggestions are most helpful, keep them coming! |
| #7The_SilverswordMar 31, 2011 3:32:02 | OK heres a map I done up of Procampur, ok so I didnt really do it, I just took it from the Interactive Atlas and colored it, but that took me some time to do so I should get some credit for it, right?![]() Each section has different colored roofs, so I color coded it. The port is considered outside of the city so different activites and business dealings can be performed there, there is no rule on what color the roofs have to be here so they can be of any color, I just left it the default color on the map, but the roofs here are probably all different colors. District of the Poor has gray slate roofs the Sea District has blue roofs The Service DIstrict Yellow The Nobles District Silver Castle District White, except for the High Court and Palace which are roofed in gold, The map wasnt clear on which exaclty building was which so I just took an educated guess. Temple district Shiny black roofs Merchant District seagreen, I added in dark red for the Thayan Enclave, it would make sense to me to have it in the Merchant section, and I cant find anything that says one way or another. and the Adventurers district- red Not sure how or if I should change it up for 4e. The Docks could be coming out more as Andrekan pointed out, that avenue that runs through the middle of town is pretty darn wide, some buildings could have popped up in there, and of course there could always be more structures built outside the city walls. |
| #8The_SilverswordApr 14, 2011 7:55:44 | OK so after reading up on Procampur in the Forgotten Realms Adventures book, I came across this: Who Rules: The Thultyrl, a hereditary overlord, currently Rendeth of the Royal Blood (NG hm F11) Who Really Rules: The Hamayarch, mage-adviser to the Thultyrl. This office is traditionally filled by a wizard weaker than the ruler, and intensely loyal. At present, it is secretly held by an evil wizard who uses amulets and spells to conceal his true alignment and level. Purporting to be Alamondh (NG hm W8), he is really Carthoun Misintle (NE hm W16). Carthoun has quietly collected many magical items and created some undead servants to do his bidding (such as attacking all who pry too closely into his activities). He plans to achieve lichdom, and to eventually rule Procampur by slaying the unsuspecting Rendeth and taking his place, magically altered to resemble the Thultyrl. He dare not do this until Rendeth marries and conceives an heir with the distinctive copper-hued Thultyrl hair, sharp chin and gray green eyes, or he will be discovered. |

| #10StiggerApr 14, 2011 10:26:22 | One of the few plot hooks we were given that wasn't fleshed out for us in a novel I think... ![]() |
| #11The_SilverswordApr 15, 2011 12:35:39 | Well after surfing around on the web looking for anything related to Procampur ive found out that they put out a Procampur expansion for Ravens Bluff the living city. Anybody know anything about this? Id never heard of it, but its got me very curious as to whats in there. Anybody know anything? |
| #12Keith53Apr 15, 2011 15:55:34 | I probably have a copy in my basement. I will try to look around this weekend. I think I worked on the text on the temples in Procampur. Keith |
| #13The_SilverswordApr 16, 2011 12:22:34 | Well I ordered it, I paid way too much money for it, appreantly its some kinda rare collectors item now, hopefully the wife wont find out how much I paid for it, she'll kill me!! So Keith if you do have a copy, id be hangin on to that, its worth some serious dough, I dont want to say how much I actually paid for it, but it was quite a bit considering its only 12 pages, It better be chockful of good stuff, but if you worked on the Temple section, im sure itll have some good stuff in there. |
| #14The_SilverswordApr 18, 2011 7:28:54 | Well after really comparing the 3e and 4e maps, it looks like Procampur has moved down the coast. They must have expierenced plaguedrift? ![]() ![]() so I guess as Andrekan pointed out the docks probably would be altered, looks like alot. The docks used to be on the west side of the city, but lookin at the 4e map it looks as if it would now be on the southside. |
| #15The_SilverswordJun 18, 2011 1:54:02 | Some new info on Procampur, well sorta. In Ed's recent Eye on the Realms article: Jalander's Dodge, Ed talks about upkeep of cities and towns, eventually things like city walls and sewers need to be repaired, after all its been like a hundred years since the Spellplague, so all these towns and cities are that much older, so wide spread repairs are needed, this of course brings on higher taxes. IN the article Ed gives a listing of areas in the Realms that have raised taxes, on wine even. And Procampur is listed among them, so I guess if youre headed to Procampur you might be payin a little extra for your wine. "In Cormyr, Sembia, and the independent cities of Ankhapur, Baldur’s Gate, Milvarune, and Procampur, stiff new import duties have been imposed on wines and spirits. In some cases, these duties amount to a silver piece per bottle, 2 sp per handkeg, and 4 gp for a cask; in others, they are a measure of total cargo cost and can run as high as 20 percent." Ed also talks about the roouddan, a turnip like vegetable known in the Realms as the “red turnip of Proskur.” Theyre plentiful all around the Sea of Fallen Stars, so they would probably be plentiful in Procampur, probably found in ales and stews in most of the inns in Procampur and all around the Sea of Fallen Stars as well. "All around the Sea of Fallen Stars, a turniplike vegetable called the roouddan is a staple of peasant fare, a thickener in stews, and a base for slop mashes fed to livestock (not to mention an ingredient in fiery small beers when allowed to ferment). The vegetable keeps long and well when guarded from heat and sun, so it can last the winter stored in a frigid cellar, buried in a stableyard, or kept in a barn bin covered with straw. It is regarded as a mainstay food by garrisons, larder-keepers, and sailors because it resists rot and is edible raw. For someone who has a sharp knife to slice its tough outer skin and a way to season its rather flavorless flesh, a roouddan makes a portable meal. For all these reasons, great amounts of the vegetable are imported into coastal places around the Inner Sea." |
| #16The_SilverswordJun 26, 2011 21:21:55 | Heh, most of my Procampur google results lead me back to this thread, haha! But I did manage to find this listing of military medals. Not sure how "official" it would be but still interesting, I see no reason not to use them, I'll probably work some in NPC descriptions and what not, and who knows maybe one of the PCs will earn one. MINOR The Stone Shovel: Ressembles a miniature shovel ,made of Iron . It is given for 2 years long service to those with perfect records . The Steel Shield : Saving the life of a citizen of Procampur at great personal risk , often awarded post-humously . It is a Iron shield with the symbol of the city in it's center . The Granite Gravel: Attribuated only to the Proctors ,it is given for 2 years long service in the Proctors to those with a perfect record . A miniature gavel made of bronze . It is given to those that save the life of the thultyrl . The Emerald Claw : A miniature eagle claw made of Emerald . Given to those that directly save the city . Some other little tidbits ive picked up, My colored map is wrong, Ive learned from THO over on Candlekeep the the Red Wizard Enclave was not shoehorned into the city but rather more like an added on district, so I'll have to change that. Also learned that garnets are plentiful in Procampur. Ive known that Procampur was known for its jewlers and gemcutters, so its nice to know what sort of gem these people are commonly working with. Its little tid bits like these that really make a place come to life, ya know? |
