4e rashemi campaign (input appreciated)

I'm working on a 4e campaign and would like some input. The story revolves around two Rashemi warriors recently admitted to a Berserker Lodge - one is a two-weapon ranger, the other is a heavy weapon fighter. It takes place before the spellplague (or could be after, if the basic idea behind my campaign fits). I'm pretty new at DM'ing and they are new players.

On idea I'm working on involves the Berserker Lodges. Both the PC and NPC lodges win prestige and/or perks by carrying out missions for village/town leaders, the Iron lord, the Wychlaram, or even the Durthan. I want to make up with a perks/prestige system that involves some decision making on behalf of the players. Sort of a "If we do this for the Iron Lord, our lodge benefits." versus "If we do this for the Durthan, our lodge loses prestige but we (the PCs) benefit". So far I've come up with assigning prestige points to lodges that will grant some material benefits or temporary buffs to PC and NPC warriors.

To (hopefully) make this more player-involved, they can choose one mission out of two. Later on, they hear gossip about how an NPC lodge fared on the other mission, which may lead to further plot hooks.

Another idea is having a map of Rashemen that expands in detail as the players increase in levels. They begin with a map that details the "commonly known" areas, and reveal more of the map as they progress though the stories. As they explore the land and interact with the local flavor they slowly become involved with the Thayvian, Nar or Tuigan conflicts. Hopefully, they learn things about their travels that can help them defeat these threats.

As for "local flavor" I've been looking at sources on this site, Unapproachable East, 3e FRCS, heck, even the NWN2 walkthroughs. However, I'd be glad to receive rashemi adventure ideas from you fine folks . Ideas or examples on the perks/prestige system are more than welcome.

-Sounds interesting. Just make sure, though, that your players can handle a situation where the Lodge benefiting might mean them "losing", and them benefiting might mean the Lodge "losing".

Apparently, they weren't hit too hard, although there are more fey around than before.

-Nothing, really. The Hathran wiped out the Durthran, and the Fey spirits are a lot more active, but other than that, it's the same.

-I like Rasheman, too. It's probably in my top 5 favorite places in the setting.

-Axing the Durthran is a bit silly, considering they were introduced in 3e, but...Whatever.

-There's another plothook, to use in a Rashemi campaign: The Durthran reforming themselves.

-I dont like how the Durthran were killed off in the 4E FRCG. So maybe have them as more of a shadow element in Rashemen. Also didn't the Eldreth Veluthra have a present in some forest there? :D

-The Durthran will be in my Realms.

-You could also work on the Feywild angle with Rashemen. A threat is arising out of the Feywild. Maybe the Durthran's fled there!

Were the Durthan ever really an organization? I got the impression that they weren't tightly tied with each other like the Hathran were.

In any case, I can't see why there couldn't be more durthan, unless there are no "dark" spirits in Rashemen (which I doubt).

-Not particularly, no.

-They were basically like the Hathran, except that they wanted to be proactive in fighting the enemies of Rasheman, whereas the Hathran were reactive.

they were supposedly building their own citadel in a Rashemi forest

-Yes. Page 79 and 80 Champions of Ruin. They are in the Urlingwood in Rashemen. It is their 'Eastern Front'. :P It is where they send their malcontents and miscreants and fanatics. ;)

-Right. Would you consider these people Eldreth Veluuthra members? Or would you just consider them crazies? :P

-We are talking about the EV again. I think they are all crazies. Plus it is in their write up so........:P

-Very true. Some are much more crazy than others. Though, I wouldn't say they were all crazy. Having a racial hatred against Humans isn't something that's crazy.

Hello Rabitslayer,

I like your map idea. That sounds pretty fun, as does the perks/prestige system.

Do you think your players would enjoy any sort of physical skills/skills challenge encounters?

Something where one lodge faces off against another in contests of feats of strength, endurance and the testing of one’s bravery and courage?

Just some ideas...

Nice! Something like Adventure Racing: a tenday cross-country race in harsh weather where you score points by completing certain tasks while trying to get to the goal as quickly as possible.

About the Eldreth Veluuthra: while I'm not sure about including them as antagonists per se, I do think an elf Bad Guy with that background sounds very cool.

-Well, they're a dime a dozen, so it shouldn't be that "out there" to make one up with such a background.

By the way, don't count on any real info on rasheman in the 4e book

Pity, I guess as long as they mention what regional feats apply I'll be ok. Speaking of which; there is a feat called Aftersight and the flavor text says "you have a trace of The Sight" would there be a feat where you have more than a trace? I know the lore mentions that those with The Sight become magic users in some form or another. What about someone who is, say, a fighter and the has The Sight?

I don't mind if the feat's a little unbalanced, since I only have two players. I'm thinking maybe a bonus to perception, no penalties to passive perception, heck maybe that Aftersight Bonus as well? (maybe thats too powerful?)

(Makes a Will save to supress the temptation of comparing this with a certain sci-fi from a galaxy far, far away)

As for sources, Lost Empires mentions the Raumathar Empire having great artificers and how the Rashemi Witches talk about them in cautionary tales. I can just picture a witch giving cryptic warnings to the players about so-and-so dungeon full mechanical traps and clockwork monsters.

(Fails a Will save: Hmm... I feel like watching Hellboy 2 all of a sudden)

-That'll probably be in the Player's Guide.

-Nothing. Fyodor, protagonist of the Starlight and Shadows trilogy, was a Rashemi Berserker who had the gift, and continued to be a Berserker all throughout the trilogy.

I don't recall any of that. Could be wrong? Its just about 2 or 3 paragraphs of what the characters would based on history and streetwise checks, some sites, and a couple of adventure points. Not much info really at all
