[4e] Shifters as Mongrelmen?

Jul 16, 2008 8:22:33 So I was wondering how well Shifters would fit in the niche (or even retconing them to become) mongrelmen? With there being no indication we'll get Mongrelmen in a future MM, do you think Shifters would fit the similar role well?

I know very little about Mongrelmen. Its limited to The Savage Frontier, The North and this homebrew page (I assume its homebrew).

Right. They just seem similar to me in that they both fit the "wild folk" category.

Huh. Well with the above sources in mind some Mongrelmen were migrating to the High Forest before they suddenly disappeared. The enworld page says that free mongrelmen prefer rural areas (similar to Shifters).

Jul 16, 2008 10:36:12 -Yeah, Mongrelmen using Shifter stats really wouldn't be a good fit. Mongrelmen don't have the lycanthroping changing abilities, nor are they lycanthropes, nor do they have the "blood" of a specific animal (or whatever) in them, like Shifters.

-The best fit would probably be just giving them the stats of simple Humans. Mechanically, they never really had any special benefits, because of their heritage. That was just what made them outcasts, and all ugly and stuff.
