4e Spirit Folk?

I'm about to start a campaign in Rashemen and one of my players wants to make a spirit folk character. After looking at the sources, I found that both mountain and water spirit folk seemed very powerful and yet very limited.

We talked about making up something like a "forest" spirit folk, with racial features that aren't so limiting. Problem is, aside from mixing up powers and abilities from the other 4e races, I have no idea what powers to make up. Any suggestions?

thanx in advance

For right now, you might want to take a look at the Genasi stats. in other words, use a Water or Earth Genasi stats/power and use the flavor text from a Spirit Folk.

Just a thought.

Genasi were shown in the RPGA's FR char gen stuff. available to everyone, not just RPGA peeps.

Perhaps looking also at Eladrins and Fey monsters for inspiration...

A related personal theory, based much on White Wolf's Changeling line; the youkai beings of myths (and game equivalents) are 'oriental feys'. And if spirit folks are youkai (or 'hanyou')...

-I assume that you have Oriental Adventures, yes? Substitute Bamboo for 'Forest', and there you go. And then, of course translate into 4e.

DAMN YOU, Karsus...

leave the OA questons for me.

I was going to say the exact same thing...

;) :P

Forest/Bamboo would be the hardest, since they were never in 3.5 (I don't think). Sea and River Spirit Folk can both just get Water Genasi mechanics (with perhaps a seperate flavorful Background Feat). Mountain Spirit Folk translate easily into earth Genasi.

Fire is out of the question, and Air isn't really a good match for bambooo/Forest - I think you'd have to do what LK says and adapt the 3e Bamboo Spirit Folk from OA to 4e rules.

I would give it a go, but I'm still a complete novice when it comes to 4e rules.

After looking at the write-ups of all the Spirit-folk from in UE and OA, I realize I made a mistake - Mountian Spirit Folk would make good Air Genasi, and Bamboo (forest) Sprit-folk are excellent as Earth Genasi!

Bamboo spirit folk have these additional characteristics.
* +2 racial bonus on Wilderness Lore checks .
* +4 racial bonus on Hide checks when in woods or forest.
* Trackless Step : Bamboo spirit folk leave no trail in natural surroundings and cannot be tracked.
* +2 racial bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like effects with the words "earth," "rock," "stone," or "wood" in the name of the effect, shugenja spells of the earth element, and wu jen spells connected to earth or wood.
* Once per day a bamboo spirit folk can use speak with animals to speak with any animal . This ability is innate to bamboo spirit folk . It has a duration of 1 minute (the spirit folk is considered a 1st-level caster when using this ability, regardless of actual level) . See the speak with animals spell description in the Player's Handbook.

The Mountain Spirit-folk mechanics all relate to Air and Birds. You can just use the above as-is, or give them the stat differences for an Earth Genasi and add the above as a Background.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. These examples are all good and I'll talk them over with the player.

There was also another option suggested elsewhere: Since the Rashemi telthors are fey, the human/telthor offspring could be feytouched. That sounds a bit like a variant half-elf, or half eladrin if you go by 4e. Any thoughts on this?
