I found three CttR articles in Dragon #362. Is that all of them so far? People sound a lot more informed then I feel after just reading those three (plus I've also read Swordmage). Is there another major source where people are getting info on 4e Realms from?

Btw, here's a link to the articles in case anyone needs. Took me forever to find them! :P http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drtoc/362

A bit along those lines, I've heard that Storm of Zehir the next Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion, is going to deal a bit with the transition into the 4th Edition realms...though that expansion won't be out until after the core books. Still, from the press release it sounds like a lot of fun.

Lemme see if I can find the press release....here it is (emphasis added):

LYON, FRANCE – 11 June 2008 – Atari, Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), announced today that Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir is currently in production. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, one of the premier independent development studios in the world, the second expansion to Neverwinter Nights 2 will deliver an engrossing D&D® experience in the tradition of the Neverwinter Nights franchise and is scheduled for worldwide launch Q4 2008.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir hearkens back to the days of the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale franchises by including full party customization, dungeon crawling, and free exploration of a non-linear game world via an Overland Map. The gripping storyline foreshadows the events that will take place in the Forgotten Realms with the coming of release this June of the Fourth Edition of Dngeons & Dragons® Roleplaying Game.

In the aftermath of the defeat of the King of Shadows, the Sword Coast is in the midst of an uneasy economic recovery. Trade syndicates have sprung up to exploit the post-war confusion for their own ends. The player’s party will wade into this uncertain environment; in order to increase their own fortunes, they can either ally with a syndicate to create a trade empire, or cut their own path through Faerûn by preying upon caravans and selling the goods on the black market. As they attempt to extend their influence, players will become aware of a new faction working behind the scenes: the evil, shapeshifting, serpentine Yuan-Ti.

In addition to trading and economic manipulation, the Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Overland Map allows players to explore the Chultan Peninsula and Sword Coast in a non-linear manner never before seen in any of the Neverwinter Nights games. Exploration will take players from well-known locations, like Neverwinter and Crossroad Keep, to more exotic areas, such as the xenophobic jungle nation of Samarach. Groups of highwaymen and monsters populate the Overland Map and the farther from civilization the player roams, the more difficult the encounters become. The 15-hour campaign in Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir is also packed with new classes, spells, creatures, and playable races.

Fans of the compelling multiplayer features of Neverwinter Nights 2 will also be able to take advantage of new improvements to the multiplayer experience, while modders will be able to take advantage of the power and flexibility of the Overland Map and Trading System features along with other world-building enhancements.

Game Features:

· Travel the Sword Coast and Samarach using the open ended exploration of the new Overland Map. Use skills like Spot and Survival while on the Overland Map to avoid ambushes and even find hidden locales and lost artifacts.

· Create your own full party of adventurers. Devastate your foes with a squad of fireball-flinging Sorcerers, form a solid wall of steel with a party of Fighters, or strike the perfect balance in your party by spreading out the classes you choose for your characters.

· Improved party gameplay including streamlined party conversations, a new Teamwork Benefit System, and powerful party feats.

· The world's economy reacts to your adventures and choices. And, through trading and quests, you can expand your merchant company into a massive trading empire.

More information about Neverwinter Nights 2 can be found at http://www.nwn2.com.

Doesn't really give any details other than that. Though the name Zehir itself is the name of a 4e core God. According to my DMG Guide sitting next to me Zehir is "the evil god of darkness, poison, and assassins. Snakes are his favored creation, and the yaun-ti revere him above all other gods..." I don't remember a Zehir in the current realms, so perhaps he's taking over as the head God of the Yuan-ti and the game will deal with that?

-Don't know. But, in the Icewind Dale games, you could make a party of up to six, using all races/classes. It sacrificed character development, but, overall, I think that made the game more enjoyable for me.

I'm aware. I played that and Baldur's Gate with a passion. Loved creating my own parties, too.

The only reason I haven't picked up NWN2 already is because its a little too powerful for my laptop and I want to upgrade before going out and buying it. From the game description, the mechanics of Icewind Dale are not going to be resurrected. It is still a single player game with multiplayer possibility. Thus, creating "your party" involves you creating one character and joining others online to create a party.

Sad, I know.

Hey,

I read the press release by doing a search, but thanks anyway.

By the way, according to Brian R. James over on Candlekeep, Zehir is not a part of the 4E Realms pantheon, so the reference to him might be a mistake (not that any of the NWN games were ever perfectly in step with canon lore).

Well, all we pretty much have to do is ask someone who is playing or has installed NWN2 on their machine. It would be the same game engine used.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir is simply an add on. True, it can change all the programming already in place, but its not likely. It's like adding the Charater Expansion Pack in NWN1. Nothing special.

Interesting. I've never known the NWN games to include dieties that aren't part of the pantheon though. In addition I thought that Atari and their developers had to get some level of approval from WoTC.

We'll see though. Perhaps that Zehir is unrelated to the Zehir in the core. Maybe it's not a diety, but something else? I guess we'll just have to wait.

Of course (Mask of the Betrayer, especially, seems to have some timeline discrepencies). But importing a non-Faerunian god into the realms seems a bit extreme, even given past discrepencies.
