| #1Mr_MiscellanyJan 09, 2012 11:15:59 | Howdy All, Just a heads up that Trevor has announced all talk about 5E should be done on the Future Releases forum. 18Delta has already started a thread there about 5E and what it means for the Realms in that forum. Now's the time to let your voice be heard. Want them to undo the Spellplague? Tell WotC in that thread. Like the Spellplague and want the timeline left alone? Tell them there too. Other opinions? Write them down and post them to Delta's thread. I imagine they'll open up conversation to the other forums once more concrete details are announced. |

Totally agree here. I am already not playing the 4th edition. Honestly don't like anything about it. Especially the power system. Hopefully they will win me over, but.... |
| #4SirUrzaJan 23, 2012 12:51:39 | Looks like they may already be undoing spell plague.. www.amazon.com/Greenwood-Presents-Elmins... |
| #5sfdragonJan 23, 2012 13:04:09 | if that is his works.... and by that I mean from his table, that will be NO TOT as well...... |
| #6Mr_MiscellanyJan 23, 2012 16:44:38 | SirUrza, thanks for the link! BTW, you should be awarded like a 10,000 post count. I can't believe yours was reset to 67. Yeesh. |
| #7SirUrzaJan 24, 2012 0:31:53 | SirUrza, thanks for the link! I don't think it was reset, I honestly don' think I have that many posts on the official forums. I haven't been a fan of what WOTC did to 4e, the Realms... or even magic! (Though I stopped playing magic long before D&D and the Realms.) Here's hoping spellplague gets undone. It's pretty simple too. During the AD&D age, we explained a lot of things away as "Mystra doesn't let us." Even though they were system limitation and weren't Realms specific, like level 9 spells being max and time travel not letting you change anything. It had nothing to do with lore, we just looked for an explaination on why not in Realms when it's happening over there (like time travel changing the future in Dragonlance) and that was the fall back excuse. So in that tradition, Mystra is dead. There's no god of magic telling me what we can and can't do with magic. We're going back to 1385 and saving Mystra (preferably in a level 1-30 super adventure to kick of 5e but I doubt that'll actually happen.) If it doesn't, well Golarion has been very very good to me since I moved there. |
| #8DiffanJan 25, 2012 9:08:01 | I hope they find a way where people who love the Realms (all aspects) can find some good lore and run adventures using D&Dnext regardless of Era. If they go along the route of detailing a specific area and then giving in-depth descriptions about that area in ALL the times then I'm all for it. Make me want to play in 1374 DR again. Make me want to try an Age of Magic in high Netheril campaign. And still support my ongoing campaign set in 1479 DR too. I don't think it could be that hard. |
| #9gomeztooJan 28, 2012 7:54:34 | We're going back to 1385 and saving Mystra. You can't do that, because you are moving back to a time when Mystra is stil there, so she'll forbid you into her timeline. Now, what you CAN do is go back to before the rule was installed, and cast a contingency event that will go off when Mystra is assasinated. Even then, you may get unpredictable effects though, so I wouldn't consider it a smart thing to do. You could make things worse. Gomez |

Mike Mearls announced today at a D&D XP seminar that the FR in D&D Next will support all timelines of the Realms. ------------------------ " Resetting of timelines for the Realms? I can't give a specific answer to that. We know there are things that people like and dislike about different timelines in the various settings. If there's information that's part of the canon, it still happened. We won't tell people in what time period to play in. Greyhawk also mentioned. We want to support all timelines of all settings going forward." ------------------------ I'm guessing this means no retcon removal of the Spellplague but support for pre-spellplague timelines. |
| #11Evergreen_AldaronFeb 05, 2012 10:47:01 | I wouldn't mind the seeing the spellplageu go away, but getting rid of the powers system is critical. If they keep it I will simply stay in 3.5 and be extremely happy. |
| #12sfdragonFeb 05, 2012 20:11:24 | rumors are abound that the great wheel is rolling back into town ANd the vancian system is coming back. |
| #13The_SilverswordFeb 05, 2012 20:49:07 | rumors are abound that the great wheel is rolling back into town ANd the vancian system is coming back. THe Vancian system is coming back? Noooooo! So we're going back to once a wizard uses all their spells theyre pretty much useless again? for the love of Ao noooooooo!!!! If they get rid of the coolest thing about 4e, im gonna scream!!! ****! they need to settle on a system already. buying new set of core rule books every couple of years is getting ridiculous! 5e just better blow everything else out of the water, otherwise i dont see too many people being dumb enough to pick this crap up yet again! They got most of the 3e crew back on board, so im guessing its going to be alot like 3e, but why would any one want to buy that AGAIN!? especially seeing as how we already got pathfinder. Well i could bitch alot more about this but the wife wants to watch a movie with me, so i guess im cutting it short. The Silversword signing off... |
| #14sfdragonFeb 05, 2012 22:40:29 | 4e was bust...... cool.... national tresure 2 is on but yeah the absence of the vancian was pretty good..... the restof it.. not so much |
| #15sfdragonFeb 05, 2012 22:42:23 | whoops |
| #16Mr_MiscellanyFeb 05, 2012 23:08:36 | Friends! Let's not base our responses on mere rumor! Have the books in hand, then decide if it's warranted to load a round in the Nerd Rage Cannon. ;) |
| #17sfdragonFeb 05, 2012 23:27:36 | but but but but but but I lost my time machine so I cant go get the books....... |
| #18crzyhawkFeb 10, 2012 9:12:04 | Friends! Let's not base our responses on mere rumor! The "speculation" about the awful Vancian spellcasting coming back was from Monte Cook's mouth. I kinda think he's not speculating. I don't have high hopes for 5e's mechanics, but I do have high hopes they will get the realms right. |
| #19Dark_Wizard_02Feb 10, 2012 16:01:43 | WotC hasn't gotten the Realms right for at least an entire edition, not just limited to the excessive, heavy-handed, tired meta-plot of the Spellplague. They're just lucky many of their freelancers and authors are better at it than they are, helping keeping the ship afloat for this long. Unless (and until) some of those freelancers and authors have more input on the setting's course and given the chance to smooth out all the rough parts introduced or exaggerated by WotC's 4E meddling, the Realms will just be another list of names they tag onto some generic supplement. The recent batch of DDI articles were a good direction, but really they should have implemented this much earlier, say the year following FR 4E's release. Regular releases, of decent size, creates talking points. We saw the uptick of discussion with Neverwinter's release, we see it now with talk of 5E FR, the announcement of Elminster's FR, and the Cormyr DDI articles (maybe they should have spaced them out). I'm aware of the earlier DDI articles, but they seemed space irregularly to me. One Neverwinter style book a year would have been something to keep the buzz going. Offering a trickle of lore for what ended up practically a new setting is little different than leaving the setting one of their defunct properties, where only a group of diehards have anything to share. Since 4E FR shed a not insignificant portion of its fanbase, that's like dealing the setting a losing hand right when it sat down at the table. If that's the case, I'd rather they not go through the extraneous effort of the 4E transition Realms Shattering Event. |
