| #1hyrsamAug 20, 2012 19:14:10 | I'm guessing they're going to release something like this from the keynote when, they were talking about settings being a way were they'll intoduce new content, abiet using darksun and greyhawk as an example. So what kinds of Background, Domains, Wizard Traditions, Rogue Schemes, Specialities, Races, Subraces ect... would you like to see in it? I imagine Harper will be a Speciality, Thay a Background, Red Wizard a Tradition, and Shadow Thief of Amn a Rogue scheme for example. I wouldn't mind seeing what happens to Celebrants of Sharess, it was a such a weird class, an arcane magic class granted by a Goddess of cats and festhalls(brothels) that mixed fixures of Bards and Barbarians amoung others, just out of curiousity. Anyone else have player stuff they'd like to see? |
| #2DoctorNecroticAug 20, 2012 19:38:17 | Domains for Mystra, Helm, Bhaal, and whoever else may be returning (YAY!) to the Realms after an unneeded vacation. Perhaps ploy hooks, specialities, and backgrounds to bring more involvement other areas, as it seems the non-European based Realms lands are making a return (And yes, I love them.) This would be a good chance to rewrite them and make them really feel like an involved piece of the Realms. |
| #3LordManshoonAug 20, 2012 19:50:25 | For me, I would like to see the following make an appearance, be they specialties, backgrounds, or what have you: Harper, Purple Dragon Knight, Bladesinger, Red Wizard of Thay, Flaming Fist Mercenary, Candlekeep Scholar, War Wizard of Cormyr, Scarlet Mummer (yes, that's right). I want to see the gods given plenty of love, especially my favorite, Helm, who is pretty much guaranteed to be returning in one form or another. As much as I figure evil deities will be confined to the campaign guide, I wouldn't mind the players' guide discussing the enemy faiths that a devotee of a deity like Chauntea or Torm might encounter. I also wouldn't be opposed to Kara-Tur being given a bit of the spotlight, or at least its impact on Thesk. |
| #4sfdragonAug 20, 2012 20:44:16 | I'd want the deities listed with domains, each playable subrace and each human ethnicticty complete with racial descriptions. prestige classes.paragon paths. |
| #5hyrsamAug 20, 2012 21:40:28 | I think Advanced Specialites have replaced Prestige Classes and Paragon Paths. Oh and Kara-Tur and Zakahara didn't leave the Realms, they were just ignored until recently. Mazitica maybe making a come back though. Maz is kind of cool as thier not many high fantasy settings based on MesoAmerica. I assume thier Gods are amoung those that have returned. |

I want the DM of my Maztica campaign to do a reboot for 5e. Also, Kara-Tur *kinda* got support in the magazines back in October... Okay, not reallly. |
| #7The_SilverswordAug 21, 2012 1:54:11 | What id like to see is more crunch in the players guide, and more fluff and lore in the Campaign guide. They really dropped the ball on that one with the 4e versions. Way too much overlap in those two. |
| #8hyrsamAug 21, 2012 8:29:02 | I'd like to see all the Gods listed with info you need to play them, not like the way they did it in 4e were demigods and primordials were an after thought and not even in the players guide. I wonder if thier will be regional backgrounds? I doubt there will be a Class in it, but if thier is, it maybe Swordmage. Still I'm betting on mostly races, subraces, backgrounds, builds like rogue schemes or domains and specialties. |
| #9sfdragonAug 21, 2012 11:48:00 | if its going to be a players guide then it should have all things that a player would need. |
| #10DoctorNecroticAug 21, 2012 12:42:16 | To revise what I said, why not leave the specific godly things in the setting guide. Have the player guide have references to the gods and domains (included in the Realms specific and core) which priests and can utilize in worship of them. Also, I hope regional benefits are back! I'm glad that 4e Realms at least kept that going.... |
| #11hyrsamAug 21, 2012 19:59:32 | Actually I think for Domains thier going to just use the core ones, but when add on an additional ability depending on which God. I think thier also just going to use the Gods name instead of calling by,domain names So instead of being a Priest of the War domain, it'd be Tempus or Garagos, or Red Knight or who ever for example. |
| #12sfdragonAug 21, 2012 20:29:14 | and I'd rather not have the core 5e deities in the realms thankyou |
| #13DoctorNecroticAug 21, 2012 20:53:42 | and I'd rather not have the core 5e deities in the realms thankyou Yeah. We don't want to repeat previous base splitting nightmares made in the Realms after all. |
| #14The_SilverswordAug 22, 2012 6:25:19 | and I'd rather not have the core 5e deities in the realms thankyou What about Core Realms Gods in the default setting? Although the way its sounding Forgotten Realms is the default setting! |
| #15GreenKnightAug 28, 2012 18:57:12 | I'd like to see all the Gods listed with info you need to play them, not like the way they did it in 4e were demigods and primordials were an after thought and not even in the players guide. Well, as far as gods are concerned, it's been suggested that the main book would probably just have a list of the 20 or so gods most commonly worshipped by adventurers, with another book going more indepth on the pantheon in general. So in that regard my guess would be: Bahamut, Corellon Larethian, Garl Glittergold, Gond, Helm, Ilmater, Kelemvor, Lathander, Mask, Mielikki, Moradin, Mystra, Oghma, Selune, Silvanus, Tempus, Torm, Tymora, Waukeen, Yondalla In addition, I'd like rules of some kind for the following: - Red Wizard: The real ones. I want to see some kind of adaptation of the classic Red Wizard, tied to Thay being returned to what it was prior to 4E. - Spellfire Wielder: What can I say? I liked the Spellfire novel. I'd like that to be a playable option. - Mulhorand: I want it a playable region again (Given what we've heard about Backgrounds in 5E I imagine that Backgrouns in the 5E Realms are a given). |
| #16sfdragonAug 28, 2012 21:51:24 | and I'd rather not have the core 5e deities in the realms thankyou thats what it sounds like, but support from the begining does not mean its the core settting. If 5e mind you wants to really succeede then they should separate all settings from the dnd rules and not list the deities, racial...... wait what thread was this now?? right its that thread. as I was saying, the phb should not lsit any mroe than is neccessary to play the game in any setting, which means nothing more than the racial appearances, sample names, brief description on each race, no listing of deities, no racial history, no nothing that would tie 5e phb to any setting. to answer your question, NO not that either. List the domains and move on and leave the deities in the setting books. |

Never, ever going to happen. New players and new DMs need fluff to get the ball rolling for their own game. Just because you understand what a Halfling is, doesn't mean new people do. Basic descriptions are what we got in 4E and DDN is moving far, far away from that mentality. There are going to be a lot of basic world assumptions made in the core three books, not least of which will be clearly defined Gods. |
| #18sfdragonAug 29, 2012 7:43:09 | never say never and yeah, they can give more of a description than the basic. |
| #19GreenKnightAug 30, 2012 23:21:17 | I hope they use Shadowdale as the starting area in the 5E book the way they used Loudwater in the 4E book. Not least of which because Shadowdale has, you know, actual character in comparison to Loudwater. |
| #20The_SilverswordAug 31, 2012 1:38:51 | I hope they use Shadowdale as the starting area in the 5E book the way they used Loudwater in the 4E book. Not least of which because Shadowdale has, you know, actual character in comparison to Loudwater. Loudwater as it was orginally written up (check out Volo's guide to the North) had lots of character, but they completely butchered it for 4e for whatever reason, guess times were hard for Loudwater during the wailing years or something. Any way, I personally would like to see Theymarsh as a starting point, makes sense, its on a major tradeway, its not too overly huge like Waterdeep, nice spot to start an adventure. That and I would like to see a map for Theymarsh already! |

A tad confusing, no? |
