#1 6nfinn Jul 26, 2014 14:40:46	Going to start up my 5th edition campaign up shortly and needing a few questions answered.   What year does 5th edition start?   Is there any updated maps for faerun?

#4 sfdragon Jul 29, 2014 0:11:19	aaa no, I'm afraid not. They said they were moving foward and trying to have the feel of 2e/3.x. They also stated that you could play with whatever rules with the setting or something like it     trust me, you're not the only one who wishes for a reboot.   I would like one too, but even I know now as I knew then, we were not getting that.   the spellplague is being reduced to a footnote as it should have been during 4e and we are moving on.
#5 Stigger Jul 29, 2014 12:27:18	Sadly true, the one thing they've been utterly clear about in the lead up to 5e is that there would be no reboot.  Doesn't mean that we can't do it at home, but don't expect any official support for any such notions.
#6 Zardnaar Jul 30, 2014 22:56:02	If every ignores FR/boycotts it agian though they may have to reboot it. Totally not interested in new FR because the date is not 1375 or 1376 DR.

I have done the following research on the web so far.   Sifted from the timeline at the Forgotten Realms Wiki (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com):   1385 DR the Spellplague struck Realmspace 1479 DR the Spellplague was ended with the event known as Mystra's Return, also the "present" year in the fourth edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide 1484 DR in novels The Companions, The Godborn and The Last Threshold 1485 DR is the last year where notations was made on the timeline on the Wiki   Also found this on TheEdverse.com:   1487 DR in "The Herald" ( http://theedverse.com/#comment-1368537096)
#8 Brimleydower Aug 02, 2014 1:35:30	I've been reading the Sundering Novels and watching some interviews and the like here and there. I like what I'm seeing. Seems like they're earnestly trying to get the Realms back to feeling the same, even if they can't outright abandon recent history.
#9 moonbeast Jan 28, 2015 6:42:32	I've been studiyng this also.  Your conclusion is what I have been able to deduce as well.  The 4th Edition sourcebooks and its last published adventures seem to have ended with the "Sundering" published events.  And when I read about the events of the newly published 5E material, it seems that the "Era of 5th Edition" is one of two things:     1) 5th Edition era is a few years just after the Sundering (events)   or   2) right at the tail end of the Sundering      A few DR dates were slipped here and there if I look closely at the published D&D Next adventures, which is really a 2-year playtest period prior to 5E's release.  Sadly many of those are not fully available for purchase, since they were limited "giveaways" during the GenCons and other conventions.   But the others can be purchased as PDFs from the www.dndclassics.com website.   The DnD Next adventures, it seems, took place during the short transitional time between the end of the 4th Edition Era, and the beginning of the 5th Edition Era.   They mostly gave dates within a short period of time circa 1479 to 1485 or within a few years of those dates.     The above also explains why the Sundering published adventures (The Crystal Shard, Murder in Baldurs Gate, Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle)   were marked as "edition neutral", which means you were free to play it with either the DnD Next (5e) rules or the older 4th Edition rules.  Makes sense, since the Sundering itself was a brief transitional period BETWEEN the Faerunian timeline eras of 4th edition and 5th edition.     So in conclusion.... The Sundering did not last very long, maybe 8-12 years at most if even that?  It was basically the Overgod Ao doing a quickie "damage control" to undo some of the cataclysmic things that happened during 4th Edition history.     Sooooo...... IMHO (and I could be wrong) it should be relatively safe to say that if you want to follow semi-canon Forgotten Realms history.... if you want to start your 5th Edition campaign, then start it some years AFTER the 1480s.  Maybe starting around 1490 or even 1495 would be safe to say is "easily within the 5th Edition historical era".  Confusing eh?        sfdragon wrote:
