| #2reneshatMay 22, 2008 2:09:00 | A bit less than your actual daily posts? When more than half of your active threads are active all the time, it greatly throws off the information. Let's say we have 20 very active threads. Also, each day, we have about 40 other threads that are active for that day, but don't get a daily bump. Even if all 40 of the less active threads are only posted on for one day that week, we wind up with only 300 threads for the week. That will give us 43 threads daily, even though the previous situation puts us at 60 daily threads, a good deal more than the preferred amount. This also ignores the situation where the difficulty of finding the thread you want to post to lowers board traffic. If we want the boards to be separate, at this point we have to expand thread count traffic. |
| #3lord_karsusMay 22, 2008 2:13:14 | -Just trying to share. Various individuals have stated their intentions to leave, because of the merger of the various Forgotten Realms subareas into one unified section. Doing so would be counterproductive to the "plight" to have things seperated by whatever degree. |
| #4reneshatMay 22, 2008 2:42:34 | -Just trying to share. Sorry LK, didn't mean to make it seem like I was blaming you. |
| #5lord_karsusMay 22, 2008 2:57:01 | -That's okay, you big lug, you. :P |
| #6StiggerMay 22, 2008 3:29:15 | Counterproductive perhaps, but given the 4e Realms, what is the incentive to actually 'fight the good fight' as it were? If you have nothing but apathy, if not loathing, of the new setting, why bother? If you take my meaning there. |
| #7rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 23, 2008 11:44:07 | Thanks for the link. |

If you have nothing but apathy, if not loathing, of the new setting, why bother? If you take my meaning there. -Being as that these boards are "Edition Neutral", there's nothing stopping one from simply not incorporating the 4e stuff into their own games, or ignoring them, and so on and so forth, and continuing to use the boards as they have been. |
| #10lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 12:00:42 | Thanks for the link. -You're welcome. |
| #111_ton_ghostMay 23, 2008 12:11:46 | Thanks for the heads up LK. Long story short, yeah, we should stick together. Too many people want to jump ship, understandably too, but that unwillingness to fight as it were will only facilitate a further downward spiral. And though I am loathe to embrace the new way of things (4th ed's dumbing down of a 30 year institution), it's not to say we can't use the FR forums to postulate specific questions that aren't necessarilly 4th ed. It wasn't long ago you were hooking ppl up w/ 2nd ed stuff (thanks again btw), so, I think it stands to reason we should use that as a bench mark. |
| #12alediranMay 23, 2008 12:27:05 | And though I am loathe to embrace the new way of things (4th ed's dumbing down of a 30 year institution), it's not to say we can't use the FR forums to postulate specific questions that aren't necessarilly 4th ed. It wasn't long ago you were hooking ppl up w/ 2nd ed stuff (thanks again btw), so, I think it stands to reason we should use that as a bench mark. That's my way of thinking either. If we can save at least one person from falling to FR 4ed and show him/her the wonders of the old editions then our work will be rewarded. And they exist, there is always somebody who will look to older editions and wonder at the marvels written there. |
| #13lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 12:32:30 | That's my way of thinking either. | #14StiggerMay 23, 2008 12:34:06 | Indeed. To each their own... |
| #15alediranMay 23, 2008 12:37:30 | -If somebody likes the 4e stuff, more power to them. There is no fault in that. What I meant was that, if somebody comes here with only the knowledge of 4ed FR and after showing that person the lore of previous editions, decides to read more about them and fells in love with pre-Spellplage FR, then we have given another option to a person who might not have it. |
| #16lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 12:38:43 | -Didn't sound like that. Avoid falling into that pitfall, my Hand. |
| #17alediranMay 23, 2008 12:40:41 | -Didn't sound like that. Avoid falling into that pitfall, my Hand. I'm half-air elemental, I can fly and not even DMZs can prevent that. People who'll come to this boards after 4ed without knowledge of previous editions need the change to know them and decide. At least one of them will jump train. |
| #18markustay63May 23, 2008 14:04:25 | -Various individuals have stated their intentions to leave... ![]() I have found, over the last few days, that the Paizo Boards are very well organized and helpful, and the people there quite friendly. ;) Although I have to admit, visually they are less then 'stunning'. ![]() Also, they have just released their FREE Alpha 3 Rules for playtesating, and they are amazing! So if you guys get tired of all the heavy traffic and trolling, you know where to find me. :D |
| #19alediranMay 23, 2008 14:09:06 | You still need to show up in The Vault a little more. And I already got ALPHA 3, it's the first complete alpha with the 11 base classes from the PHB. Good enough to use as the new PHB. |
| #20TheriseMay 23, 2008 14:15:00 | (...)So if you guys get tired of all the heavy traffic and trolling, you know where to find me. :D Yes, we know. You'll still be here. ![]() |

My experience is a bit different (as a lurker, that is)--the people seem nice and all, but I find the overall website and forum layout to be really confusing. |
| #22ywhtptgtfoMay 23, 2008 15:30:46 | So Wizard's IT is brilliant enough to condense this series of forum into one big glob of mess. Why did they do that? |
| #23alediranMay 23, 2008 15:36:30 | So Wizard's IT is brilliant enough to condense this series of forum into one big glob of mess. Why did they do that? I don't know. I can't understand the logic behind it. |
| #24StiggerMay 23, 2008 15:59:05 | Well, speaking purely for myself, I love what Pathfinder did with the Sorcerer and Wizard classes... |
| #25alediranMay 23, 2008 16:01:48 | Well, speaking purely for myself, I love what Pathfinder did with the Sorcerer and Wizard classes... To all classes. Fighters sound better, rogues have lots of new class features. Specialist wizards are finally atractive to play, sorcerers aren't forced to be of draconic descendance, and so on. |
| #26StiggerMay 23, 2008 16:05:46 | Well, yes, they're all great improvements from what I recall of them, but those two in particular were very good from my point of view. |
| #27alediranMay 23, 2008 16:08:39 | I love also the changes to cantrips, which now are infinite. The cleric/druid change of Cure Minor Wounds to heal the character to 0 was a nice touch and makes them more important in a group if you don't want to risk character death with a botched Heal/Fortitude check. |
| #28markustay63May 23, 2008 16:19:37 | Yes, we know. You'll still be here. I promised Mula that I would still try to participate, but only when I can be helpful - all the negativity doesn't help anyone (hint, hint). So, I just gave people the address of another useful site, in order to help alleviate some of the traffic problems WotC will be having by condensing their boards down to one. If there's one thing I enjoy beiong, it's being helpful. ![]() |

| #31merrikcaleMay 23, 2008 16:56:11 | -If somebody likes the 4e stuff, more power to them. There is no fault in that. Very true. Of course, they will be repeatedly ridiculed here as well as ostracized |
| #32lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 16:58:18 | Very true. Of course, they will be repeatedly ridiculed here as well as ostracized -That's not nice. Nor will that happen, in actuality. There's no reason to be mean for no reason. |
| #33merrikcaleMay 23, 2008 17:02:58 | -That's not nice. Nor will that happen, in actuality. There's no reason to be mean for no reason. I was only being a sarcastic jerk. I promise not to publicly criticize and ostracize anyone who likes 4E Realms |
| #34StiggerMay 23, 2008 17:07:07 | Do we have your sworn oath then, or is that a bit too strong? :P :D |
| #35merrikcaleMay 23, 2008 17:09:14 | Do we have your sworn oath then, or is that a bit too strong? :P :D I could swear on it sure, but i will more likely break it the first time someone posts about how cool the "changelands" are or how dragonborn fit right in. But I'll try:D |
| #36lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 17:10:36 | I could swear on it sure, but i will more likely break it the first time someone posts about how cool the "changelands" are or how dragonborn fit right in. -Remember, ladies and gentlemen: He is a lawyer. ;) :P |

| #38rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 23, 2008 20:49:23 | Specialist wizards are finally atractive to play, sorcerers aren't forced to be of draconic descendance, and so on. To be fair, they never were, at least going by the original PHB description. Draconic blood was one of many supposed sources of the sorcerer's mysterious power. |
| #39lord_karsusMay 23, 2008 20:56:05 | To be fair, they never were, at least going by the original PHB description. Draconic blood was one of many supposed sources of the sorcerer's mysterious power. -For the Kara-Tur Re-Dux, I developed two "new" Sorcerers: The Oni Sorcerer, who derives his/her power from his/her Oni heritage, and the Lung Sorcerer, who derives his/her power from his/her Lung Dragon heritage. |
| #40rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 23, 2008 21:15:59 | -For the Kara-Tur Re-Dux, I developed two "new" Sorcerers: The Oni Sorcerer, who derives his/her power from his/her Oni heritage, and the Lung Sorcerer, who derives his/her power from his/her Lung Dragon heritage. Nice. I like the idea of many different possible causes of sorcery, myself. |
| #41lord_karsusMay 24, 2008 0:39:09 | Nice. -I found that making them up were fun. They got to be Sorcerers with a little something extra. Lung Dragon Apotheosis or Oni Apotheosis every five levels. I might make another couple for my own campaign. You know, something like (Western) Dragons, or maybe some kind of Fey power. Mixing that with the Spell Point system should be sufficient to really make Wizard and Sorcerer different. |
| #42xmen510May 24, 2008 9:23:21 | Look at it this way for those who aren't sure abou 4E realms. FR 3.5 and before are Realms 616 (as LK is fond of saying). Realms 4E is Realms 617. Maybe that will make it easier for some people. This is an alternate universe of FR. What If... Cyric killed Mystra, and Tyr betrayed his own portfolio by killing another God without looking into the matter at all... There, all is good with the Realms once again! |
| #43StiggerMay 24, 2008 9:24:54 | That probably isn't a bad way of looking at this really... |
| #44lord_karsusMay 24, 2008 9:25:56 | Look at it this way for those who aren't sure abou 4E realms. FR 3.5 and before are Realms 616 (as LK is fond of saying). Realms 4E is Realms 617. | #45xmen510May 24, 2008 9:27:45 | I know, i am just trying to aleve? the immediate and prominent pain for some. As I have mentioned before, I'll probably try out the new realms. If I don't like it, then I will just use the 4E system and use the 3.5 and earlier fluff. |
| #46StiggerMay 24, 2008 9:48:32 | Pathfinder is looking better and better for me to be honest... while 3.5 can be a little clunky at times, and 4e looks very streamlined, I'm having a problem with the idea that a thousand dollars plus some change worth of D&D books are about to become useless paperweights if I don't spend the time and effort converting them... which I don't have to do with Pathfinder. Economy of effort looks like its going to win out with me on that issue... :D |
| #47blackball8_dupMay 25, 2008 1:55:03 | Can someone share what Pathfinder is? Ive heard a couple of people mention it, but I dont know what it is. |
| #48TheriseMay 25, 2008 2:07:20 | Can someone share what Pathfinder is? Ive heard a couple of people mention it, but I dont know what it is. After Dragon/Dungeon went digital, Paizo (the previous publisher) continued publishing a line of their own adventure paths (big multi-adventure books with thematically connected adventures in a "path" from 1st-18th lvl or so), with the brand name of Pathfinder. The adventure paths they publish all work in a new game world of their own devising. Not too long ago, they decided to keep Pathfinder compatible with 3.5E. Then they announced the launch of their own game rule-set, which is a bit like an evolution of 3.5E with paring down of some clunky rules and smoothing of other rules, and it's also called Pathfinder. |
| #49blackball8_dupMay 25, 2008 2:15:12 | Okay thank you. So, its basically the Paizo (I remember their Dragon magazines. They were retty good) campaign world, and then new rules for their world. Do you know what some of their new rules are? Like examples? |
| #50TheriseMay 25, 2008 2:21:36 | Okay thank you. So, its basically the Paizo (I remember their Dragon magazines. They were retty good) campaign world, and then new rules for their world. Do you know what some of their new rules are? Like examples? Actually, you can download their whole "alpha" rulebook for free from their website. They're encouraging people to playtest it and give them feedback (before they publish the beta release for a charge). It looks like 3.5E to me, with a few things cut out and some things smoothed over to make them easier. |
| #51alkasynMay 25, 2008 4:23:24 | Okay thank you. So, its basically the Paizo (I remember their Dragon magazines. They were retty good) campaign world, and then new rules for their world. Do you know what some of their new rules are? Like examples? From cosmetic things like merging hide and move silently, or changing balance into acrobatics, through getting rid of empty levels to giving special abilities, such as bloodlines to sorcerers, or an unique ability to a specialist wizard each couple levels. I recommend checking it out, It's definitely worth it. What's more, the artwork is really one of the best I've seen. |
| #52warweaverMay 25, 2008 6:20:14 | Hey everyone. Might be some people who remember me from an (in)famous FR-is-dead thread or two. I'll drop my two cents. I think the people who still love and especially play in the Realms (in any edition) should stick around - especially, as Alediran sorta said, to show the majesty of "how it used to be" to the 4e'ers, as an option of what else is (was) out there. Additional note - these boards don't make WotC a dime (obviously), so don't think by posting here you're making an implicit acceptance of 4e FR. I think those of us displeased have made ourselves loud and clear. I however, probably won't be posting much anymore. I'm not in/running any FR games atm, and nearly all my player pool is switching whole-hog to 4e. And while I'm warily interested in the new core stuff (and have the 3 core books on the way to see if it's worth it), the wounds of the FR changes are just too fresh for me. That combined with the lessened need will make me a ghost here - but I wish all you stalwart folk the best. On a lighter note - I made a simple fix to Sorcerers for my game, gave them bonus feats like the Wizard that had to be heritage feats. But it didn't have to be draconic - there's celestial, fiendish, fey...and I'm one of those DMs perfectly happy to make up more for a fun PC concept. Anyway that fix made them much more popular. :P |
| #53storm_silverhandMay 25, 2008 7:11:59 | Hai guyz! Wut's gonin on in dis tread? Seriously, not a nice thing to come back to the boards to find. ![]() Oh well. *trundles back to lurking* |

| #56reneshatMay 26, 2008 0:15:43 | To prove my point on the way the math is almost specifically designed against FR, over the past week Sunday (today/yesterday) through the Monday before, we only had 71 active threads. Well you divide that by the number of days, and you get 10.14...... threads active each day. Honestly, with the way they are doing the math, we are going to be lucky if they don't try to merge FR and another board..... |
| #57zakman_dupMay 26, 2008 15:45:52 | I remember seeing an entry on Google with the title 'Is Dicefreaks a dictatorship?'. It really occurs to me that one should replace DF with... well... WotC. What I'm trying to say is that they actually don't care for us 3e fans. Well, they give us the chance to co-decide on the future of the boards but in the end our decissions will be disregarded. Just look at the things they already did. There are so many threads I can't find anymore, even in the archives. While plenty of them were crap indeed, a lot of them were really useful, too. One example is the Epic Faq thread. Very useful to players of 3e. But since everyone is shifting to 4e, no one needs 3e rules threads, obviously. So get rid of it. Just my humble opinion ![]() Btw, does anybody know if paizo is planning to rework the 3e epic system too? |

| #79lord_karsusJun 02, 2008 10:35:16 | Regarding boards setip: -This is what I am currently mulling. I need to figure out how the community will best be split. Based on activity, there will be two threads, instead of one. |

Aye. It should be logical though - if people have a question and have to ponder in what forum to post, it is not actually going to be an improvement. Personally, I see something in Gaming vs Novels, or, more abstract, Rules and applications vs Background and plotlines. Want to know how to make a drider (N)PC? Go to rules. Want to know what the status of Driders are within Drow community? Go to background. Gomez |
| #85merrikcaleJun 02, 2008 11:41:28 | -I suggested 'Community' be renamed 'General', but, other than that... excellent breakdown |
| #86rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 02, 2008 12:09:28 | excellent breakdown Yes, it seems quite logical to me. |
| #87StiggerJun 02, 2008 13:54:42 | Well, we could just go with something simple like FR Crunch and FR Fluff... not particularly dignified, but it would get the point across. |
| #88merrikcaleJun 02, 2008 16:09:30 | Well, we could just go with something simple like FR Crunch and FR Fluff... not particularly dignified, but it would get the point across. not bad at all |
| #89lord_karsusJun 02, 2008 17:00:06 | -Would it be dignified to call them "Forgotten Realms: Mechanical Issues" and "Forgotten Realms: Realmslore Issues", perhaps? |
| #90JudgeDookieJun 02, 2008 17:40:09 | -Would it be dignified to call them "Forgotten Realms: Mechanical Issues" and "Forgotten Realms: Realmslore Issues", perhaps? Dude, I was just about to say that same thing, but decided to break out from work rather than post. Yeah, "Forgotten Realms Mechanics" for sure, and "Forgotten Realms Canon" or "Forgotten Realms Realmslore" would be nice. It is much more specific and easier to understand. |
| #91warweaverJun 02, 2008 19:24:35 | Personally, I see something in Gaming vs Novels, or, more abstract, Rules and applications vs Background and plotlines. I think either of these would work - an awful lot of people seem to like FR for its novels as well as the setting. "Crunch" and "Fluff" would be nice too...I like the idea of fluff being called "Realmslore", but I dunno what I'd call crunch. I would avoid the "DMs" and "Players" division, personally. I worry it might promote the adversarial view some people have about the hobby. |
| #92JudgeDookieJun 02, 2008 19:49:47 | I would avoid the "DMs" and "Players" division, personally. I worry it might promote the adversarial view some people have about the hobby. Completely. Else you get back into one of the same things that brought 4e about in the first place. Not to mention, yet another division with things. |
| #93StiggerJun 03, 2008 1:27:34 | -Would it be dignified to call them "Forgotten Realms: Mechanical Issues" and "Forgotten Realms: Realmslore Issues", perhaps? Much better way of putting it, gets my vote. |
| #94warweaverJun 03, 2008 4:49:41 | Much better way of putting it, gets my vote. Is it for a troubleshooting sub-forum of the FR board? Because if not, I take issue with "Issues" - makes it sound like a board specifically for people's problems. I think "Mechanics" and "Realmslore" is good though. :P |
| #95xmen510Jun 03, 2008 5:42:31 | -Would it be dignified to call them "Forgotten Realms: Mechanical Issues" and "Forgotten Realms: Realmslore Issues", perhaps? I think this might suit it better: Forgotten Realms: Issues Of Logic Forgotten Realms: Issues Of Imagination :D |
| #96gomeztooJun 03, 2008 6:30:32 | Just call it 'Forgotten Realms: Mechanics' and 'Forgotten Realms: Lore' . I wouldn't call it Forgotten Realms: Realmslore, that is a bit redundant. I also wouldn't call it Issues - that sounds like every post would be a problem. |
| #97rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 03, 2008 11:46:59 | Just call it 'Forgotten Realms: Mechanics' and 'Forgotten Realms: Lore' . That would work for me. |

| #99merrikcaleJun 04, 2008 15:42:38 | So we have 5 (thats right 5!) boards just on character building, never mind the character optimization and other character boards, but we only get 1 FR board. What a joke |
| #100lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 17:16:12 | -According to Mike (He's the guy who is in charge)...Okay, just looking over the list, here is where we currently stand: -So, apparently, even though we have an average of 36(.4) active threads per day (that doesn't count multiple responses in these threads), we aren't going to be getting any extra threads just yet. Even though we are clearly above that 25 thread threshold. Go figure. ![]() -So, all I can ask of everyone is that you participate more. Turn those off-topic conversations into new threads (that are relevant in the Forgotten Realms section). Ask all those questions you've been dying to ask, but never had the nerve to. And so on and so forth. |
| #101JudgeDookieJun 04, 2008 19:59:43 | Has it occurred to them that, perhaps with people trying to keep up all the time by reading through the 36.4 active threads in order to stay a part of the conversation, that they are forced to limit how much time they actually participate? Also, the threads they simply abandon because its grown 2 pages overnight? |
| #102merrikcaleJun 04, 2008 20:09:13 | -According to Mike (He's the guy who is in charge)... And how does this justify 5 character building boards? |
| #103lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 20:50:55 | -I'm not the guy to pose those questions to. Go to the Community Business threads. |
| #104rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 04, 2008 20:53:02 | Holy crap! I only just noticed that now there are 5 CO boards, one for each "role". |
| #105lord_karsusJun 04, 2008 21:01:06 | -Yep. It does look nice and neat, though. |
| #106merrikcaleJun 04, 2008 21:07:38 | -I'm not the guy to pose those questions to. Go to the Community Business threads. I thought you had power, man? when are we merging the Dragon and Dungeon boards since there is only a handful of active threads? |
| #107JudgeDookieJun 04, 2008 21:27:07 | I thought you had power, man? Power is usually perceived, rather than possessed. |
| #108merrikcaleJun 04, 2008 21:32:29 | Power is usually perceived, rather than possessed. Tread lightly, my friend, lest you awaken the power of Karsus |
| #109JudgeDookieJun 04, 2008 21:34:33 | I have no fear of Karsus--less he farts in a small and confined room. He knows I mean no disrespect regardless. EDIT: And if he don't, I have a small and confined room in which I can fart while within his company. |
| #110warweaverJun 04, 2008 21:47:05 | I have no fear of Karsus--less he farts in a small and confined room. You'll be in a small and confined room with the severed head of Mystra more like it, with several Handfellas wailing on you with +5 Flamewar Burst baseball bats. |

| #113StiggerJun 04, 2008 22:07:21 | Feh, LK is a big teddy bear... go on, kick him, he likes it deep down. ;) |

Just name the place, and your Simbul look-alike exotic dancer will be there, with spinning spellfire-colored tassels. You can play 'find the seven stars of Mystra'. Is it because Shar stole your heart (literally)? Ahh, she was a b*tch anyway man, you'll get over 'er...have an ale. |
| #119xmen510Jun 05, 2008 6:54:29 | when are we merging the Dragon and Dungeon boards since there is only a handful of active threads? Those won't get merged. They will not reduce possible advertising to which they are prmoting what they consider to be their "Important" areas. D&D:I is their only concern now. With the only 3 books per campaign setting, they don't have to spend very much time at all worrying about the setting aspects of the game. They will only worry about that which brings in more monthly income, and break their own rules for said aspects. For the areas they don't care so much about (id. these boards), they will ignore how they are doing. |
| #120lord_karsusJun 05, 2008 10:02:20 | -Yes, there are a few sections that will not be being merged and/or deleted simply because of what they represent. |

| #125alediranJun 06, 2008 8:38:00 | And WotC was trying to make us believe that Forgotten Realms isn't popular. Yeah right..... |
| #126StiggerJun 06, 2008 9:04:18 | If they didn't think it was popular, they wouldn't be putting it out first... :P |

| #180lord_karsusJun 13, 2008 10:11:00 | Personally, I think they are waiting to see what the numbers look like in August, maybe as late as September. Honestly, as the RPGA campaign gets going, we should also get more traffic through here as they have questions about fluff and the like. -Things are already pushing it as it is, without having an actual sourcebook being published since September, and the point about 4e has been brought up numerous times. But, all of it, to no avail... This could cause things to be interesting seeing how I highly doubt they will split boards between pre-spellplage and post-spellplague.... -They are going to be split along these lines: Mechanics and Lore. One board to discuss the 'mechanical' questions (Where do I find this feat?), and one to discuss the 'Realmslore' questions (When was Drizzt born?). |

Nuh uh! Yeah huh! Nuh uh, nuh uh, nuh uh, nuh uh, nuh uh, nuh uh...... Compared to.... 4ed has no information on the monsters besides stat blocks. Nuh uh, you obviously have no information on 4ed. Yeah? Well I've got my books right here, and they say your a poopy head, errr, I mean wrong. Nuh uh! I've got my books right here and they say..... See? | #188JudgeDookieJun 13, 2008 19:02:32 | Indefinitely. In which case, they'll just merge us back into a single board because of traffic laws. |

| #193reneshatJun 14, 2008 1:29:49 | You haven't participated in many academic debates then... Are you calling the First Contact thread an "academic debate?" Hyperbole runs rampant and subjective views are used as the foundation for objective statements. Since most of the posters have very little experience with 4ed, most people don't even have a solid grounding in what exactly they are arguing about. Seeing how the thread is about first impressions that is fine, but the extremes found in the thread are laughable at best. Make no mistake about it, the First Contact thread is far from an "academic debate." |

| #196markustay63Jun 14, 2008 11:07:26 | Stupid board seperation - the game mechanics stuff was THE slowest moving board before (Arms and Equipment). All the other boards that existed before will still fall under the 'general' category, which is already far to busy. I could care less about a mechanical board - what I want to see is an FR 'lore' board, for custom projects, homebrew lore, and FR history discussions. That is FAR more needed then a mechanics board. Whenever I wanted an answer to a mechanical question, I went over to the D&D boards. Now that D&D and FR rules are identical, there is absolutley NO reason to place a mechanics board here. For general FR questions or discussion, the general boards would still be plenty busy. So what brain surgeon decided that 99% of what goes on here should be in one board, and 1% in the other? ![]() |

But, things that are not Forgotten Realms specific are sent to other boards via my say so (and, believe it or not, this happens with some regularity). Being as that it'll be geared to being very generic- for example, ideas for spells, questions about weapons, rule questions all will belong there- I hope it will get about as much traffic as the Realmslore board. Stupid board seperation - the game mechanics stuff was THE slowest moving board before (Arms and Equipment). All the other boards that existed before will still fall under the 'general' category, which is already far to busy. -That was only Arms and Equipment. The Forgotten Realms Mechanics board will be where you go to ask D&D-related questions, no matter what the subject. How to rework the Bladesinger, how spell so-and-so used, a question with the rules, all will belong there. I could care less about a mechanical board - what I want to see is an FR 'lore' board, for custom projects, homebrew lore, and FR history discussions... -That is going to be the Realmslore section. | #200lord_karsusJun 14, 2008 13:51:40 | -This is how they'll be broken down, and described, I am envisioning: Realmslore: Discuss the lands of Faerûn, a place of great heroes and stark evil, encompassing lands of magic, mystery and high peril. Realms Mechanics: Discuss the D&D terms, issues, concepts and rules that encompass the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. |

| #202merrikcaleJun 15, 2008 21:48:22 | At least it's something. I'm content with it. As am I. we certainly needed a second board. The biggest question was how to split. This is the most logical way, but its certainly not even, The lore will have at least 75% of traffic I think, but what other way was there. There really should be 3 boards: mechanics and lore somehow split in 2. But lets see how this plays out. Perhaps once the 4e FR book is out there will be more mechanical stuff going on |
| #203lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 21:57:41 | As am I. we certainly needed a second board. The biggest question was how to split. This is the most logical way, but its certainly not even, The lore will have at least 75% of traffic I think, but what other way was there. -If one board or the other (or both, theoretically) have traffic that continues to meet the criterion for splitting them (heavy [50+/Day] traffic), there can theoretically be a third or fourth board. Though, I personally find this unlikely. -I, too, am a bit uneasy splitting things between 'Lore' and 'Mechanics', but that is what the majority wanted, and truthfully, that does seem the easiest way to split things. The problem I see is that, technically, while Forgotten-Realms related, much of the Mechanics stuff technically can belong in the generic D&D boards. But, when it all happens, we'll see how things work out. |
| #204rauricJun 15, 2008 22:59:21 | One board of constant argueing and bickering was good enough for me. |
| #205lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 23:07:49 | One board of constant argueing and bickering was good enough for me. -Well, that's not how it works. The Forgotten Realms boards exceeded the criteria to split a forum by a large margin, and thus, they are thankfully being split. As I was a proponent of before the boards were even split, there was too much actual activity for a single thread, and 2-3 was best. |
| #206Mr_MiscellanyJun 15, 2008 23:23:37 | As I was a proponent of before the boards were even split, there was too much actual activity for a single thread, and 2-3 was best. I've watched your "work" over on the Forum Watch thread and I appreciate you helping to get the FR Forum growing into the right size. -No problem. That said, where do Realms DMs fit in? ;) -Depends on the question. If it's something regarding rules, then that'd be the mechanics section. If it has to do with history/lore, then the lore section. -Did you read the PM I responded to you, by the way? |

| #215TheriseJun 24, 2008 7:37:03 | Well, one thing that could be done for the mechanics forum could be this: For Ed Greenwood's posts at Candlekeep about his personally-crafted unique poisons, mushrooms, special little details on that order, someone could theoretically re-post them here with a "translation" of how they would work in 4E rules. Although in a sense that would be partly lore and partly mechanics... it still might increase the posting count in the mechanics forum. |
| #216lord_karsusJun 24, 2008 7:43:26 | -If someone wants to do that, it'd certainly be mechanics. -Anything, truthfully, is going to be related to Realmslore in one way or another. The way to "separate" where to post things would be by intent. For example, sure, discussion about Bladesingers would be inherently related to Realmslore. But, in my thread, I am attempting to better stat them out as a class, so that'd go in the "Running the Realms" section, not the "Realmslore" section. |

The last week has yielded lower numbers than what the forums were demonstrating. G0 and the rest of CM is quite aware of that, however, and the issue has been already raised. While we don't think for them, it is wholly likely that, being as that they have brains, the numbers for the past week will be viewed with an imaginary asterisk attached, like Barry Bonds' single-season Home Run Record in the Baseball Hall of Fame. |
