A Grand History of the Realms?

Dec 08, 2008 22:39:45 I remember something about a timeline with all the major events of the realms up to the Spellplague being posted some time just before the release of the FRCG. Does anyone happen to have a link to this timeline? I don't remember where it was located...

Yes lets no forget about used artwork! ;) The rest is great, but the used artwork makes it even better! :D

Dec 09, 2008 13:02:29 -Especially Storm Silverhand, polymorphed to look just like the picture of whatever/whoever that was. That was a classic. Better than the Dragon rebuilding himself in the form of a Warforged.

Like, a timeline of the realms or something like that... does nothing like that exist? Just a basic timeline. A set of dates with a short one line description of the key event that happened in that year?

Try Googling, restricted to the www.wizards.com domain. There's all sorts of old stuff floating around on the older editions Wizards site that they barely link to and have almost forgotten about these days. (Probably should save all the good stuff before they do something about it.)

I still use the original AGHotR. It has the complete Roll Of Years, and references source books for all the events.

-Agreed. I'm not going to say that I like the .PDF better than the physical book, but...Well, it's pretty close. The print version does have some extra entries not present in the .PDF file (I don't care too much for the 'columns'. Many of them, I have trouble reading, because of the color and/or font), so...

Dec 14, 2008 2:51:14 You're not missing out on any actual history. Everything in the PDF is reprinted word-for-word in the book, and often expanded, and there's a lot of new stuff too.

But the PDF, if you have a copy, is useful to keep on your computer as a companion to the book. It has references for each event in the timeline (ie the sourcebook it came from), and color-codes for different regions (Old Empires, or Kara-Tur, etc).

There's also the complete Roll Of Years, and BRJ's not-quite-canon prehistoric theories about Creator Races and Abeir-Toril's continent drift, neither of which made it into the book.

Dec 14, 2008 12:02:51 While doing some Internet-searching recently for events about certain locales, I came across at least two copies of the pdf being hosted... illegally. I'm sure neither one of them had Brian's permission, nor WotC's now that they own it.

However, I would recommend having both - the printed version has plenty of stuff that wasn't in the Free one, and the Free one was color-coded concerning areas of interest, and included all the original sources the info could be found in. I think one compliments the other, so you should try to get both (and DO BUY a copy of the printed version!!!)

Trust me... its worth every penny.

You know, as annoying as that was when it came out, I just laugh now when I come across the pic of the warforged... that's supposed to be a dragon.
