A good focus might be a horn or trumpet.

Eitherway nice spell.

-Building on Suin's idea, perhaps a horn/trumpet and a piece of metal of the Metallic Dragon to be summoned? Or, a horn/trumpet made of the metal that the Metallic Dragon represents?

Could approach it from another direction and use a gemstone favored by the type of dragon being summoned worth a certain gp amount. Think I might add the [good] descriptor as well, considering that they're always good in alignment under 3e, which I presume this is for.

Seems like a decent spell to me... something of a higher level and improved variant of Mordenkainen's Faithful Hound, if I'm recalling that spell correctly.

Okay, I've done a bit of revision. Hope you guys like the Spell Set! ^_^

SARIA’S SPECTRAL SENTRY
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 7
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: Phantom sentry that protects
Duration: 1 hour/caster level or until discharged; 1 round/caster level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

You conjure up a phantom humanoid that appears as a large armored knight wielding a huge sized greatsword but is it invisible to everyone but yourself. It then guards the area where it was conjured (it does not move). If any small or larger creature approaches within 60 feet of it, the Sentry immediately commands the creature via telepathy to turn back or die. If the intruder continues to approach, when they come within 30 feet, the sentry emits a warning shout (as a 7th level paladin). If the intruder approaches to within 5 of the sentry, the sentry immediately engages the foe in melee, delivering a vicious attack with its huge sized greatsword (+14 attack bonus, 4d6+7 points of slashing damage) once per round.

The sentry sees invisible and ethereal creatures. It does not react to figments, but it does react to shadow illusions. The sentry is considered ready to attack intruders, so it delivers its first attack on the intruder’s turn. Its huge greatsword is the equivalent of a magic weapon for the purpose of damage reduction. The sentry cannot be attacked, but it can be dispelled. The spell lasts for 1 hour per caster level, but once the Sentry emits the warning shout, it lasts only 1 round per caster level. If the caster is ever more than 100 feet distant from the sentry, the spell ends.

Material Component
A small silver bell worth at least 10 gp, a piece iron from a broken sword, and a piece of string.

SARIA’S SCALED SERVANT
Conjuration (Good, Summoning) [see text]
Level: Sorcerer/wizard 9
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./ level)
Effect: One summoned metallic dragon
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

You conjure a metallic dragon (of your choosing) with a HD equal to 23 or less. It appears at the spot you designate and acts immediately on your turn, attacking your opponents to the best of its ability. If you speak the metallic dragon’s language and are close enough to communicate with it, you can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions. The dragon can’t be summoned into an environment hostile to it in any way (for example, you couldn’t summon a adult silver dragon underneath a lake of lava or a mature adult copper dragon underwater). When you use a summoning spell to summon an metallic dragon with the air, earth, fire, or water subtype, it becomes a spell of that type.

Arcane Material Component
A scale from a metallic dragon (the type of metallic dragon the scale is from does not affect the spell in any way)

Focus
A small trumpet made of platinum worth at least 4,000 gp.

SARIA’S SACRED SHIELD
Abjuration (good)
Level: Sorcerer/wizard 8
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Personal
Effect: One magical shield which absorbs damage
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell creates a shield of translucent force and lasts for 1 minute per caster level (up to a maximum of 20 minutes). The shield does not intercept attacks but rather it transfers the damage dealing properties of an attack to itself and away from the caster of the spell. The shield absorbs 4 points of damage per caster level (up to a maximum of 80) done to the caster or it’s equipment. Once the shield stops that much damage, it collapses and disappears. The damage can be from any source, including both physical and magical sources.

Material Component
A piece of steel from a broken shield.

Focus
A shard of platinum (worth at least 3,000 gp).

You might want to specify how it deals with mystical attacks that don't attack the caster directly but may dominate or compel him to act or not act. Or if an attack does both damage and compel does the compulsion still effect the caster or is it to blocked with the damage. Etc, etc.

P.S. And what does the subtype "Good" have to do with anything. When labeled good I would expect it to have some sort of barring in the description and function of the spell. Such as it's extra resistanet/vunerable to evil spells/attacks. I know it fits the flavor in lore, but I believe it should also fit the flavor in the specs in some way. Ex: you could give a CL bonus to good casters, and a CL penilty for evil casters. +2 CL when cast by a character with any Good alignment, -2 CL when cast by any character with an Evil alignment, and when cast by a neutral character the CL is unaffected.

-That would prevent "evil" characters from casting it, would it not? As in, characters who (for 'evil' reasons) cannot cast spells with the 'Good' Descriptor.

hm.. that sounds familer. I wasn't sure though. I thought it had more of a bearing in the spells function too. I'll go look it up real quick.. be back shortly.

The only thing I can find close on the SRDonline is...

Most of these descriptors have no game effect by themselves, but they govern how the spell interacts with other spells, with special abilities, with unusual creatures, with alignment, and so on."

As far as I recall, that restriction only applied to clerics castings divine spells with an alignment descriptor.

-There's that, and there's also 'Vile' and 'Exalted' Magic. Those two are polar extremes, but...There's also various Prestige Classes that would do that, I believe.

Thanks for all the posts.

What kind of specific wording would you like to see?

I'm not sure as I don't know how the spell deals with this problem. Does it still negate the damage and let the compulsion take effect?

Got rid of the sacred shield spell. Here's another custom made spell:

Ainnet’s Angelic Ascension
Abjuration (Good)
Level: Sor/Wiz 8
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Effect: Various defensive enchantments on the caster
Target: You
Duration: 1 minute/per level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

The caster of this spell gains the following for the duration of the spell:

The caster gains a +4 sacred bonus to Constitution.

The caster gains a +4 sacred bonus to Dexterity

The caster gains a +2 sacred bonus to AC.

The caster gains damage reduction 10/evil against ranged weapons.

The caster is excluded from all spell effects of 3rd level or lower cast by those who are not the caster of this spell. Excluded effects include spell-like abilities and spells or spell-like effects from items. Spells of 4th level and higher cast by those who are not the caster of this spell affect the caster of this spell normally.

Material Component
A good sized feather from the wing of a celestial worth at least 100 gp.

Focus
A amount of diamond dust worth at least 100 gp.

Let me know what you guys think.

Unless a class or PrC specifically states somewhere that it has the restriction, then it does not. A generalist Wizard may cast whatever he likes - it's more about intent with them, anyway.

Good aligned clerics cannot use evil spells, or ones from the necromantic domain, unless otherwise allowed by their specific deity. No such limitations were put on evil clerics though - they could cast good and evil spells to their heart's content (which is why I always found it the most-useful to run Neutral priests).

But as was already stated, you needn't worry about any of that for an arcane caster.

I would drop the material component, spruce it up a little and make it a sanctified spell rather than good.

But, what do I know.
