The latest DDI article in this series is available here, focusing on Akanul, Tymanther and the East Rift.

This just tried to be too weird for its own good to be honest. I don't think anyone I know would ever use those paragon paths or options.

There are going to be a lot of hybrid characters created, especially when PH3 hits the shelves - this gives them some specific support. Also, I love quirky feats that give an interesting benefit other than "+1 to this defense" or "add this effect". Stuff like Chondalwood Mystic or Ruinspoke Scrounger.

A good, interesting article. Certainly something that there should be more of. However, as noted in the DDi thread, I would have liked to see further support for regions without current background before page-space was given to expanding ones we already have.

I do see your point, but thus far I run four different campaigns and I've only seen a single hybrid character. This may change with PHB 3 (maybe) but I am not really seeing a lot of them at the moment. A hybrid Sorcerer/Barbarian of the options presented is really the only that is in anyway actually viable, which is part of the problem.
