Any lore on post-Spellplague Beregost or Nashkel?

After the Bhaalspawn crisis, the poisoning of the iron in the Nashkel mines, and the flooding of the Cloakwood mines, did the region ever recover economically?  I can't seem to find anything canon that says what happened in the decades before the Spellplague.  Most of the haughty misers and prospectors in Beregost had their investments in the mines, and the rest were filthy-rich merchants from the Gate with "summer homes" away from the city.  With the mines kaput, I couldn't see anyone wanting to stick around.  And if the money left the area, then so did the sword-arms.  The Flaming Fist's jurisdiction didn't extend that far south, and I can't rememebr Amnish guards ever being posted in Beregost.  Hired mercenaries entirely responsible for keeping the region clean.  Without the rich there to pay, I'm sure the mercenraies left in a hurry too.

If that logic pullls through, then the entire region from the Friendly Arm to the Cloud Peaks must have been uncivilized.  Maybe some fatkat guildmaster in Athkatla would have gotten tired of his shipments being delayed along Trade Way by monsters and bandits and put forth the coin to flush out the entire area, but the Spellplague hit first.

On that note, does anyone have any idea what happened to that region after the Plague hit?

Well I havnt read anything about it in the 4e FRCG, but that doesnt necesarily mean that its gone. The general rule is that if they dont specifically say that something is destroyed then we are to assume that its still there, and I havnt found anything saying that Beregost is destroyed.

But then again they leave things vague on purpose giving DMs more freedom to make stuff up, so really its how ever you want to play it. Makes perfect sense for the area to be uncivilized, or maybe on the verge of becoming civilzed again, after all theres still merchants and trade going on in the Realms, and that is a pretty important tradeway.

In my campaigns, Beregost hasn't changed much. It's a little bigger, as people from Baldur's Gate spread out from the city to other smaller towns and it's been doing wonders for it's market/trade district. But along with more people always comes higher crime and Beregost has been fighting a growing thief/assassin/poisoner guild as of late. They need heroes, badly, to take out the growing menace that wants to make Beregost a center for all slave trade to the East and South and be a haven for criminals escaping Athkatla and Baldur's Gate. They've also had their sights set on taking the political area or at least, blackmailing them enough to keep the politicians in their pockets.

Has anything changed in the last eight month about lore on Beregost? *still hoped for it*

As far as I recall, Beregost largely existed to support those visitors congregating at Candlekeep.  So long as Candlekeep is intact and functional, its a good bet that Beregost shall remain so as well.  The mines, as far as I recall, were simply a supplementary source of income, not the primary one.

As to mines, once the mines were cleared and the villains slain, the poisoning of the iron ceased, so I see little reason why long term economic strife might ensue there.  Perhaps in Nashkel it persisted a little bit longer, but presumably the Amnians would either send in their own troops or hire adventurers to clear them for them.  Once it was known it was kobolds and some merchants trying so screw them over, I have little doubt that the Amnians would react extremely poorly and get the situation resolved post haste.

Now in regards to the post-Spellplague period... I haven't the foggiest notion what the area might be like now, as I pay no attention to the 4e Realms.  However, having said that, if Candlekeep is still there, the area is probably unchanged from its pre-Spellplague condition, with pockets of civilization surrounded by wilderness (like most of Faerun was really).  If Candlekeep isn't there, it's still probably in the same condition really, presuming Amn and Baldur's Gate maintain a trade road between them.  Ultimately though, its your Realms to do what you wish with it, so make it however fits your ideas best.

Thanks a lot!
I thought about a campaign arround Beregost for a long time now. Volo's Guide named a barriered way down into the Underdark under the smuggler's warehouse in The Red Sheaf. The Spellplague could rip the barrier apart and open a way into the darkness.
If I am not wrong the town lies at the edge of Throrgar, which itself provide lots of adventure hooks.
Or have I missed something crutial?

Nothing has been written on it as of the Post Spellplague era that I know of. Could be written somewhere in a novel but I'm not sure. As for the passage to the Underdark, that's news to me but I've very few 2e material to draw on and again, if it hasn't been mentioned in a change then it's still there.

The campaign Idea sounds very plausable and I don't see any problems with it.

I'm guessing you're referring to Torglor, from Deep Shanatar, under the Snowflake Mountains?  If so, it could make for interesting actually, given the gith presence and the rumored existance of the anti-illithid armory.  I don't know of any other really detailed sources on the area, so I can't think of anything crucial that you've missed.

If you're into that stuff, of course, which actually I'm not as it reminds me far too much of HP Lovecraft, whom I'm not a big fan of, but hey, if it works for you...

the deal with beregost and the friendly arm inn in 4e is as follows.
a: and this is the most important, both sites are along a trade route, that trade route is still active.
b: as already said with candlekeep and th freindly arm inn.

both locations are likely still active, and the gnomes that ran the place are likely still active and kicking in their retirment from adveturning running the inn, though their children might runn a good deal of it now

Ehm...nope, I truly mean Throrgar, the Shrieking Abyss of the Lowerdark underneath the Chionthar Vale. ^^ It's possible portals to Pandemonium are very interesting storywise.
Thinking about the PCs fighting against a smuggler ring from Amn and stumbling over the passage towards the Underdark and an old temple linked to Erythnul and Corytus.
Eventually I intent to use destroyed Ulcaster mage school for further story hooks.

Hmmm... can't say I'm familiar with it.  Though the Lowerdark stuff isn't something I ever paid much attention to, so I guess that shouldn't be surprising.  Otherwise though, it sounds like it could be an intriguing plot line to explore.  Good luck with it.
