| #1suneskissesMar 19, 2008 15:25:21 | I was reading some of my fav chapters of my FR books the other day, bored at home. Anyways, Can anyone tell me what the hell this fire is? Mystra has Silverfire, Shar has a Dark or Void Fire, Slune has a MoonFire, Sune I guess is Crimson or gold fire, Some of the gods and Goddess have this power that they give to there high preist or chosen, what the hell is it? Sorry about the short and choppy sentences, running late to work. |
| #2lord_karsusMar 19, 2008 17:43:57 | -Here are some very brief definitions that should help things a bit:
|
| #3StiggerMar 19, 2008 18:20:05 | If it wasn't mentioned in Magic of Faerun, I don't buy Darkfire as being "real" to anyone but DMs choosing to make it so. |
| #4old_sageMar 19, 2008 19:14:49 | Ed has said that there is no Shadow Weave version of Spellfire, just renderings that might "look" like Spellfire... but it is not Spellfire. From Ed:- "Shar CAN grant her followers corrupted versions of the same powers Mystra gives, but darkfire and the like are mere shadows of Mystra’s boons, not equivalents. So, there’s no “dark” version of spellfire or the silver fire, despite the claims of Shar or her clergy to the contrary, just inferior unleashings." |
| #5alleranMar 19, 2008 19:27:06 | IIRC, Ed also mentioned that Spellfire "rends" Shadow Weave magic just as fast if not faster than it does regular Weave-based magic. It is quite versatile, but not as strong, in terms of raw power, as Spellfire. In Hand of Fire, that Netherese ghost was able to absorb spellfire, but he himself admitted that he was incapable of doing the same to silver fire. I'd say that silver fire has the advantage, personally. |

| #7lord_karsusMar 19, 2008 20:49:25 | "Shar CAN grant her followers corrupted versions of the same powers Mystra gives, but darkfire and the like are mere shadows of Mystra’s boons, not equivalents. After all, Spellfire is simply a "refined" and "concentrated" form of Raw Magic. Silverfire is simply a "refined" and "concentrated" form of Weave Magic. There's no reason to say that Darkfire isn't a "refined" and "concentrated" form of Shadow Weave Magic. |
| #8suneskissesMar 19, 2008 23:21:41 | In the Lady P Novels. Vhaeraun's clerics had a Darkfire, I guessed it to be something that is similiar to Slune's Moonfire... hmmm Maybe. This could be something that every deity may grant, a raw blast of energy to the chosen few for times of trouble or something. Would make since to me that it could happen. Any thoughts... |

Vhaeraun's clerics had a Darkfire, I guessed it to be something that is similiar to Slune's Moonfire... hmmm Maybe. -Darkbolt is a Clerical spell, that a Cleric of Vhaeraun would no doubt have prepared. This could be something that every deity may grant, a raw blast of energy to the chosen few for times of trouble or something. Would make since to me that it could happen. Any thoughts... -Why would, say, Eldath, grand her Chosen the ability to release a blast of magical energy? Asides for being pacifistic, she has no inherent connections to magic, or the Weave. Or Tempus? Or Gruumsh? And so on. -Mystra is the Weave, to explain Silverfire, and, should one want Darkfire, Shar is the steward of the Shadow Weave. |
| #10suneskissesMar 19, 2008 23:51:02 | aww I see what u mean... got it |
| #11lord_karsusMar 20, 2008 1:05:17 | aww I see what u mean... got it -There are plenty of non-official Chosen templates. There's a thread around here somewhere, filled with them. Most people choose an element the deity in question has soverignty over, and then expand on that. For example, Torm is the deity of Paladins. A Chosen of Torm would have some kind of special ability related to that. Perhaps Holy Word, or something to that effect. A Chosen of Sune? Maybe the ability to Charm people at will. |
| #12StiggerMar 20, 2008 1:08:06 | You could probably reason out to let Eldath have some strange ' fire' like ability as something of a patroness of Druidic magic given her dominion over druid groves and the like... one could probably find lots of rationales for that sort of stuff though. Personally, I say leave it as ambiguous as possible to leave us DMs more room to play with as far as the deities are concerned. |
