I intend to GM a somewhat different kind of adventure and for this I thought an underwater/amphibious one would be a good take. Do you know if there is a good adventure of this kind in FR? Or in another D&D setting? I would love to have a sunken city, underwater caverns, some sharks or kraken, some mermen, maybe sahaguins or Kuo-toas. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I once ran a campaign set entirely under the Sea of Fallen Stars, with Myth Nantar as the party's "base of operations". I don't think there's a published Forgotten realms adventure set entirely or mostly underwater, but the 2nd edition book Sea of Fallen Stars has lots of info about the races and locales in the sea, and lots of plot hook, too.

Otherwise, the last chapter of Stormwrack, in 3.5, has a bunch of mini-adventures set at sea or underwater. They're not enough for a whole campaign, but each can easily fill one or two gaming sessions, or used as a hook to build a greater adventure. And they wouldn't be hard to set in an aquatic Realms campaign. I know I've used two of those adventures in my games already.

-Sea of Fallen Stars is THE book for undersea anything, concerning the Forgotten Realms. 191 pages of everything you could possibly need- how time is kept track of, how different depths of the ocean change things (movement, vision, etc.), equipment, races, currency, places, and a whole lot more.

-Concerning locales, there's just as many places underwater that would be good places above the water. Netherese ruins? Check. Elven ruins? Check. Haunted wastelands? Check. Barbaric, near cannibalistic CE things that want to kill you? Check. Wizard cabals? Check.

While Sea of Fallen Stars is indeed the most awesome supplement for aquatic adventure in the Realms, you might also enjoy Pirates of the Fallen Stars, which is full of piratey goodness and all sorts of nautical lore.

There is also an aquatic adventure, The Wyrmskull Throne that is very good as well. It is written by Steven Schend and takes place under the Sea of Fallen Stars. Might be exactly what you are looking for.

Cloak & Dagger has some information on the Kraken Society and Slarkrethel, their Kraken leader. I think there is also a little bit on them in Lords of Darkness as well. That could provide your group a recurring villain to plague the party and draw them in to a tangled web of aquatic hijinx.

Then, for some more aquatic adventure ideas you might read the Threat from the Sea trilogy of novels (Rising Tide, Under Fallen Stars, and Sea Devil's Eye, by Mel Odom) as well as the short story collection Realms of the Deep, which I happened to enjoyed very much.

As mentioned above, Stormwrack really is a very good 3.5e supplement for aquatic adventure. It is not Realms specific, but it has tons of ideas, monsters and tools that can help you craft an aquatic campaign. It even has some mini-adventures in the back. I adopted the sea-hag adventure for one of my storylines in my ongoing FR campaign and it went over well with the players.

The realms has lots of little islands in the Sea of Swords and in the Sea of Fallen Stars that can provide all manner of Sinbad style adventures, where you land on an island and find a pirate cove, or a lost temple, or a monster lair, or a forgotten village, then sail on to the next island for another intriguing mystery. Storms can blow you off course or strand you on a flotsam-strewn beach. Whirlpools can drag your ship down into the depths. One-way portals can transport you to aquatic locales beneath the waves.

Sounds like your group has a lot of fun in store, happy sailing!

There were some adventurehooks and info pieces in some of the older Dragons, but I can't remember which numbers. Some of the stuff was placed around the Pirate Isles and the like. Was not really underwater, but maybe some good DM can mix it and make a good start from them (like being swept aboard during some pirate attack, or going after treasures on the isles and sunken ships). I believe they were called Savage Tidings. They all were general things but inspired by different settings, some Planescape others in the FR ...

Edit:
Got it, was in Dragon 355 about a place called Scuttlecove and there was more about it in Dungeon 146 (which I do not have, but it is mentioned in the Dragon).

Also in Dragon 355 was something about the cult of Dagon in Faerûn, how he got control over the Sharlarin and the like. That's the more interesting part, since it gives a game down there a dark and evil touch and besides that a connection via some gate to Maztica and the sea around it.

Who? Sammaster? Enterprizes in Maztica and its surrounding waters?
Damn the transatlantic trade slowdown. Here in Holland I never even saw the last Dragon magazines.

Might try aquiring a pdf of the last Dragon at Paizo much later.

Anyhow, Stormwrack is the best of the environment series 3.5 books. Highly recommend it for inspiring you to make memorable sea adventures.
I used a merman sorcerer once to escort my pc's and their ship in a giant bubble right through the cavernous tunnels known as Labrands Folly, the supposed canal connecting the Shining sea with the Great Sea that crossed right under the mountains of Thindol. Lots of nice splashy spells that can be usefull to lead players to splendid vistas and environments for them to explore.

-I don't have the magazine in question, so I don't know what was in there, but the novel Queen of the Depths dealt very much with the same issue, with the Cult of the Dragon, and Sharlarin. The two might be related, if you've read the novel.

The wookie ah FR wiki has the story behind this cult in its entry of Dagon:

Take a look under the part History.
