| #1lirdolinAug 14, 2008 14:57:40 | I and my players dislike the pseudo-biblical names of many Archdevils. As the core deities are not found in the realms why should the Archdevils be the core ones? So I want to make up a new name-list that sounds a little more 'Realmsian' (current form below). I intend to introduce these 'new' Archdevils in a planar event in 1480 DR: The Hellstorm. During this conflict the 'core archdevils' are replaced. Are there any more Archdevils of 'realmsian' origin that could fill the blanks/would be more fitting? Comments or Suggestions? Thanks for the help. Best wishes Lirdolin Archdevils of Faerun * Duchess Zariel (Kills her tormentor Bel, who feasted upon her flesh, not knowing that in the end Zariel would transform his body into her new form) * Lord Nergal (Former Captor of Elminster, returned during the Spellplague, kills Dispater) * XXX (Mammon) * Countess Sarya and Fierna (The revived fey'ri, sponsored by Malkizid, takes Belials place and strengthens herself via her new slave Fierna) [This assumes that Fey'ri still were created by the intermingling of Succubi and Sunelves making them by 4e terms half-devils or devil-blooded tieflings. Although I do know that Sarya was the child of a Balor (still demon), that could be easily retconned. Any official info on this would also be welcome.] * XXX (Levistus) * Glasya Malcanthet, Queen of the Succubi (Glasya helped to betray her father Asmodeus to Gargauth) * Bhaal Lord of Murder (a former Bhaalspawn, not the reborn god, destroyes Baalzebul) * Malkizid, the Branded King (from the Last Mythal series, kills Mephistopheles) * Gargauth, Lord of the Pit (already killed Asmodeus during the Spellplague and took his stuff, masking as Asmodeus he killes Azuth, becoming a Greater God. Prepared the Hellstorm to take revenge on his old enemies.) |

Considering that Balors and Pit Fiends 'switched places' (someone correct me if I'm wrong) this probably makes the most sense anyway from the standpoint of making do with 4th Edition rules/core information. Incidentally, I'd say that Fierna better parallels Malcanthet than Glasya does, if you're going to go down that route. |

They didn't switch places, if by that you mean that Balors became devils and Pit Fiends became demons. Devils are just generally more humanlike in appearance, and the pit fiend looks a lot more humanoid now, if that is what you are getting at (which I think it is). I agree that, under this new paradigm, fey'ri might work better as a devil-elf mix rather than a demon-elf mix. What it means to be a demon or a devil is entirely different now. |

| #8lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 17:14:03 | -To replace Levistus: Perhaps Ulitiu wakes from his sleep, find out that some bad stuff happened to Othea (He loved her, right?), and makes a pact with the infernal powers to track down and destroy whoever harmed his former lover. In doing so, he is tricked out of his divinity, but still exists as a powerful entity, as an Archdevil. |

What it means to be a demon or a devil is entirely different now. Sunelves were always more inclined towards lawful behavior than chaotic, so devils would have always made more sense than devils. |

I'm probably thinking of some of the things the designers talked about when they first announced that demons and devils were changing. It was probably an example given, where they later decided to alter the existing monsters instead of switching them. |

Indeed! ![]() I like the aforementioned Biblical names, but that said I rather like your take on the devils. ![]() |
| #12umbralknightAug 15, 2008 15:27:07 | Sunelves were always more inclined towards lawful behavior than chaotic, so devils would have always made more sense than devils. True. But in the past, the law/chaos difference, and the derived differences in personality and method, were the only real difference between demons and devils. Evil outsider vs evil outsider. Now you have fallen Immortal beings who are largely humanoid (devils), and corrupted Elemental beings who are very un-humanoid (demons). The succubus has switched sides, and I doubt its even possible for a demon and a mortal to have offspring anymore. Perhaps what I'm getting at is that having fey'ri as demon/elf crossbreeds no longer makes sense. |
| #13lirdolinAug 15, 2008 15:49:01 | Thanks for the help so far to all fo you ![]() Here's a revised list: Archdevils of Faerun After the Hellstorm (1480 DR) ° Duchess Zariel Killed her tormentor Bel, who feasted upon her flesh, not knowing that in the end Zariel would transform his body into her new form, a huge female pitfiend. Rules Avernus. ° Lord Nergal Former Captor of Elminster, returned during the Spellplague, killed Dispater. Rules Dis. The centre of the realm is now dominated by a gigantic ziggurat, as Nergal was once part of the vanished untheric pantheon as a dark god of the underworld. ° Lord Laduguer The Vestige of the slain duergar-god is elevated to archdevil status by Gargauth for bringing a large force of duergar under the devils sway. Replaces Mammon. Rules the now mountainous realm of Gloomforge, the former Minauros. ° Countess Sarya Dlardrageth * The revived fey'ri, sponsored by Malkizid, took over Belials former realm after Fierna left for Malbolge. Rules the former Phlegethos, now called Dlardra, a realm of hellish forests, from which obsidian cities rise skywards ° Ulitiu the Frozen Wrath** The Primordial Ulutiu was roused from his sleep during the Spellplague. His awakening was noticed by Auril the Frostmaiden who wrested Ulitius Necklace from him and maintained the Great Glacier with it, boosting her own power. The ailing Ulitiu was approached by Gargauth with promises of revenge for the theft and the death of his lover Othea. Ulitiu agreed to lend his remaing power to the dark god’s cause, but forgot that freeing him was never part of the deal. Ulitiu, still frozen in a block of ice, replaced Levistus. He now uses his legions to fulfill his dreams of revenge on the gods (including Gargauth who tricked him). Rules Stygia. ° Fierna Malcanthet, Queen of the Succubi and Glasya Fierna helped to betray her father Belial to Gargauth, takes Glasya’s place, takes the former ruler as her new slave-consort and drains strength from her. Rules Shendilavri , the former Malbolge ° Bhaal, Lord of Murder A former Bhaalspawn, not the reborn god, destroyed Baalzebul. Rules Maladomini. ° Malkizid, the Branded King (See Last Mythal series) The former Exarch of Corellon and exiled Archdevil killed Mephistopheles. Rules Cania. ° Gargauth, Lord of the Pit Gargauth killed Azuth at the beginning of the Spellplague and shortly after secretly slew Asmodeus, becoming a Greater God. Masking as Asmodeus, Gargauth prepared the Hellstorm to take revenge on his old enemies.Rules Nessus. *[This assumes that fey'ri still were created by the intermingling of succubi and sunelves making them by 4e terms half-devils or devil-blooded tieflings. Although I do know that Sarya was the child of a Balor (still demon), that could be easily retconned. Any official info on this would also be welcome.] **[Assumes that he will not be mentioned by the new campaign-setting as still be frozen under the Great Glacier] Best Wishes Lirdolin |
