Jan 21, 2009 23:07:56 Another question, this one entirely lore-based. I've been trying to find more information on the Armathors, but what I've been able to track down hasn't really told me all that much. An entry in Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves mentions that the generic armathor is typically a wizard or fighter/wizard, but that bards and bladesingers are rare among them. I'm still combing the book, but I was hoping someone else could shed some light on them, or at least point me in the right direction.

Jan 22, 2009 0:19:36 Heh, thanks. I found that, as well as a mention of two halfling Armathors. Other than those tidbits, though, I'm having a hard time finding much of anything, save that they were defenders of the Coronal.

Jan 22, 2009 0:27:40 Lord Karsus or one of the other elven lore experts may know more, but I believe that there were armathors described in the novel Elminster in Myth Drannor. Perhaps not, my memory sometimes fails.

Jan 22, 2009 1:48:41 Don't think much more has been said in sourcebooks really... maybe the Fall of Myth Drannor mentioned them a bit more, but its been a good long while since I looked at that one.

Jan 22, 2009 4:19:21 They are essentially elven knights, except it wasn't a matter of classes, so much as a title one gained from service to Cormanthyr, at least as far as I recall.

I do believe that Stig is correct and that there is nothing more special than a title with them. Other than Myth Drannor, I've seen or heard nothing of them since. Which lends credence.

Jan 22, 2009 14:39:58 The title itself has come down through time from the original Pozi Empire that once held sway in the far north, before the Sundering changed time.

That human Empire had defenders of the Realm - great heroes all - called Arms of Thor. During the brief period of time that empire allied with the early Elven Kingdoms against the Dragons, several Elves earned the distinction of being called Arms of Thor by the fierce Northmen, for their valor and martial prowess.

Turn the clock forward a few thousand years, and the mighty Pozi Empire is no more, and a new powerful Empire is on the rise - that of the Vyshaantar. The defenders of the Realm are known as Armathor - a debased version of the earlier human title.

Although the Vyshaantar eventually fell as well, the term 'Armathor' became part of the Elven language, and it's origins are lost in the mists of time.

Of course, I just made all of that up... but I like doing that just to make LK nuts. :P

Jan 22, 2009 14:56:14 I tend to mix my own extrapolations with real lore quite a bit, and it sometimes confuses people - I usually only do it in the 'Netbook' threads, since we are trying build on the existing lore there, not limit ourselves to it.

However, that last bit was just pure BS because I'm in a good mood. :D
