| #1IluvrienOct 09, 2009 5:37:08 | Is it just me or are the Dragon and Dungeon offerings for this month pretty thin... or entirely absent? I thought Ed's column was supposed to start this month, wasn't it? |
| #2The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 6:08:00 | I dont know they got some pretty solid stuff with the Seeker and the Vistani, and the Abysal Genasi sounds interesting, but it does seem very light on Realmslore. I didnt see any Realms articles at all, unless that deities and demigods article is about a Realms god (hopefully). I'm really looking foward to Ed's articles, hopefully theyll be in next months issue? |
| #3IluvrienOct 09, 2009 6:31:32 | The Deities & Demigods article is about the Raven Queen, she is core, so definitely not FR specific. Wasn't there talk about at least one FR article a month? |
| #4Lord_ToastOct 09, 2009 6:35:06 | Dungeon isssue 171 has some FR articles. |
| #5The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 6:56:46 |
Ugh how much Raven Queen do we need? they already had the channel divinty article and she has a deity and demigod article too? They definatly need to do more info on FR gods. They got write ups for the major gods in 4e but the exarchs and lesser gods are being left out in the cold. |
| #6The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 6:58:48 |
YAY! or wait... heroes vs. Drizzt? that sounds kinda dorky. the article on Torm shows some promise, but i really wish they would focus more on the lesser gods and exarchs. |
| #7IluvrienOct 09, 2009 7:10:05 | I stand happily corrected! There is an article on Torm due on the 19th and an encounter featuring Drizzt due on the 16th. I still call that thin on the ground but I am happy to upgrade my original assessment. I was worried for a moment there that there would be no FR love this month. One thing is always better than none. Still waiting, with bated breath, for Ed's column though. |
| #8The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 7:11:54 |
Me too! |
| #918DELTAOct 09, 2009 7:51:19 | Me three! |
| #10The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 8:28:44 |
OH MY GODS! Delta you changed your avatar. It looks.... creepy |
| #11sfdragonOct 09, 2009 11:00:37 | yes the most exalted Delta now uses a shaloin monk styled image for his avatar. said image seems to me to be one of the most esteemed Dali lama ( most appologies if I mispelled it) |
| #12pamelaOct 09, 2009 11:41:15 | The most I could find out about that Greenwood column was that it was to "appear in the days ahead" according to the Gen Cen Seminar article here. I thought I saw it mentioned elsewhere and had expected it this month too. Oh well. And the Dalai Lama is definitely not creepy! |
| #13The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 21:17:43 |
OK so maybe the Dali Lama is not creepy (well i dont know, ive never met him) but seeing him as Deltas avatar when i logged on here just werided me out a bit. |
| #14sfdragonOct 09, 2009 22:08:10 | why?? |
| #15The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 22:26:55 |
Are you telling me you werent a little taken aback? I was expectin him to change his avatar to reflect his status as the Chosen of Curellon, but i wasnt expectin the Dali Lama |
| #1618DELTAOct 09, 2009 23:05:06 | I realized that His Holiness and me have alot in common. |
| #17The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 23:24:11 | Ahhhh, that makes sense. I was just a little suprised, nothing against the Dalai Lama, just wasnt expectin to see him on here. |
| #18marius4Oct 11, 2009 2:56:12 |
Loves it! ::searches for pic of world famous person to use as avatar::
What's the column supposed to focus on, again? |
| #19rauricOct 11, 2009 20:01:57 | I like the Raven Queen stuff, and I am an EB DM. I am also incorporating her into EB with little effort. Just take all of her stuff slap Kelemvors name on it (for the most part) then BAM ya got an FR article with stuff youcan use. Most of her stuff is about fighting undead anyway which Kel likes. Maybe she can be used as a demigod or Exarch of the god of the dead? |
| #20LordManshoonOct 11, 2009 20:07:28 | Maybe she can be used as a demigod or Exarch of the god of the dead? Funny. I actually created a Lesser Power goddess quite similar to the Raven Queen in my own realms. Because she doesn't have the sheer might of the RQ, though, she's a lot more dynamic, and serves Kelemvor. Whereas Kelemvor is the Judge of the Dead and Jergal is the Scribe of the Dead, my homebrew goddess is really the Reaper of Souls (though she's none too grim; she actually relishes her work, in a non-malevolent way). |
| #21rauricOct 11, 2009 20:13:24 | There ya go, pretty much the same thing as the RQ. In my EB game she will just be a very powerful EPIC NPC that some beings worship. She has the ability to capture souls that pray to her and place them away so they don't get wiped away (in EB there is no afterlife). She hates undead so her worshipers are often UD hunters. She also lives on Dol Arah (Shadowfell) and can be encountered if someone is brave and crazy enough to do so. Anyway use the articles to your own advantage and morph it to the FR with a couple of imaginative ideas and you are good to go. |
| #22askanipsionOct 11, 2009 20:37:21 |
Yeah the Raven Queen is getting way over exposed....she already has 2 races with fluff tied to her, multiple connections in modules....she is the Shar of Core.
I would like to see Sehanine or Selune get at least ONE article since they have had nothing so far. |
| #23LordManshoonOct 11, 2009 20:49:43 | Ugh how much Raven Queen do we need? they already had the channel divinty article and she has a deity and demigod article too? They definatly need to do more info on FR gods. They got write ups for the major gods in 4e but the exarchs and lesser gods are being left out in the cold. Well, I won't deny, she does seem to be hogging the spotlight a bit. I figure eventually they'll run out of steam and leave her in the dust for a while. But she's still not a nuisance of Sharran proportions, IMO.
I would like to see Sehanine or Selune get at least ONE article since they have had nothing so far. I'd like to see any FR deity get a serious article devoted to her/him. Or another regional article (of a place which existed before the Spellplague). I know the Sembia article got knocked down the rungs, but I still hope it isn't out altogether. |
| #24The_SilverswordOct 12, 2009 0:17:08 | Awww man, a Sembia article would of came in handy. I had the players go to Sembia as part of their quest. I had them to go to Saerloon. The way i see it the big Temple complex there that was dedicated to Mystra is now Shar's. I could see them keeping the Tower of Mysteries name though. I had large groups of Goliaths and Minataurs there that the Sembians use as caravan guards and what not. This let the Minataur and Goliath of the party feel a little less alienated. Every town they go to they want to know are there any other Minataurs? are there any other Goliaths? So in Saerloon i decided ok sure yeah there are. |
| #25Nai_CalusOct 12, 2009 5:08:28 | I am sick to frakkin' death of the Raven Bimbo and wish she'd go the hell away and that WotC and the fanbase would shut the heck up about her. She's stupid, she's about as 'Unaligned' as Lolth is, and I'm sick of freaking hearing about her. Cover the Core gods that don't have anything about them already, sheesh. Then again, as insipid as the CD:RQ article was, and as bad and useless as the D&Dg: Bahamut debaclearticle was, I could probably write better crap about the Core gods myself pulling stuff out of my arse. My, but I seem to have a lot of rage tonight. |
| #26The_SilverswordOct 12, 2009 9:20:33 |
Yes! I totaly agree!!! |
| #2718DELTAOct 12, 2009 14:37:01 | This is why I like the Golarion Gods. Plus Paizo doesn't fixate on on one God for years at a time. OR I could just homebrew and make my OWN Gods up. |
| #28Nai_CalusOct 12, 2009 14:51:41 | That's why if I were running 4e I'd just use the Greyhawk gods. |
| #29sfdragonOct 12, 2009 18:34:53 | Post her....
|
| #30Lord_ToastOct 13, 2009 8:55:56 |
How about starting a new thread? |
| #31rauricOct 13, 2009 10:04:41 | More than likely the reason there so much about her recently is because she is well received by fans. She is the only core god that interests me that is for certain. This can be said about Shar and the shades as well. That is why Kemp's stuff has sold so well. It is the one thing a small group of on-line fans of many hobbies cannot understand it seems. Loeb's Hulk may seem horrible but is sales are good then we will keep seeing a silly (IMO) red hulk. Now most people here probably realize this and are just venting I am sure. I am just throwing my two cents out there about the situation. |
| #32Nai_CalusOct 13, 2009 16:20:12 | I would argue, and have elsewhere, that the reason the other Core gods seem uninteresting at the moment is because we know frak-all about them, whereas they've written a ton of crap on Ms. Dull And Trite. Seriously, Core's *Corellon* bores me. What little we know of him seems stolen right off of the real Corellon Larethian, except they don't bother going into any detail on it whatsoever, have managed to make it dull and they gave him a Pointless Alignment Change that if you read what little fluff there is about him seems even MORE pointless because 'Unaligned' or not, he's basically STILL FREAKING GOOD. *facepalm* Just, dkfsdlf. Sehanine is a dull blend of Erevan Ilesere and Hanali Celanil with the moon thrown in to make it bear some vague resemblance to Sehanine, for that matter. Oh well, I hate Sehanine Moonbow anyway. Though she's STILL a better OMG DETH god than Raven Bimbo. |
| #33rauricOct 14, 2009 10:21:45 | The RQ is basically a new god ompared to some of the other Core gods which are all older D&D gods (most of them anyway). Plus perhpas they focused on her this month because of her popularity with fans and it being Halloween. |
| #34LordManshoonOct 14, 2009 10:24:41 |
And then we'll get another RQ article in December, to usher in Winter. ![]() |
| #35Nai_CalusOct 14, 2009 12:14:14 | And people still try to claim that the Raven Bimbo isn't evil. *looks at article* lulz. OK, we had the creepy disgusting fanwankfest, let's get to actually decent gods now kk. |
| #36The_SilverswordOct 14, 2009 21:17:18 |
That would be Loviatar in my book *Drools* But it would be nice to have a write up of some FR gods. Granted theres already lots of established lore there, but i would love to see an article giving write ups for the lesser gods aside from Umberlee, and how the spellplague changed the pantheon overall. Or id love to see an article on FR Bane as opposed to core Bane. I think its stupid that FR Bane uses core Banes symbol now. Is there a story behind that? I still prefer the Black Hand. And do you suppose The date of Banes return is now considered a holy day for Banites? |
| #37Nai_CalusOct 15, 2009 1:33:49 | It's probably as pointlessly stupid as Corellon Larethian now using Core Corellon's incredibly dull holy symbol now, instead of the perfectly good one he's had since 1980. |
| #38The_SilverswordOct 15, 2009 9:59:53 | What? they changed Corellons too? I missed that. I just checked, they did change it, those bastards! Maybe they thought the old one was too moony? I think the new one is alright but it looks too much like Lolths. It just seems stupid to me that a god is going to have a holy symbol for thousands of years and then decide oh you know what im gonna change it. Theyve did a good job in previous editions of keeping true to the holy symbols. They only other god i could think of that changed holy symbols between editions is Elisitraee. |
| #39sfdragonOct 15, 2009 10:23:23 | thats the shoehorn for you.though if you look at the last dragon mag or was it dungeon, one of the dudes had the old unholy symbol of Bane most foul on it
and in some of the elven/eladrin ones the crescent moon still shows. I for one still use the crescent moon.

| #40eriksdbOct 15, 2009 12:53:40 | I wanted to point out, @OP, that the Eye of Justice article that looks to be appearing on Monday is definitely a Realms article. Eytan Bernstein and I wrote it, though the schedule says "staff"--which is ironic, since neither of us is on staff at WotC. Cheers |
| #41sfdragonOct 15, 2009 14:26:33 | does it have to do with the currrent shadowbane? |
| #42IluvrienOct 15, 2009 19:52:17 | I wanted to point out, @OP, that the Eye of Justice article that looks to be appearing on Monday is definitely a Realms article. Hi Erik, that would be the Torm article, would it not? As said before, I am very pleased to see it in what I, had thought, was a dry month. Even more so now that I have found your name attached to it. Thanks! I will retain my wish that FR would see more articles though ;). |
| #43eriksdbOct 16, 2009 12:22:24 | For some obnoxious reason, the boards aren't letting me get away with copy/paste, so bear with me here! does it have to do with the current shadowbane? That would be telling . . . so I'll just go ahead and say yes. As for *what*it has to do with him, you'll have to check out the article itself. And I did indeed see the original reference to the Torm article--I was just nudging the pariticipants to generate a little buzz. You know how it is. Even more so now that I have found your name attached to it. Thanks! I'm glad you think well of my work, and I hope not to disappoint. I also share your wish, and would like to write some of those articles myself. ![]() I hope the article proves to be a well-received success. The more home runs the FR scores on DDI, the better. The Monument of the Ancients was certainly a giant leap in the right direction. Cheers |
| #44IluvrienOct 16, 2009 14:21:34 | I'm glad you think well of my work, and I hope not to disappoint. I also share your wish, and would like to write some of those articles myself. Sadly (and honestly) I only know your written work by reputation at the moment. I am a frequent reader at CK even if I do not post that much. From there, here and from the opinions of others who have read your work I have high hopes indeed. This is, however, a temporary affair as I expect Depths of Madness to drop through my letter box any day now as I ordered it a while back. I hope the article proves to be a well-received success. The more home runs the FR scores on DDI, the better. The Monument of the Ancients was certainly a giant leap in the right direction. I really hope so. Considering how abysmal the FR support was, through DDI, during the first year of release your sterling efforts are certainly appreciated! |
| #45The_SilverswordOct 16, 2009 14:54:40 | Im not real big on Torm and goody goody gods, but if Erik had a hand in writing it, its bound to be a very good read indeed. |
| #46eriksdbOct 16, 2009 15:58:41 | Sadly (and honestly) I only know your written work by reputation at the moment. I am a frequent reader at CK even if I do not post that much. And please do let me know any feedback you may have--I love hearing from readers, particularly those strongly invested in the setting. Im not real big on Torm and goody goody gods, but if Erik had a hand in writing it, its bound to be a very good read indeed. Oh, this is not a goody-goody organization, not at all. They may be *ostensibly* sworn to Torm, but . . . well, if you like the darkness, you will not be let down. Cheers |
| #47The_SilverswordOct 16, 2009 16:09:04 |
Ooohhh. Sounds very interesting. I am doubly intrigued now. |
| #48sfdragonOct 16, 2009 21:52:50 | so would I, but right now I'm facing termination so....... no article for me |
| #49pamelaOct 17, 2009 8:53:55 |
I'm really sorry to hear that, sfdragon; my sympathy and wishes that you find something else very soon. I've had the relief of being told my own position will finally be made permanent on November 1. |
| #50IluvrienOct 19, 2009 3:08:34 | Sadly. today`s article seems to have been moved to Wednesday. Let us hope that it is only delayed that far. |
| #51krownhunter07Oct 20, 2009 13:38:46 | It's good to see some of us are still interested in FR.... |
| #52IluvrienOct 20, 2009 15:36:55 | It's good to see some of us are still interested in FR... Well count me in enthusiastically on that one. It is just a shame that there doesn't seem to be much more in the way of traffic on the boards these days. |
| #53sfdragonOct 20, 2009 15:57:49 | its not just here, candlekeep as well as loremaster forums all seem to be slow |
| #54The_SilverswordOct 20, 2009 17:51:09 | We'll just have to pick up the slack. |
| #55IluvrienOct 20, 2009 18:44:12 | We'll just have to pick up the slack. That is a lot of slack... what with LK, Lady Rin, Markus T, Merrik, Dan, Alediran, Sage and co. There are more people that we have lost in the last year and to be honest they seem to have done most of the talking (Whether you actually liked what they said or not). If you are going to pick up the slack then we better get picking! |
| #56The_SilverswordOct 20, 2009 18:51:44 |
Im doing my best. It would be nice if some of the old guard would come back to us. Maybe we need some new blood? Ive been trying to get my gamin buddies on here, but theyre all too busy on their MySpace or playing WOW. |
| #57IluvrienOct 20, 2009 18:57:25 | I somehow doubt that many, if any, will return. I have a couple of Realmslore projects I might want to start but I have no idea if anyone else will be interested. I mentioned a Rulers and Governance in the Realms compilation a while back, basically a compilation of who is running what and where, for the towns, cities, regions and countries. I thought it would be a nice lore and DM resource. I have other ideas but I don't know if people are interested. Also discussions like the Cleric Power one is good, trying to make sense of the 3E to 4E conversion in a coherent (and narrative) way might bring people in as they are fodder for players and DMs alike. I don't know. |
| #58sfdragonOct 20, 2009 19:06:37 | when they though out he lore, they through out alot of fans. and all that gets released out on a hard form are core POL modules, which would have to be modified for any other setting, even more so if said item doesnt exist in said world.
I'd imagine the LFR forums get alot of usage. I could go on and rant..... but I'm getting hungry. so I'll go figure something to eat, and leave a dnd party behind |
| #59sfdragonOct 20, 2009 19:08:21 |
I'd be interested , if its a hard form as in a soft cover or hard back. otherwords, I'm picky at what i want |
| #60The_SilverswordOct 20, 2009 19:08:49 |
I for one would be very interested in that. Im very interested in anything Realmsian. They reall left a void in there as far as lore goes in 4e Realms. I like some of the changes and its interesting and all but its like all these boxed sets, source books, atlases are now all obsolete. That was always the big thing about that Realms was all the established lore, and now theyve swept most of that under the rug. Hopefully they start doing some more Realmslore articles, and im sure EDs upcoming articles will fill in some gaps. |
| #61The_SilverswordOct 21, 2009 5:47:12 | I just got done reading Erik's Eye of Justice article. Great stuff man! I was wondering what became of the Night Masks. Hopefully in a follow up article we'll get an updated map of Westgate. Note to WotC MORE FR MAPS!!!! |
| #62IluvrienOct 21, 2009 9:24:23 | Certainly worth the extra wait and in keeping with the impressive things I have heard abour your writing, Sir. Definitely enjoyable. Now if only we had a couple of these a month ;). |
| #63LordManshoonOct 21, 2009 9:36:29 |
Agreed, but to that I say: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEbMbAuAgmU&feat...
|
| #64IluvrienOct 21, 2009 13:04:19 | Agreed, but to that I say:...(Link to Dream On by Aerosmith) Well, of course it is based on a dream. I mean, since what has appeared in the magazines has not, in my opinion, resembled what we haved asked for (the backdrop survey for example) then what I feel that we are left with is hoping for, and dreaming of, the support in the magazines that we (I) think it deserves. The setting support during the first year or so was, in my opinion again, little short of abominable. Now that we do seem to have a something resembling a degree of support it would take red dragons to drag me away from the hope that there will be more. Even if this hope is unresolved. We have no control here, so all we can do is ask and hope. I find it extraordinary considering the number of excellent authors and designers who love the Realms and have produced, and continue to produce, superb material for the Realms, that more items like Erik's excellent article aren't solicited by WotC from these great people (at gunpoint if need be ;)). |
| #65LordManshoonOct 21, 2009 17:03:21 | Agreed, but to that I say:...(Link to Dream On by Aerosmith) ...... Yeah. I know. I agree. But you gave me an opening for Aerosmith, and I took it. I find it extraordinary considering the number of excellent authors and designers who love the Realms and have produced, and continue to produce, superb material for the Realms, that more items like Erik's excellent article aren't solicited by WotC from these great people (at gunpoint if need be ;)). | #66IluvrienOct 30, 2009 10:48:41 | Your servant, sir! I do hope you enjoy. Depths arrived this morning. Luckily I had an hour or so this afternoon of reading time and managed to tackle the first 80 pages. So far I am enjoying the story greatly. And please do let me know any feedback you may have--I love hearing from readers, particularly those strongly invested in the setting. I am collecting my thoughts as I go and will be sharing them with you, likely at length (sorry), when I push a bit further on and get a better idea of whether the things I am questioning are from the depths of my own head... or from the depths of yours (sorry, I couldn't resist the reference). P.S. Have you been sitting in on my group's sesssions? I swear I recognise that Warlock from another player in our group... and he is about as aggravating. |
