| #1garden_dmJan 28, 2011 1:06:06 | Does anyone have any references on artifacts of Selune? I need a handful (3?, 4?, 5?, not sure) of them for my campaign. I've got no problem making my own up (heck, it would be fun), but thought I'd see if there were any interesting ones already part of the lore. Thanks! |
| #2sfdragonJan 28, 2011 7:43:25 | The only one I Know of is th EYe of SELUNE, its a portal opener that will bring Selunarra backinto the realms and open warfare between Shade and Selunarra willl scare and excite those around. bad thing is, its last owner likely left it behind in waterdeep... inside the Blackstaff tower. thats right a Blackstaff was its last owner. well thats the only one I know of........ |

| #5sfdragonJan 29, 2011 20:19:29 | There might be some Relics somewhere too... though those can be easier to dream up |
| #6garden_dmJan 30, 2011 11:12:45 | @marius4 - Hmmmm, I like the idea of the Wand of Four Moons, but am unsure how I would justify it being out of her hands. I'm thinking of artifacts that were built in her name, infused with her power, but lost over the ages and are now in ancient tombs and catacombs waiting to be rediscovered. @sfdragon - What is the difference between an artifact and a relic? We start playing in two weeks! I haven't GM'ed or played since High School (16 years) and am super excited. I'd share more about how the artifacts play into the plot arc, but don't want to risk the tiny chance that one of my players could stumble upon these posts and recognize what's going on. |

| #8sfdragonJan 30, 2011 14:57:39 | an artifact has a historical reference either to a faith or a nation and has survived through the ages a relic belonged to a champion of a faith that bewcame a saint to it or something like that. in other words, The Loremaster's mace during 4e would be considered a relic to the church of Ogmha where as the axe of the dwarven lords is an artifact to the drawven race |

It was a very unusual priestly spellbook comprised of 4 seperate rings, as in rings one wears on their fingers. They confer some spell use, cast at the clerics level, or at 6th level if the wearer isn't a cleric. As to the specifics of the spells, I'm not in the mood to write a mini-novel detailing them, but as they are all from 2e sources and would need conversion any way it goes, I'd recommend just replacing them with abilities or spells appropriate to whatever edition your playing. * Amglaer: Accelerate Healing, Moonbeam, and True Seeing. Air Walk if another of the three is worn. * Enthandas: Dispel Magic, Water Breathing, and Water Walk (if natural moonlight is shining on the water). Neutralize Poison if Shelmroun is worn. * Shelmroun: Efficacious Monster Ward, Heroes' Feast, and Moonmotes (identical to Magic Missile, except it always produced 6 missiles). Heal if Tilithar is worn. * Tilithar: Fire Storm, Remove Curse, and Remove Paralysis. Restoration if Amglaer is worn. Bad idea to wear them if you're not a Selunite, as you get a Flame Strike for your trouble. If you are a Selunite, you can forgo the being blown up part, but you still have to know the proper sequence and placement of the rings to benefit from their full powers, otherwise wearing all four rings makes them cease to function until removed. The proper sequence and placement is on the bare left hand, Amglaer on the little finger, Enthandas (at the base) and Shelmroun (at the tip) on the middle finger, and Tilithar on the thumb. The rings resize to fit the fingers of the wearer. If worn properly, the wearer can make the books pages appear by silent act of will as long as there is natural moonlight present, with the spells appearing silently on intangible floating pages fromed by glowing air that resembles moonlight in shade and brightness, one spell at a time. The pages last as long as desired, or until touched by sunlight or a non-Selunite, or if one or more rings are taken off. The rings held around 40 spells, though rumors persisted that individual rings could call on 6-10 different spells if the proper rites were known, though no one but very senior members of the clergy knew them, if the rumors were true at all. Supposedly, the rings were given to Selune's faithful by her Shards just after the Fall of Netheril, though it took a few centuries for anyone to realize that they were indeed a spellbook. Like most such relics, they have the teleport to somewhere else thing going for them that was so common for items of power (and oh so convenient for DMs who decided the players have had them long enough). Hope that helps, good luck with things. |

| #11garden_dmApr 14, 2011 0:26:50 | I'm a bit paranoid to post the stuff that I made up here in case my players ever start poking around the forums (unlikely, but still). Feel free to message me if you'd like what I've got so far. |
