Has there been any mention of how it fares other then in the GHotR? I have some plans for it in my own campaign but would like to see their thoughts before I continue.

-Auseriel was destroyed in 1374 DR. Information on the city can be found in Elves of Faerûn. That said, whether the city was rebuilt or not is up in the air. Being as that the city was supposed to be the home of the Tree of Souls, and a secret haven for Elves, with the existence of a reborn and empowered Myth Drannor- new home to the Tree of Souls- and an Evermeet in the Plane of Faerie, Auseriel's necessity has greatly been diminished, to nil. As such, I don't think it would have been rebuilt.

Hmmm... the entry for 1380 in the GHotR says that Araevin Teshurr "sets out for the hidden realm of Auseriel where he meets and befriends Prince Lamruil." It also says that the two "leave Auseriel in the care of Lamruil's seneschal and depart is search of the missing princess Maura." I can't see them needing to leave the city "in the care of Lamruil's seneschal" if it hadn't been rebuilt. Yes? No? Thought? etc...

I would say that the entry strongly implies that Auseriel survived past it's destruction in 1374. I'd also think IMHO that with Evermeet in Faerie, that there is an even greater need for a hidden realm like Auseriel.

Either way, it's getting rebuilt in the game I run. It's the perfect place for me to introduce a type of Winter Elves (based loosely off of Secular Games excellent Winter Elf supplement).

So, just wondering what the official stance is. Maybe this is a question for the Ask the Designers thread.

-I gave my two cents on the matter. If it's rebuilt, I don't know what it would have been rebuilt, as it's purpose was negated.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate your response. I wasn't trying to be snide. ;) I've changed the first line so it comes off better.

Just curious on your thoughts. What do you see as the reason for Auseriel in the first place?

What do you see as the reason for Auseriel in the first place?

-Auseriel was supposed to be a secret homeland of the Elves on the mainland, where the Tree of Souls was to be planted, and the Elven race was supposed to grow strong once more. Myth Drannor accomplishes this purpose.

Hell, even the tree of souls is no longer necessary, the death of Mystra and the loss of the weave would theoretically remove any barriers to the use of High Magic.

-The Tree of Souls became unnecessary in 3e, in it's ability to grant the use of Elven High Magic, as magic restrictions and caps and all of that was removed from Elves. Of course, the tree is more than just that.

Okay, that makes sense, although I put most of the emphasis on the sercet and grow strong part.

Rich just posted in the Ask the Designers thread that it is still around, although he wasn't sure if it was mentioned in the FRCG or just in their notes.

Maybe it's purpose now is changed? With Evermeet gone to the Feywild, maybe Auseriel is still a good place to have a last ditch (secret) locale to retreat to, just in case Myth Drannor falls again.

For me, I have plans for it as a means to an end.

There's also an excellent article on the 'mythical' Snow Elves of FR in Elves of Faerûn.

Shameless Plug --- Mark ;)

Poor Choice of words - in 4e, it very well COULD BE!

Yes, and TWO Faerûnian Gods (non-Elven) were mentioned in loose association with the Snow Elf deities, and that is why we have a quasi-canon example of Snow Elves in FR.

The Elves themselves are not placed or specifically mentioned, but if the Snow Elven gods are friendly/unfriendly with Toril-only deities, then it stands to reason...

-One of Lolth's aliases was the lover of the Snow Elf deity. I believe it was Morgwais. As per Tom Costa.

Yes, and it was also mentioned that AURIL was an enemy of theirs, and there was one other Realms-specific deity that was on friendly terms (but I can't remember which one ATM).

My thought was as part of the reclamation back in 1380 or so, a group of elves volunteered to undergo an high magic ritual to turn themselves into Winter Elves to better help protect Auseriel from the surrounding dangers.

Hmmm... well with the FRCG book at least hinting that they are just using the names Eladrin and Elf with Fey as the catchall, I'm going to have to adjust my idea somewhat. Originally, what was Auseriel mostly populated with? Moon/Sun Elves or Wood Elves? One possibility could be the ritual where performed on a group of Elves (4e style) and part of the ritual changes their appearance to help them better blend in to the surrounding but keep all the other 4e Elves stats.

-The city was never actually given more than two or three sentences in all of Realmslore. It was left up in the air for years in Evermeet: Island of Elves, and then given a concrete name, and fate in AGHotR. Presumably, it was mostly populated with Moon and Sun Elves.

One possibility could be the ritual where performed on a group of Elves (4e style) and part of the ritual changes their appearance to help them better blend in to the surrounding but keep all the other 4e Elves stats.

-An Elven High Magic ritual already exists that changes the subraces of those Elves it is cast upon.

Nope, the farthest north is Many Arrows. Icewind Dale gets barely a mention in the section on regions.
