| #1necrageSep 04, 2011 16:32:11 | Not sure where to post this, or where to find answers. So i post here. Move it pls when necessary. I need some more infos about Warlocks who choosed the Dark Pact, or specifically about the Dark Pack itself. I only have whats written in the Forgotten Realms Players Guide, and thats not rly much. Do you know more or where i can get this infos. Thanks Necrage |
| #2The_SilverswordSep 04, 2011 20:55:08 | No, I dont think they really offered anymore details of the Dark Pact. They probably want to keep it vague intentionally, that way DMS can fill in the specifics, like using a hombrewed patron or something of the sort. |
| #3sfdragonSep 04, 2011 21:37:20 | there is no info on the shadowpact in the essentials books. there might be in the heroes options: shadow which is just out of reach at the moment |
| #4The_SilverswordSep 04, 2011 21:45:14 | The Dark Pact is not the Shadow Pact, the Dark Pact focuses on denizens of the Underdark, not the SHadowfell. Actually come to think of it, Eilistraee would make for an excellent patron for someone using the Dark Pact. |
| #5sfdragonSep 04, 2011 21:49:53 | she'd make for a good fey pact too....... shadow dark its all in the sahdows one way or the other 6 tradebars from waterdeep , half dozen cormyrean tradebars |
| #6Mr_MiscellanySep 04, 2011 23:51:09 | Necrage: not sure if you'd want to cross-post your question to the Rules Q&A forum. Maybe they can help you? As an aside: are you looking for more rules information? Or do you need help setting up a back story? Or something else? |
| #7necrageSep 05, 2011 14:11:34 | Rules is not the problem, i need help setting up a back story. I need this for me as DM and i need it for the player who have less clue then myself. I am not a native english speaker, so its hard for me to write down some big storys about the who's and why's. I hoped there is some source outthere where i can read more about it. But now im just happy when you guys can tell me a bit how you handled this, or what you think about the Dark Pact (Storywise, not rules). |
| #8eseibertSep 06, 2011 9:39:36 | Think of it as where the character draws their powers from. Warlocks have all made deals with powerful entities, be they demons, entities from outer space (the Far Realm), fairies, etc. Dark Pact warlocks have made a deal with something from the darkness, which makes them pretty ballsy if you ask me.. It's -supposed- to be very vague. The darkness represents the unknown and the terrifying. Picture the things you were afraid of as a child...the creatures lurking under your bed. They may even be formless manifestations of fear. |

Exarchs of dark Gods and Goddesses like Loviatar, Zehir, Talona etc. could also be patrons with minimal reflavoring. |

The following is an option you could use: The Mystery of the Shadevari Princes It is said that in times before the making of Abeir-Toril there was only darkness. Across Ao's creation, the crystal sphere of Realmspace, the darkness of the Void reached all. In this void certain parts where connected to the Plane of Shadow, where shadowy beings, collectively known as the Shadevari Princes, revelled in new workspace they found. They had searched for knowledge across the multiverse, and found this crystal sphere to their liking, experimenting with shadowy magics. All was well untill they saw a great light and a shadow forming in the center of Ao's crystal sphere. Obscuring themselves in the far corners of this light, they observed for a while, seeing the birthing of the twin godesses Selune and Shar. Selune illuminated the crystal sphere, growing increasingly radiant as time whent on, while her twin Shar spurred her on, growing at the same pace her sister set. She, like the Shadevari Princes, loved searching knowledge and secrets about the new Crystal Sphere, her Home. Shar saw the Princes, but didn't share this with her twin. Over time, when Shar sneaked away from her twin to converse with the Shadevari, she quickly learned there were meriad worlds without her home, and powerful magic could be hers, the Princes promised. Selune, in her ignorance, pleaded for Shar to help her create Chauntea, so she wouldn't be so alone when Shar was away. Shar agreed, knowing that the time she could spend across the multiverse would make her stronger with all the magics she could learn. After the world-goddes was created, Shar went away from Selune to th Shadevari Princes more often, and roamed the multiverse. The Shadevari Princes promised Shar that, with her powerful divine talent, she could eventually learned the secret to destroy whole worlds, a secret she has strained to learn ever since. After a tour across several crystal spheres, Shar returned to Abeir-Toril. She immediately felt something was wrong, as a great light shone on Chauntea, strong enough to reach the far corners of Realmspace. Chauntea was teeming with lifeforms in all shapes and sizes. Shar felt that the Princes were gone. Enraged she confronted her twin, claiming she was ruining more than she new by introducing a radiant ally - a Sun - onto their creation. Chauntea called Shar out, whispering into Selunes ear that Shar she was lying about something. A that moment Shar shot a bolt of divine magic power at Chauntea, and Selune stepped in to take the blow. Her wound created Mystra and the Weave bled over Chauntea. The War of Light and Darkness had begun. The Shadevari Princes observed, fading far away from the Sun god to clear their blinded sight, leaving the corrupted godling to her own devices for countless aeons. They occasionally seek mortals to learn how their teachings to the shadowy goddess Shar unfold. They refound ways to visit Toril by her work in the deepest regions of the Underdark and the darkest parts of Shars domain, but still loath to visit the illuminated surface of Chauntea, avoiding the burning radiance of Selune or Amaunator that keep Torils upper astral seas in the light. Their dark knowledge of the multiverse is ancient, and they share their secrets of unmaking only with their most trusted agents. |

I don't know if you're looking only for Realms content, but there are two nice generic articles that deal with this, including a dark patron description and adventure seeds. They are in Dragon 381 (Performing the pact) and Dungeon 174 (Sealing the pact). |
