| #1lord_karsusAug 06, 2008 15:10:47 | -Here are the numbers for this week: |
| #2merrikcaleAug 06, 2008 15:13:19 | is that good? |
| #3lord_karsusAug 06, 2008 15:15:00 | -I'd rather the numbers go up in both sections, but they're decent, sure. |
| #4the_shamanAug 06, 2008 19:49:21 | What do these numbers mean, anyway? Number of threads? |
| #5lord_karsusAug 06, 2008 22:16:35 | What do these numbers mean, anyway? Number of threads? -Yes. These are the number of active threads per day, for the past week (wrecan began with Wednesday). |
| #618DELTAAug 11, 2008 17:24:29 | -Here are the numbers for this week: |
| #7lord_karsusAug 11, 2008 17:37:45 | -Posts per day are not counted. Active threads per day are what is counted. |
| #818DELTAAug 11, 2008 17:40:10 | -![]() 18DELTA :embarrass |
| #9lord_karsusAug 13, 2008 11:15:58 | -This week's numbers (Week 12) |
| #10merrikcaleAug 13, 2008 11:19:08 | not bad i suppose |
| #11lord_karsusAug 13, 2008 11:24:52 | -Could be better in the Realmslore section. But, there's a few large threads where everyone is posting, instead of a lot of little ones. And, of course, there have been boards problems this week. |
| #12merrikcaleAug 13, 2008 21:02:01 | -And, of course, there have been boards problems this week. an unusally bad prob this week |
| #13lord_karsusAug 13, 2008 22:45:29 | -Yes. Days that have technical difficulties are given asterisks, to denote the skew in the numbers. |
| #14markustay63Aug 13, 2008 23:00:50 | I say we go out and kill them friggin' asterisks! They've been asking for trouble since day one... |
| #15lord_karsusAug 14, 2008 21:02:45 | -It's a combination of various glitches and physical problems that are doing it. But, participation is still good, so that's all that matters. |
| #16rinonalyrna_fathomlinAug 15, 2008 17:01:59 | Probably just due to "negthreads" ( ). |
| #17JudgeDookieAug 15, 2008 17:12:19 | Must ask: Does this count include just the active posts at the time you're pulling the numbers or does this include posts that have been deleted as well? I fear the fart jokes I recently made on 12 different threads weren't counted properly. :D |
| #18lord_karsusAug 15, 2008 18:26:13 | Probably just due to "negthreads" ( -Yeah... + ![]() Must ask: Does this count include just the active posts at the time you're pulling the numbers or does this include posts that have been deleted as well? -The numbers are checked every day, around 10 AM or so, and represent all of the active threads (threads that have had at least 1 post) in the 24 hours before being checked. |
| #19lord_karsusAug 20, 2008 12:52:16 | -Here are this week's numbers: |
| #20lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 11:20:43 | -Here are this week's numbers: |
| #21krownhunter07Aug 27, 2008 11:37:51 | Question; what is the purpose of this thread? Just giving us the numbers or...? I really don't know, this is the first time I've seen it. |
| #22lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 11:43:04 | -Providing numbers. |
| #23krownhunter07Aug 27, 2008 11:45:08 | Cool, cool. Thanks LK. |
| #24quale_Aug 27, 2008 12:52:02 | so one more split? |
| #25lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 12:58:03 | so one more split? -In theory, it is a possibility, since the numbers are clearly there, but I don't see a viable way to pursue such a split to make the most use of the extra board. The one thing that I was thinking was 'Forgotten Realms General Discussion', where all book reviews, opinion threads, and things like that would go, but I don't foresee such a section being able to sustain enough activity. |
| #26drowbattlemindAug 27, 2008 13:22:03 | -Providing numbers. But why numbers? Why not apricots, or hyphens? Or even hybrid piranha-penguins? (Ooh, please, the last one! I could REALLY use some of those!) ![]() |
| #27lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 22:24:32 | -I forgot: Two weeks ago was Week 13, and this past week was Week 14. |
| #28johnkretzerAug 27, 2008 22:30:11 | I have been away for a little bit is this important for some reason? Would they limit us back down to one section if the number of active threads hit a certain point? |
| #29lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 22:33:51 | I have been away for a little bit is this important for some reason? Would they limit us back down to one section if the number of active threads hit a certain point? -Yes. Likewise, if there is a continued excess of threads, there exists the possibility of another split. |
| #30johnkretzerAug 27, 2008 22:36:03 | -Yes. Likewise, if there is a continued excess of threads, there exists the possibility of another split. What is the munber? Or you can't tell us or don't know? |
| #31lord_karsusAug 27, 2008 22:40:01 | -The threshold for a section being a candidate for merger is less than 10 threads per day, for a sustained period of time. Note, though, that sections that have already been broken down into the 'lowest common denominator', such as the Other Published Settings section, or are inherent to the boards structure, such as the Community Business section, are not possible candidates for merger. -The threshold for a section being a candidate for a split is more than 25 threads per day, for a sustained period of time. If the section has more than 50 threads per day, for a sustained period of time, the process is hurried a bit faster. A section must be able to be split viably into two, however, before anything happens. For example, the D&D Rules boards regularly has 50+ posts, but is kept in one section because there is no real way to split the section. -Does that answer everything? |
| #32johnkretzerAug 27, 2008 22:48:43 | -The threshold for a section being a candidate for merger is less than 10 threads per day, for a sustained period of time. Note, though, that sections that have already been broken down into the 'lowest common denominator', such as the Other Published Settings section, or are inherent to the boards structure, such as the Community Business section, are not possible candidates for merger. Yes thank you. |
| #33lord_karsusSep 04, 2008 10:33:45 | -Here's this week's numbers (Week 15): |
| #34BelorinSep 05, 2008 1:48:33 | Up in the Community Business forum in the Forum Re-org thread, Solis, our new Community Manager Solice is pushing for this;I lied. I am making my proposal a day early. I have bolded the relevant sections. I have always believed each setting should get at least it's own (sub)forum. Bel |
| #35lord_karsusSep 05, 2008 10:24:05 | -Yes. The only ones (obviously) of any interest to this section is the Forgotten Realms. |
| #36BelorinSep 05, 2008 14:30:49 | Looks like we set a trend judging by the Eberron forum names, didn't they try to think up their own? Bel |
| #37ikkiSep 05, 2008 15:04:15 | but now if fr realms lore should be divided. How is that done in any intelligent fashion? People vs places. or pre- and post- , which they are unlikely to want to see... or somehow into regions, hoever there could ever be an intelligent division. Is cormyr east or west? Iriabor, north or south etc.. Guess only people vs places make any sense of what i can think of atm. |
| #38BelorinSep 05, 2008 15:26:16 | I think the idea is to open a FR General forum where a lot of the threads that get put in Realmslore due to the fact that they don't belong in the RtR forum can be put. Things like LK's book reviews and similar threads. Bel |
| #39lord_karsusSep 05, 2008 21:37:09 | Looks like we set a trend judging by the Eberron forum names, didn't they try to think up their own? -Right. I actually, earlier, made the suggestion that someone find out if such an Eberron term exists (My facetious example was "Eberrinformation"), and use that instead. but now if fr realms lore should be divided. How is that done in any intelligent fashion? -If you have any suggestions, you can throw them into the mix in the thread reorganization discussion over a the Community Business section. |
| #40lord_karsusSep 10, 2008 11:24:28 | -Here's this week's numbers (Week 16): |
| #41JudgeDookieSep 10, 2008 20:18:46 | Hmmmm…. If I could ever get my ass away from work and football, then I can guarantee those numbers would jump. As is…. I was all for the split as it is now, but it doesn’t seem to have made nearly the impact that I expected before I vacated for a time. I’m still losing threads as I did before and the same things are still being argued/debated. One thing that I have noticed that could create a good split is a “Noobie question” forum. I notice that there is a lot of “I’m not sure/don’t know/can’t find” type of questions here that could probably hold their own. The rest are “what do you think/I was planning/any help?” type stuff. You get people that know nothing and those that know enough, but just looking for some input or opinion. In the end, you would get: Realms: (Looking for) Lore Realms: (Looking for) Opinions Realms: (Looking for) Rules To me, that seems pretty concrete on where to go with such things—especially as all things stand at the moment. The Opinions forum becomes the gray between the white (Lore) and black (Rules). Especially where the 3e to 4e transition keeps coming up. |
| #42lord_karsusSep 10, 2008 20:23:38 | In the end, you would get: -That's more or less what we are going to get (We ARE getting that third forum). Realmslore, Running the Realms, and General. -In the General area, that's going to be the place for the Ask-the-Author threads, things like book reviews, things like, "Why I hate/love 3e/4e and the Forgotten Realms", community projects, like Elves of Faerûn, and the Kara-Tur Re-Dux, and so on. I estimate that this will cause the Realmslore to drop from about 30-50 threads on average to about 20-40 on average, Running the Realms to more or less stay the same, around 15-20 (maybe a little rise, with the FRPG coming out soon), and the General section with similar numbers (10-20). -You know what? I'll make a new post to inform the community. ![]() |

| #45JudgeDookieOct 24, 2008 22:43:35 | As much as I was for it, probs come to the forefront. The division into three threads has come into the same issues I thought they would. I would rather have the general and lore threads merged back into one at this point. Sorry. ![]() |

Didn't really mean it. -Here are the numbers for the past week: |
| #56lord_karsusJan 22, 2009 10:18:11 | May I ask what the point is of keeping track of this stuff anymore? -To have access to the numbers, if we ever need them and to track activity. Are we now going for a forth? -Probably not. But, with more activity, if it becomes needed, then in theory, yes. |
| #57JudgeDookieJan 22, 2009 10:30:04 | -To have access to the numbers, if we ever need them and to track activity. That's sort of my point. You have the numbers. And, as forum lead, we look to your great leadership ( ) to handle these matters when needed. This post was originally created to keep us up to date on how close we were to getting three boards (which I now see serving little point with 4e released). Is there a reason we--not you--should be monitoring this? |
| #58lord_karsusJan 22, 2009 10:54:07 | Is there a reason we--not you--should be monitoring this? -From the beginning, there was no reason for anyone else other than myself to be monitoring this. I simply post it for "transparency" or whatever, and to let people know how active the sections are. |
| #59merrikcaleJan 22, 2009 11:09:08 | i think its useful JD or at least of interest |

Are you monitoring comparisons with other settings--determining where to spend your days based on board popularity? ;) Didn't think you were still around MC. Almost nice to see you again. :D |

Are you monitoring comparisons with other settings--determining where to spend your days based on board popularity? ;) I pop in every once in awhile. Frankly, I have all but given up on the Realms. Part of me hopes the 4e realms fades into non-existencs and is a big wreck for WoTC so they go back. I am contemplating at this point going to Golarion I suppose I will check in every once in awhile to get a Dookie fix. And see how Lk, Rin, and others are doing too |

| #80lord_karsusMar 23, 2009 13:32:04 | -It's been a slow bleeding for months, that I've been doing my best to staunch, that I gave up on about a week ago. Sadly, it is what it is. Traffic is never going to reach the "glory years" of, say, 2006-2008, again. A great deal, if not most, of the people who were most active and the kind of posters I wish we had more of around- the posters who defined what these forums really were, you know?- here no longer post, really...It is what it is.
