| #3lord_karsusOct 15, 2008 13:39:23 | -That was when the boards were down. It was Thursday, actually. I just started on the wrong date. Everything got shifted a day. |

| #8zananOct 29, 2008 6:24:57 | Aha ... and what is this info good for, board supervisors apart? To me, it is as important as the yards thrown by some American football player. |
| #9lord_karsusOct 29, 2008 10:24:58 | -No one said you had to care about it. It's for me. |
| #10zananOct 29, 2008 18:11:30 | -No one said you had to care about it. It's for me. Hm ... I simply wanted to know from you why the "Board Status: Please read" header was used. Any underlying thoughts? Or, turned on its head: why do we have to care about this? (Any insight knowledge on your part?) |
| #11merrikcaleNov 07, 2008 20:56:01 | is it just me, or does there seem to be less activity on these boards now? |
| #12kerym_ammathNov 08, 2008 7:43:46 | There probably is less traffic. I know that I am mostly lurking, and if I have nothing nice to say I don't post. In other words like some others I am not posting because I really don't need to be setting off edition arguments. |

| #17lord_karsusDec 10, 2008 21:15:01 | -No, I don't think so. A fractured fanbase, coupled with a lack of new material. Without any concentrated effort, I'd expect the numbers to hover somewhere around there for a while, generally speaking, spiking every so often, when new novels and/or articles are released. Maybe a little higher in General Discussion. We'll see. |
| #18rauricDec 10, 2008 21:17:35 | This is why I was never a big fan of three FR forums. Just saying. I do not care in the end because some of the people I do talk to here are pretty entertaining overall. |

When that happens, I just put those asterisks, to denote that a value doesn't exist for that day. |

| #48StiggerMar 19, 2009 3:24:49 | Can't say I'm overly suprised that its slowing down. A lot of the more verbose posters seem to have gone on to greener pastures for whatever reason. The economy can't be helping much either really... I'd guess quite a few folks have more important things to worry about than a game at the moment. |
| #49kerym_ammathMar 19, 2009 17:40:16 | Just been busy in this little corner of the Realms, business really picked up. :D |
| #50merrikcaleMar 19, 2009 21:38:38 | The economy can't be helping much either really... I'd guess quite a few folks have more important things to worry about than a game at the moment. I would think with the economy in its current state would lead to more diversionary tactics whether that be D&D or something else and I think the reason why the "more verbose" posters have left is rather self-evident |
| #51AegeriMar 19, 2009 21:46:53 | Just been busy in this little corner of the Realms, business really picked up. :D Same here, I have too many people wanting to play and not enough time to run enough games (with science and such getting in the way as well)! |
| #52StiggerMar 20, 2009 0:29:21 | Well, I was trying to be tactful there... generally in times like this, people tend to look to upbeat escapism rather than PoL stuff. Not true in every case of course, only as a generality. |
| #53kerym_ammathMar 20, 2009 7:21:28 | Same here, I have too many people wanting to play and not enough time to run enough games (with science and such getting in the way as well)! LOL... I actually meant that IRL. I own a home remodeling business, and things have been getting busier. Moving into the busy time of year, but I have never been so buried, being booked out for six months (recessions are good for the remodeling business, people fix or upgrade what they have instead of buying new). On your point though I have the same problem. |

| #57merrikcaleMar 26, 2009 20:33:59 | thats bad right? Is there any talk of reducing the number of FR forums? |
| #58rauricMar 26, 2009 20:56:24 | Well, I was trying to be tactful there... generally in times like this, people tend to look to upbeat escapism rather than PoL stuff. Not true in every case of course, only as a generality. I don't really think gamers really think too much about the POL aspect of the newer edition. Many like myself are probalby just running the same type of games they did in the past but with the newer rules. My old 3E EB game was much darker than my current game. There last session ended with the group wanted for regicide and they just had to escape Khorvaire (the main continent for most gamers) and head to Stormreach, a city of scum and villany. In my 4E continutation of the game they were exonerated of the crime, and have become pulpish celeberties after saving Stormreach from becoming a necropolis. Can't get much escapist than that. ;) |
| #59treesplitter_dupMar 26, 2009 20:57:46 | What do the numbers mean? Why might they mean reducing the numbers of FR forums? I was going to ask why the numbers are bad, but I think the second question I made is the answer to that question. |
| #60rauricMar 26, 2009 21:04:00 | Higher numbers can lead to more forums. I personally think there only needed to be 2 forums anyway. In the past there were way too many FR forums and some interesting threads were probably lostdue to people never checking out the Arms and Equipment of the Realms forum. One or two forums are good enough IMO. |
| #61treesplitter_dupMar 26, 2009 22:12:00 | Thanks, if that was to me. It comes close enough to answering my questions so I will give thanks regardless. |
| #62lord_karsusMar 26, 2009 22:26:01 | What do the numbers mean? -The posted numbers are the amount of active threads (posted in at least once within a 24-hour time period) per day. Why might they mean reducing the numbers of FR forums? -Currently, there are three Forgotten Realms sections- Realmslore, General and Running the Realms. This is by virtue of the demand being high enough to warrant there being three different sections. The former administrator of the website established that the criteria for a new section being born is the prolonged demonstration of 25+ active threads per day, and the criteria for a section being merged with another is the prolonged demonstration of <10 active threads per day. I was going to ask why the numbers are bad, but I think the second question I made is the answer to that question. -They show a general trend of downward activity, not only in just one specific section, but all three. This is bad in two ways: (A) There's less discussion of the Forgotten Realms happening, and (B) Prolonged downward activity may eventually prompt a merging of sections, which is problematic, as it has already been established that, two sections are not a viable option. |
| #63treesplitter_dupMar 26, 2009 22:46:33 | @ Lord Karsus Thankyou. Your replies are much appreciated. |
| #64markustay63Mar 28, 2009 11:16:06 | I think they can just go back to one FR board - now that they've chased away all the real fans (and shiney Eberron just around the corner), this place is becoming a ghost town. |
| #65treesplitter_dupMar 28, 2009 11:27:45 | I hope not. ![]() |
| #66rauricMar 28, 2009 20:16:48 | I would like to think Treesplitter here is a real fan of the setting. I am sure there are others like him new to the setting that want info and peaceful conversation. This should and can be the place for them. |
| #67treesplitter_dupMar 29, 2009 0:56:36 | Thankyou Rauric. I would like to think I am a fan. I have a decent FR splatbook collection and have read a few of the novels but there are a lot of holes that I would like to fill. There seems to be no shortage in available information here so I think I will tap into it. |
| #68rauricMar 29, 2009 5:40:03 | I have noticed that every so often forums lose old posters and gain new ones. This is probably one of those times. With a new setting book coming out in a few months this may complicate matters. FR got me into the setting do to the novels back in 87. That is a big draw for the setting IMO and as long as it holds off on the RSEs then the setting will be fine. Let's stop the Chicken Little nonsense. :D |
| #69lord_karsusMar 29, 2009 11:16:54 | -Enough. Stop with the chatter. If it's about the numbers, post it. If it's not, post it elsewhere. |
| #70lord_karsusMar 30, 2009 10:10:19 | -Here are the numbers for the past week: |
| #71RUMPLESTIXMar 31, 2009 17:34:09 | (The Rumplestix wanders into the clearing and begins to examine the strange board with its numbers.) Not looking too good. (After sniffing the board and trying to take a bite out of it, the Rumplestix slowly wanders out of the clearing.) |
| #72treesplitter_dupMar 31, 2009 20:52:10 | So, it is not much, but the subforums did all increase in activity, right? Is it enough? How often do they decide on what to downsize and restructure? By the way, who is this "they" that I am referring to? I am sorry about all the questions but my curiousity has been aroused. |
| #73lord_karsusMar 31, 2009 21:48:04 | So, it is not much, but the subforums did all increase in activity, right? -Things fluctuate slightly, when new people join up, and post, or whatever else, but overall, the trend is decidedly downwards. Is it enough? -Personally, I'm not satisfied unless Forgotten Realms: General and Forgotten Realms: Realmslore have 20+/- posts or more per day, and Forgotten Realms: Running the Realms has 5 +/- posts or more per day. How often do they decide on what to downsize and restructure? -"They" are the people who are in charge of the website, WotC. The last administrator lost her job a few months ago, when the company was laying off a bunch of people. Two other guys (their names escape me at the moment- Mike and someone else, I believe) are in charge now. Unlike the previous administrator (Jennifer Paige, AKA "Solice"), and the administrator before her (Mike Lescault, AKA "GamerZer0"), the new administrators are not as centralized and visible; the most visible people of authority are the Volunteer Community Leads (of which "Webster" is ours), but they don't have the ability to change things directly- they can only suggest and recommend things change. -All that said, I don't think that it is very likely that the boards get restructured anytime soon. It's been months since the last one, and I'm still regularly reminding whoever will listen when the topic comes up that the Forgotten Realms General section still doesn't have a description, while the other two do. That nothing officially is likely to be done doesn't change the fact that I, personally, think that the numbers don't bode well, and that things are a proverbial shell of themselves as compared to the activity that there used to be. |

| #78JudgeDookieApr 14, 2009 22:04:03 | -Currently, there are three Forgotten Realms sections- Realmslore, General and Running the Realms. This is by virtue of the demand being high enough to warrant there being three different sections. The former administrator of the website established that the criteria for a new section being born is the prolonged demonstration of 25+ active threads per day.... That has long since passed. It is now time. First, the spike came with the prelude to 4e--the buzz is now over. Second, with nothing new coming out with 4e FR, there is nothing to discuss. Third, with all three segregated from each other now, it makes it more difficult to follow the threads we post to. Not to mention those actual posters we want to follow. -- The amount of posts we have these days on a single board equals what we had--previously--on three. I say that we need to merge the boards again. Having "more" isn't necessarily "more" in my opinion. It's obviously proving less. |

| #80merrikcaleApr 16, 2009 7:20:51 | The amount of posts we have these days on a single board equals what we had--previously--on three. ah, the death throes of the Realms |
| #81rauricApr 16, 2009 7:31:11 | New posters come and lurk alot here. Many older fans may have went to Candlekeep or other sites because of negativity or activity. They are welcome to post here and help newcomers learn about the Realms. Nobodies going to bite their heads off but it seems that many old posters have chosen to seclude themselves over at others sites than to try and also help new Fans. It is a shame because I think this is a great time to have people discussing info about older lore around here. Some new fans may ignore it but others may gobble it up. |

It is a shame because I think this is a great time to have people discussing info about older lore around here. Some new fans may ignore it but others may gobble it up. I noticed an exodus of the many well-versed older posters long before the 4E announcement. I think they got sick of negative arguments of the old kind, ones against the pre-Spellplague Realms (before there was even a Spellplagued Realms). I've seem some of them express frustration at discussing the Realms with people who are adamantly set against the Realms, even when presented with published information that should change their negative misconception. You see this often enough on these boards still. Some posters find it necessary to preface their posts with denouncements of the Old Realms before even asking questions about the old lore. Some don't even try to look into the old lore and just post denouncements of the Old Realms, occasionally followed by stating a possible interest in the 4E Realms. |
