| #1tyrannorNov 10, 2009 11:03:32 | For a few months now I have been running a 4e Realms campaign for my wife (and a separate one for my wife and her best friend) which has been centered around Baldur's Gate. There has been a lot of interaction between the thieves guild and its guildmistress, Nine-Fingers Keene, and the warriors/fighters guild and its guildmistress, Tessa Strongblade. My wife's character, Lorelei, a dual-wielding warrior from the Moonshae Isles, inadvertantly sparked a war between the two guilds which has culminated in the assassination of Guildmistress Strongblade by the hand of Belendithas of the Dusk. Meanwhile, Lorelei has gained support from a handful of trusted allies, including: her new husband, Banagon Strongblade, oldest son of the now deceased guildmistress; Fargrim, a dwarven cleric of Torm; Denagar, an invoker and follower of Oghma; Tanner Darkmoon, Lt. Commander of the Flaming Fist, an urban ranger, and Banagon's half-brother. Their adventures have taken them in and around Baldur's Gate and they have run afoul of: the Cult of the Dragon; a cadre of necromancers in association with Bane; the Church of Last Hope in Baldur's Gate; the thieves guild in Baldur's Gate; a succubus, a small dragon, a host of undead, and orcs, orcs, orcs! Also, adventures have taken place in Baldur's Gate, specifically in the underground hallways of The Blushing Mermaid (which was also a chief meeting place for Keene and her guild, and also including a brothel, and a temple dedicated to some "unknown yet evil" deity); the open streets and market square; and the famous inn "The Blade and Stars" which was burned to the ground. Until now, I have been playing sessions where I either wrote out whole encounters, or the reverse and played them free-flowing and allowing her to truly dictate what happens and where such takes place. I have utilized encounters from Dungeon Delve (great resource!), and am about to take one of the Goodman Games modules and incorporate it into the Cult of the Dragon story arc. Likewise, I plan to use Open Grave as a resource, specifically one of the upper level encounters, and have decided that one of the main antagonists is actually Osterneth, the Bronze Lich--specifically, she has assumed control of the Baldur's Gate thieves guild in the guise of Nine-Fingers Keene. However, I want the story to go out in a big-bang. While I can take pieces here and there from other sources, including the use of the Goodman Games module for a big chunk of playtime, I was considering using the E1-E3 series as the grand finale. I am in graduate school and have very little time to spend creating huge encounters and storylines. I was considering introducing the Raven Queen into the Realms as a result of the death of Mystra, the former having been pulled into the realm as a result of the devastating blow the Spellplague had upon everything. The gods and their servants have already played a part in Lorelei's story through her assisting several Silverstar sisters of Selune, and her role in a reincarnation ritual by the hand of a Kelemvor Doomguide. All this to say that Lorelei will most likely become a Chosen, or even the Red Knight incarnate when all is said and done. So, would E1-E3, with a little tweaking, fit the bill? Or are there other avenues of approach, where an ultimate evil is attempting to usurp powers and become a master of a domain? Thanks! |

I have been mulling this over for a couple of days now, and I just received E1-E3 in the mail yesterday so I will indeed be converting it over to the Realms by picking from its pantheon. I'll need to read up on events surrounding the Spellplague a little deeper than I have, for it is from those events that the pantheon has fallen into disorder and allowed for the overall situation of E1-E3 to take place. I have some time. The PCs are only now reaching their mid-heroic tier levels anyway. I like to plan ahead...way ahead. |
