I had a Druid back in AD&D2e that worshipped her. I haven't heard of Mielikki in a long time.

Yeah Mielikki is still around. And its a pretty good article, got some nice info and some feats and a Paragon Path. They dont actually have a Channel Divinity power in there for Mielikki, but im pretty sure theres one in the Realms Players guide.

And it sounds like Matt James has got something up his sleeve, i cant wait to hear more about that. Id like to see some Exarchs detailed as well and some Channel Divinity feats for them, and something official saying whether or not they get Domains. I could see them getting access to at least one domain, Although in that Dragon article which matched up the Domains to the Realms and Eberron gods they mention that Greater Gods get 3 and all others get 2, so i would assume that Exarchs fall into the all others category and would get 2 Domanins.

Yes theres a picture, but i think shes a favored of Mielikki, not an aspect of Mielikki, but yeah theres is a holy symbol on there, it looks pretty much the same to me.

At least i think its the same, Mielikkis symbols was a unicorn right? That looks more like a horse head, but im assuming that the horn is cut off by her furs.

yes it wqas, and I agree its a faovered.

so would this article along with the winterfolk be worth 10 dollars......

and now that I have seen this image, you might want to remove it from your post, as I'm sure wotc wont like it there for non ddi subscribers, even more so since there is still one piece of art from lasts months dragon mag that I want to see.....

No those 2 articles by themselves are probably not worth 10 dolloars, but add in Matts upcoming Shadar-Kai city article and the Character Builder + Monster builder updates, and the online Database, and yeah i think its worth 10 bux, but thats really for you to decide.

And as for the picture i posted, do you really think they will have a problem with that? I was under the impression that it was cool as long as im not post specific feat, powers, class, etc. information.

And what picture did you want to see from last month?

well MAtt's upcoming article might be.
the Eyes on the Realms would be.

anything by:
Ed Greenwood
the Brothers James
Steven schend( if he does one)
Erik DeBie
Richard Baker III
and a select few others ,along with the char builder update, would make it worth 10 dollars....

No i didnt review the PP. I didnt really review the feats or the article itself either, other than to say i liked it. But since you brought it up ill do that.

The Favored of Mielikki Paragon Path is pretty good i think. Fits nicely with Mielikki. Puts me in mind of an old school Ranger or Druid. They get a tree stride ability that lets them teleport from tree to tree. The powers Protective Vines and Call of the forest are like the old entangle spell. They get bonuses against beast, plant, and aberrrant creatures, that one really puts me in mind of the old school ranger. So yes all in all i think Matt Sernett did a good job of capturing the woodsy feel of a favored of Mielikki.

The feats are pretty good too. They focus mostly on stealth and perception. Theres a paragon tier feat, Forest Walk, that lets you ignore difficult terrain caused by natural grouth. All in all Matt Sernett did an excellent job here and I look foward to seeing more of his work.

And i was going to post those pics you wanted, but ill hold off. I dont want to get in trouble or anything. Ill see if they say anything about the one i already posted. I myself dont see it as a big deal, i mean i dont see anybody who would be like oh i got the picture now so i dont need the article, but WotC might see it a different way.

Well i think that Shar gets enough info in the Campaign and Players Guide, I would like to see more spotlight on the lesser gods and exarchs. But still theres alot they could do with Shar, do they have a channel divinity power for her?

I want them to explain how and why Angharradh's pointless stupid arse is still somehow around despite being retconned out of all possibility of existence and the continued pointlessness of said existence, and why the HELLS she has Protection as a domain and Corellon doesn't.

Actually no, I want them to just forget she exists, and just go back and wipe her from the 4E book. Hells, the 3E and 2E books while we're at it. Corellon doesn't need a sodding wife. Where's Q'arlynd and his apprentices when you need them?

Hey I like Angharradh! I dont think shes pointless. The Tri goddess thing was more of a moon elf thing. I think other elves saw her as being an individual, not 3 other goddesses combined. Whos to say whos really right there? And besides why couldnt a primordial and 2 goddess join together to form an elven deity? Is that really so far fetched in the realm of gods? Another way of looking at it is that Hanali, Sehanine and Aerdrie had a 3 way and Angharradh was the resulting offspring.

I liked Sehainine Moonbow.

didnt care to much for Hanali or Fenya.

and Angaradh never really made much since to me.....

and even now it makes no since, would of been better to of left Sehanine, but no they didnt want her becuase seh was in POL and they didnt want to cross gods in each world, and that their were to many goddesses of the moon as it was...or some such

anyway this just brngs up the beaten to death and back horse, that just keeps going lame arguments.
and we dont need to go there again.

I don't want to say what may or may not be in my Ikemmu article because I don't know what will stay and what could get cut. There is a fleeting mention of Shar, but nothing too grand. Ikemmu is a unique city and that's all I can say right now ;)

I think you're being generous silversword to the feats and PP here:

Shadow of the Wild is so conditional it's really not very good, because it requires you to be outdoors and it imposes a huge penalty on your stealth check.

Wilderness Wariness is okayish, but you can accomplish the same thing with perception with perception skill focus. The other part is nice, but again it's too conditional to be useful in a wide variety of situations.

Forest walk is not very good at all.

The Paragon path is what I would describe as terrible:

Mielikki’s Generosity is a great feature first up and has more than a few uses, but an action point ability does not make a paragon path worth taking by itself - as spending APs is not a reliable way of doing anything.

Mielikki's sight is so close to being awesome and then does itself in with being conditional to outdoors only.

Mielikki’s Judgment this is conditionally okay as expanded crit ranges are always useful, but I don't see the point of the condition to be outdoors and it's restricted to three types of enemies. There is a point where making something that is restricted to 3 types of enemies and doesn't even get the full benefit (criticals inflicting the daze condition) unless you are outside is going overboard. Again I can understand it's done for fluff reasons, but it means this PP just ends up obscenely underpowered as half its features can't be used most of the time.

Protective Vines is okay.

Treestride is obscenely situational, but I would think there is the odd plant even in dungeons including plant creatures.

Call of the forest is an okay power.

Overall this PP feels underpowered, with a couple of okay powers but everything else being too situational. It's certainly not useless and its level 20 power could be pretty handy, but it just doesn't have the impact that other PPs have. A lot of the powers it has don't need the "being outside" condition really.

Well I havnt playtested it or anything, but looking it over , it looks pretty good to me. I might be slightly biased cause i do love the Realms, so i get excited about anything Realms related released. I dont know all in all i like it. Yes some of the feats and powers are situational, but i like that, it makes sense that a Favored of Mielikki is really going to be on top of his/her game while outdoors. But still you do bring up some good points there Aegeri. It is possible that they might change it up a little, but all in all i think it captures the feel of a follower of Mielikki.

Ahhh you mean this one? www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/d...

It snuck past me, I didnt realize it was Realms specific.

And I'll have to checkout Candlekeep. Well ive checked it out for years but ive never posted there. So if theyre becoming more 4e Friendly does that mean we can expect some 4e Candlekeep Compendiums? That would be awesome!

Edit: Yes that was the one.

I just now signed up over at Candlekeep, Us 4Eers will have to stick together and watch each other's backs. Still get some venom in here too. I dont want to come off as all pro 4e Realms, I love the Realms period. Regardless what edition you are talking about. But I understand everyones got different tastes, and they did change alot in the new Realms, but theres still alot to love about it. And yes, before some one else says it, there can be alot to hate too. All in all its really about what kinda game you want to run or play. You dont like the changes? Then dont use them, keep you campaign in 1379 or what ever. I still think the 4e Realms books have some good stuff in there regardless what edition you are using. I love the Realms and will continue to support it, until they nail my coffin shut, even then i'll do my best to support it from beyond the grave!

4E has the general design principle that paragon paths and feats are at least useful most of the time if a character can use it. A feat that gives +1 bonus to fire spells is a good example, because if the PC has a flaming weapon or a power that has fire properties he gets that benefit a good majority of the time. A power or feat that is utterly useless a huge majority of the time (anywhere not outside) is not a well designed feat or power. Most of these do not need the restrictions to be outside at all and even when you are outside, all they do is bring you up to par with other better paragon paths/feats. They don't actually have the power level to warrant their own restriction.

I like the PP. It works for any class, so that is a plus. It is on the list of PPs to take for my outdoor wizard.
I'm at Candlekeep, btw. I don't recently get anti-4th ed vibes there, but I am active in only one or two threads. I do notice a lot of people still ask for pre-plague lore from Ed (which I then use and adapt), but not much hate any more.

I thought you did make a pretty good point.

Yeah maybe its not perfectly balanced or whatever, and some of the powers and feats are situational, but still, I think its alright, If I had a character that worshipped Mielikki, I'd go for it.

I thought you did make a pretty good point.

Except their powers only make them up to par in an outdoors encounter, yet against everyone else in a dungeon where many adventurers spend a good chunk of time they are below power. A Battlefield Archer for a ranger as an example is far superior to this build in every manner, especially because half of its abilities aren't heavily depowered indoors.

An example of a PP with a specific role and idea is the Sword Coast Corsair from FRPG. This is a PP obviously intended to work with a naval campaign, but is this useless outside of a ship like this articles PP is almost worthless inside a ruin? Let's see:

Expert Mariner is pointless off a ship, no argument there.

Sea Legs is a fantastic generalist power though, as you get +2 speed and ignore difficult terrain when you spend an AP. Minding the articles PP was okay as well, so they certainly score evenly here.

Bold Attacker gives you +2 will defense whenever you hit with a melee attack. Not conditional except hitting (which you want to be doing anyway) and very useful, especially at epic with dominate and similar powers.

Strike Terror is a decent damage power that pushes 5 squares.

Nerves of Steel is a handy extra saving throw, with a bonus against fear effects.

Keelhaul is a 5[W] power, with half damage on a miss and allows you to shift 3 squares and pull the target 3 squares with you. Extremely handy, especially as the +5 bonus to fear affects is useful for getting rid of many attack penalties monster can deal to you trivially.

Now Sword Coast Corsair isn't an obscenely powerful PP, but it has its core use on a ship and every single other power functions regardless if you are on a ship or not. Not to mention where it does have a conditional power, it's absurdly good at what it does so you are the complete master on a ship compared to your party mates. Off a ship you have 3 solid powers (the PP in the CD article has 1 rubbish power, 1 middling power and 1 good power - pretty poor overall), a good AP ability (they score even here) and a solid defense boost to will (which helps a lot of Martial classes, whom SCC is takable by).

If you want to see a specific situation PP done right, take a look at expert mariner in the FRPG. Free skill training (+5 bonus) or a +2 bonus on top of anything you are trained in for anything on a ship is incredibly strong.

The PP does not define what is considered "outdoors" which can be a good or a bad thing. Good when you have a DM who uses a liberal interpretation, since he is going to count natural caverns (as long as it is not in the Underdark) and houses. Bad, because it is likely to generate discussions if the player and DM have a different opinion in this regard (as can happen in LFR).

Note that being able to snipe can be good, although not as much for rangers as for rogues...
