| #1The_SilverswordJun 06, 2010 14:39:39 | www.wizards.com/dnd/article.aspx?x=dnd/d... Surprised no ones posted this here yet. All in all a pretty good article. Lots of fluff! I love me some fluff. I think its great that the lesser gods are getting some spotlight. I would love to see more lore on the Exarchs. Suprised Nai hasnt posted about this one and complained about Erevan now appreantly serving Beshaba. |
| #2suin_bahhar_02Jun 06, 2010 15:20:20 | Erevan serving Beshaba was hinted at earlier by DeBie in Downshadow. I wonder whats the story behind it. |
| #318DELTAJun 06, 2010 15:51:55 | That's It, I am re-naming Beshaba to Twilight now...![]() Here is a thought. In 5 years when all of the Realms gods have a DDI article, they can print them up in book format and call it Faiths and Avatar's! ![]() |
| #4The_SilverswordJun 06, 2010 16:49:23 | Erevan serving Beshaba was hinted at earlier by DeBie in Downshadow. I wonder whats the story behind it. Ahhh, ok. I was thinking it might of been from a novel, I havnt read that one yet. Reading it in this article is the first I had heard of it. Im not sure of the story behind it, and I was a little taken aback, I mean shouldnt Erevan be serving Corellon? But I beleive Erevan had the Luck portfolio as well so it does make some sense. The article also mentions that Erevan is a possible Tripple agent, secretly serving Tymora as well. Knowing Erevan I would say thats correct. Hes probably got both of them fooled.
That would be very cool, and Id definitely buy that, however I hope we dont have to wait 5 years for it! |
| #5Nai_CalusJun 06, 2010 20:01:01 | I don't have a DDI sub, that's why. From the sounds of it I need to rage incoherently anyway. Godsdamn it, does the Seldarine need to be raped any freaking more than it already was? Leave the blasted pantheon alone. And Erevan's never come across as being particularly the dark side of CN, for that matter, that's Shevarash and his little hate party and flirting with Shar. Grargh. |
| #618DELTAJun 06, 2010 20:01:47 | Well they have to publish articles on the Core Gods, the Eberron Gods, good thing Dark Sun has no Gods , and the Realms Gods. Lets not forget the next setting that should be announced at GenCon this year...![]() |
| #7Nai_CalusJun 06, 2010 20:05:09 | I mean, yes, Erevan is a bastard, but he's always seemed to me like a nice bastard. Sure, he'll steal your wallet, but you'll get it back with your various forms of ID intact, and he'll only use your credit card to buy a case of beer. |
| #818DELTAJun 06, 2010 20:05:11 |
Now this is appropriate 'threadcrapping'... ![]() |
| #9Nai_CalusJun 06, 2010 20:08:02 | And yes, Erevan is an exarch of Corellon according to the FRCG so yet more WTF. And yes I am annoyed enough about this to post three times without editing. Erevan is my second favourite member of the Seldarine after Corellon. What's next, Corellon didn't create the elv- Oh wait they already implied that in one of the ask the designer threads. |
| #1018DELTAJun 06, 2010 20:35:40 | |
| #11sfdragonJun 07, 2010 0:41:23 | whhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat Erevan serves that blackhearted banshee now?? or did someone make a mistake?? Erik??? |
| #12Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 9:35:27 | Eriiiiiiiiiik, you got some 'splainin to do! |
| #13JorunhastJun 07, 2010 10:35:34 | www.wizards.com/dnd/article.aspx?x=dnd/d... For those of us without DDI, could someone post a summary of main points? That way we could at least discuss those points rather than having this become another spam-o-rama thread? If players worship Tymora as a patron deity, do they get a luck (dice roll) bonus of some sort? If they do, is it overpowered or is it just a flavor-oriented thing for non-combat? And Erevan serving Tymora? Seems unlikely, unless there really are no longer any pantheons and all deities are really just imaginary constructions around a single good deity, a single evil deity, and a neutral deity (which in 4E would be... unaligned or whatever). |
| #14The_SilverswordJun 07, 2010 12:04:28 | Erevan is still an Exarch of Corellon, and is still a member of the Seldarine. Elven deities ussually would ally themselves with gods of other races with similiar portfolios. In this case Erevan has allied himself with Tymora and Beshaba. He is appreantly openly serving Beshaba, and is consindered head of her church, however the article hints that he is secretly helping out Tymora as well, so really hes playing both sides here. Which to me definitely seems like an Erevan thing to do. |
| #15Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 12:30:48 | Wait, what. Why is a god serving as the head of another god's church, especially one it's never struck me as particularly likely he'd have much of anything to do with? (What with the whole 'appearing in his enemies section in Demihuman Deities' thing and all) Hell, quoting: "Erevan has long-standing rivalries with other rogue powers, including Beshaba and Mask, for their cruelty and greed offends the Tricksters light-hearted nature." Er. *sigh* |
| #16JorunhastJun 07, 2010 12:33:51 | Erevan is still an Exarch of Corellon, and is still a member of the Seldarine. | #17Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 12:38:22 | Shattered Realms indeed. That's it. 4E FR never happened. 3E FR never happened either for that matter, especially not the end bits of it. It's all a bad AU dream. |
| #18JorunhastJun 07, 2010 12:55:33 | Shattered Realms indeed. Well, I don't know that it's that unusual for Erevan. He's done weirder things, after all, like changing form and romancing a male ki-rin god - and Erevan later gave birth to the lesser fey deity of unicorns and pegasi (reminds one of the Norse god Loki giving birth to Odin's mount Sleipneir). Acting as the head of Beshaba's church, if that's what he's doing, seems... uh... minor by comparison. He does have significant rivalry with other rogue deities, but he'd also be the first one to build something up to trick them. But it is a little odd, and I wouldn't be all that thrilled by having yet another deity wandering around in physical form on Faerun just for kicks... but it's far from the weirdest thing he's done (if that is indeed what is happening, I haven't read the article as I refuse to get DDI). Particularly if he's got a major prank to play on Beshaba at some point. |
| #19eriksdbJun 07, 2010 14:22:24 | OK, guys, *don't panic*. It'll all make sense. I'll be back to clarify. Cheers |
| #20Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 15:28:41 | I dearly hope so, you like Erevan better than to **** him like that. ;~; But my copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has 'Panic' written on it in small, unfriendly letters so I have to panic. |
| #21eriksdbJun 07, 2010 15:33:02 | Well, you got a bum edition then. You should send your version back for the updated version--you know, the one that's added "Mostly" to the description of the earth. Cheers |
| #22eriksdbJun 07, 2010 15:42:18 | Hee hee! Erevan pranked you all. ![]() Correct version going up sometime soon. Cheers |

| #25gomeztooJun 07, 2010 17:57:11 | I worked on some software once that, when it caused an error, would start with telling people to DON'T PANIC! For some odd reason, nobody who got those messages ever heeded it. Gomez |
| #26Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 18:03:32 | I do have the updated version, though. The nifty new one that looks like a raven. (Why I'm re-reading Mostly Harmless I don't know. I hated it the first time too.) And let's hope they actually fix it this time. |
| #27sfdragonJun 07, 2010 18:08:40 | rather blows to be me, I have to wait a few more months before I get another subscription.... mine canned out after I downloaded the first one |
| #28eriksdbJun 07, 2010 19:29:00 | Well, the correct version is up now. I'll spoil it just a little for sfd's benefit: Lilten (who appears briefly in Downshadow and may well reprise his role in future writings of mine) is the former high priest of Erevan, who abandoned his deity-turned-exarch in the wake of the Spellplague. Lilten walks the line between a variety of luck deities, though most recently he's been outed officially as the high priest of Beshaba . . . unless that's just a cover. Lilten and Erevan are NOT the same person . . . Or *are* they? Dun dun dun! Cheers P.S. So . . . anything else about the article strike your fancy/get your goat? |
| #29sfdragonJun 07, 2010 19:39:41 | that would be what the fey jack wants us to think |
| #30Nai_CalusJun 07, 2010 20:01:29 | Unless~... Clearly it's all a plot by Labelas Enoreth to get back at Erevan for all the pranks Erevan's played on him over the years. |
| #31AegeriJun 07, 2010 20:24:48 | Did you do the mechanical crunch in the article Eirk? Quite liked it actually and both the holy symbols are quite nice as well. |
| #32eriksdbJun 07, 2010 20:59:33 | I can't take full credit for the crunchy bits--Matt revised a number of my original ideas. I do like how they turned out--and the holy symbol was all me. ![]() Cheers |
| #33The_SilverswordJun 07, 2010 23:54:18 | Are you saying that Erevan is walking around on Faerun, as a kind of avatar, physically acting as the head of Beshaba's church? Well Erik is trying to "retcon" that it seems, but yes I beleive he is. You dont think Erevan travels the Realms in Avatar form, picking pockets in Waterdeep, then perhaps slipping things into pockets in Westgate, Pulling a chair out from under a judge of Baldur's Gate, acting as the High Priest of Beshaba's church? Yes, that is how Erevan rolls. |
| #34eriksdbJun 08, 2010 0:25:05 | No retcons here! The actual head of Beshaba's church (or at least *one* of them*) is, indeed, a sun elf called Lilten, who appears in my novel Downshadow and in the recent D&D Encounters season 1 (Halaster's Lost Apprentice). Whether Erevan ever spends any time pretending to be him (or vice versa), or they really are the same person . . . that's better left to speculation. And I have never been under any impression but that Erevan delights in exactly the sort of mischief you describe. ![]() Cheers |
| #35gomeztooJun 08, 2010 1:08:33 | Well, I guess that explains something, at least. Channel Divinity: Beshaba would have been interesting (though not much use for some people, her being evil and such), especially as Tymora already got some DDI love. Gomez |
| #36Nai_CalusJun 08, 2010 1:22:15 | Quick, someone find something that was retconned and retcon it. It does not necessarily have to be reverted to the original state. |
| #37The_SilverswordJun 08, 2010 2:08:56 | Quick, someone find something that was retconned and retcon it. It does not necessarily have to be reverted to the original state. Retcon a retcon? lol ok Iron Fang Keep (my most hated retcon) is actually, and has always been, a giant hamster wheel. Fluffy, the giant space hamster who endlessly runs in the wheel, is part of Alaundo's prophecies. It is said that when the space hamster stops running, the world will end. But back on topic. Maybe its not a retcon, but the original article clearly states that Lilten is actually Erevan, and yes I agree that its better to leave it open for speculation, but I'm still going with the original article. And that definitely something that Erevan would do.... or is it? |
| #38gomeztooJun 08, 2010 2:29:03 | I retcon gnome low-light vision to x-ray! By the way, could one be a Tester AND a Fatemaker? Because both philosophies sound like they fit my deva invoker of Tyc... eh Tymora. Gomez |
| #39JorunhastJun 08, 2010 6:10:39 | Are you saying that Erevan is walking around on Faerun, as a kind of avatar, physically acting as the head of Beshaba's church? Well, one of the biggest complaints about 2E-3E was that gods wandered around Faerun like they were high level NPCs instead of gods. It encouraged the use of deities as DMPCs, instead of as gods that were mysterious, immensely powerful and inscrutable. For a god of rogues, regular humans wouldn't be much of a challenge to prank or steal from. He should be pranking other gods, stealing things from celestials and demons. I mean really think about it. Put yourself in Erevan's place for a moment. You're nearly omnipotent and way above genius level, and you supposedly hang out on Faerun to steal meaningless (to you) trinkets? Where's the challenge in that? It would be like you or me walking up behind a baby and stealing their baby's rattle or their blanket (haha! tricked that baby!). It's just ridiculous to have the gods walking Faerun and operating like they're NPCs. |
| #40JorunhastJun 08, 2010 6:16:48 | No retcons here! Big errors that should've been caught by an editor... not exactly inspiring me to get DDI. In fact, because it wasn't just a typo and was changed so quickly, it almost makes me wonder if the error didn't accidentally spoil a "reveal" for an upcoming novel. |
| #41Lord_ToastJun 08, 2010 7:04:01 | You are not fooling anyone. You are never going to purchase DDI.... or will you...what if they sent you bright shiny electurm piece in the mail? |
| #42JorunhastJun 08, 2010 7:09:19 | You are not fooling anyone. You are never going to purchase DDI.... That might work. Toys and other shinies always inspire me. ![]() Never underestimate the power of the shiny object! ![]() |
| #43eriksdbJun 08, 2010 9:11:04 | But back on topic. Maybe its not a retcon, but the original article clearly states that Lilten is actually Erevan, and yes I agree that its better to leave it open for speculation, but I'm still going with the original article. And that definitely something that Erevan would do.... Well, it’s your Realms and you can do whatever you want in your game. If you like the idea of Erevan walking on the dark side (either for real or as part of a larger scheme), that’s totally up to you. You can learn more about this whole issue by checking out my FR novels, as I said above. And for the record, I agree that it’s silly (not to mention against 4e design philosophy) to have the gods wandering around pranking mortals. Excepting, of course, mortals they have a keen interest in—but that’s another story. Big errors that should've been caught by an editor... not exactly inspiring me to get DDI. Just to clear up any misunderstanding here, this was just a goof, and one that was quite happily fixed. In retrospect, particularly since it’s about Erevan, it looks as though the universe was just playing a prank on us. There’s no reason to get mean about it. As anyone in the writing/gaming/publishing industries can tell you, typos and mistakes happen—you can’t measure the value of a product based on how many mistakes get made, only on how the writer/publisher *deals* with the mistakes made. And in this case, a speedy response and complete fix speaks pretty well of the powers that be. In fact, because it wasn't just a typo and was changed so quickly, it almost makes me wonder if the error didn't accidentally spoil a "reveal" for an upcoming novel. Oh, now that would be too obvious, wouldn’t it? ![]() If anything, one is supposed to wonder if Lilten and Erevan are the same person (and some people DO think they are). But it’s way, WAY more complicated than that. And that’s all I’m going to say at the moment about that. Cheers |
| #44JorunhastJun 08, 2010 12:30:55 | ...And for the record, I agree that it’s silly (not to mention against 4e design philosophy) to have the gods wandering around pranking mortals. Excepting, of course, mortals they have a keen interest in—but that’s another story. Gods walking around in mortal form, that was one of the gigantic problems with novels during 2E and 3E. Why can't the gods be gods, mysterious and somewhat inscrutable, rather than just extremely powerful NPCs? If they're written like there isn't an order-of-magnitude difference, then there isn't. ...just a goof, and one that was quite happily fixed. In retrospect, particularly since it’s about Erevan, it looks as though the universe was just playing a prank on us. There’s no reason to get mean about it. And in this case, a speedy response and complete fix speaks pretty well of the powers that be. I don't think I was being mean, really. Slip-up mistakes are normal and expected, and usually are typos or using the wrong pronoun. When it's a pretty lengthy content error, it's a little suspicious. This has the feel of an editor who has either skimmed instead of reading through, or it's one of those "planned whoops!" done to get peoples' attention. I'm just saying what it feels like, not saying it to be mean. But we'll never really know, and I don't really care all that much. Oh, now that would be too obvious, wouldn’t it? Either by accident or by plan, it seems to have generated some chat. ![]() |
| #45eriksdbJun 08, 2010 13:00:33 | Well then. My apologies for implying that you were being mean. The whole "well that's just DDI for you--epicfail!" attitude was what irked me. But if it's not a thing, it's not a thing.Either by accident or by plan, it seems to have generated some chat. I could be really devious and say that was TOTALLY my goal, but I'll just be honest. Near as I can figure, it really *was* one of those inexplicable divine moments where Erevan himself just decided to mess with us. (You and me both, brother!) Cheers |
| #46JorunhastJun 08, 2010 13:11:25 | Well then. My apologies for implying that you were being mean. The whole "well that's just DDI for you--epicfail!" attitude was what irked me. But if it's not a thing, it's not a thing. No worries, I can totally understand if people think I'm being mean to DDI or 4E Realms and whatnot, but it's more that I really, really just want to be sucked in to the Realms like I was before. I don't think it's because I'm older, and I don't think it's because of the warcrafty changes. I totally get sucked into some TV shows like Legend of the Seeker and I loves me some Warcraft... but for some reason I don't have that vaccum-like pull to run to the store (or amazon digital) and buy Realmsy stuff. I -so- want that back, and I'm trying... but it's hard because I'm also stubborn and bitter. ![]() Either by accident or by plan, it seems to have generated some chat. OMG YOU ARE EREVAN! ![]() |
| #47eriksdbJun 08, 2010 13:18:38 | Well, JH--I completely understand and sympathize. And I am trying my damnedest to create the sorts of things that will pull you in just like that. That's just me. (And of course, a few insidious pranks on the side!) Cheers, Erevan--I mean, Erik |
| #48Nai_CalusJun 09, 2010 0:03:38 |
You just now figured that out? Sheesh, I've known it for months. |
| #4918DELTAJun 09, 2010 0:58:44 | The creepy avatar gave it away... |
