-We ARE getting that third forum. Starting in a few weeks, it's going to be:

  • Forgotten Realms: Realmslore
  • Forgotten Realms:Running the Realms
  • Forgotten Realms: General Discussion

-In the General area, that's going to be the place for the Ask-the-Author threads, things like book reviews, things like, "Why I hate/love X", community projects, like Elves of Faerûn, and the Kara-Tur Re-Dux, and so on.

-I estimate that this will cause the Realmslore to drop from about 30-50 threads on average to about 20-40 on average, Running the Realms to more or less stay the same, around 15-20 (maybe a little rise, with the FRPG coming out soon), and the General section with similar numbers (10-20).

Does that mean the resurrected orc thread would go to general?

My man, as I said in your numbers thread, I still thinks this needs to be more specific. Even now, I see a lot of "Running the Realms" leaking over to "Realmslore."

When a returning member comes back after hiatus or a newbie comes on looking for certain answers, they should immediately figure out where they need to go.

I have no bias against "General Discussion," besides that it becomes too general, but "Running the Realms" should definitely be retitled to include the specification for rules if so.

Just my take.

Yes.

I'm now going to kill an orc for sport.

Hey, maybe it can be called Ruling the Realms or Realms Crunch.
The last one sounds like a cereal but who the hell cares. Gamers eat cereal still right? ;)

Anyway since LK is constantly checking the boards I am sure the proper thread will find its proper "home" one way or the other. :D

-The description of the thread includes "discuss these mechanical aspects...", the term mechanical indicating all of the D&D rule stuff.

-And, while maybe it's clear cut for me, and not others, but 'General' is where to go when your thread doesn't fit in either other section. When people err, though, I'll move it. No big deal.

Well, there is a bit off difference when you have been around and know the basic flow of things and where you might have left off a few weeks or months back. You and I know a bit of where things should be.

Just saying that this, like any board, needs some clear-cut titles. The first thing that jumps out at a person is the title of the link--not the 6pt font of the description underneath. Which is my point about posts popping up on boards that shouldn't.

Then you get the fact that 80% of everything seems to turn into a debate.

My concern is that if you want clear cut lore, then go to this forum. You want clear cut rules?--go to this forum. Got something you believe you know or want checked?--visit this forum.

When canon is canon and rules are rules, there should be no place for arguing. It is what it is. Sure, there may be some back and forth to clarify things, but opinion should not be involved in the conflict.

Betcha can't kill just one. :P

If he's squatting in my poop place and I need to do a doody, then yeah. You bet your ass and mine I can.

-Understood. I think, though, that Realmslore and Running the Realms are fairly obvious. And then, of course, general is general.

-That's not true. That's where the best debates start. Different interpretations and such.

Again, you give more faith in the IQ of the masses than I do.

And, thus, my point over opinion and debate. The two are different.

When you begin with "I think...", "I believe...", or "I feel...", then it is an opinion.

When you begin with "What about...?", What if...?", "What is...?", then it is the so called "debates." Or a simple inquiry for clarification.

I've got no problem with having a back and forth concerning a subject. But when someone says, "You can find that on pg. ### of the ####, then it should be over.

Thanks and au revoir.

I concur.

Three forums - Fluff, Crunch, and 'discussion', would be best. If "Running the Realms" could somehow get a more mechanical focus, then that would be best.

Its a shame we couldn't have the 'Old edition FR' forum seperate, but I guess that would be too much to ask, considering how they are not only NOT supporting older editions, but are actively trying to get people to stop playing them.

Either way, I'm glad we are getting a third forum for FR - I only pop in here once in a while now, and the threads move off the first page so fast now I often miss them.

-That, with excellent titles, is exactly what the format is going to be: Realmslore is Fluff, Running the Realms is Crunch, and General is the potpourri that doesn't fit into the other two.

-I prevented that from happening. In short, it would not be the most efficient use of gaining a third board, just like it wasn't the most efficient way of using a second board, when we got the second board.

I'm very glad we didn't split for the older vs. newer Realms. We need to build community rather than reinforce the divide that people initially feel after the release of a new edition. Plus, all the history (excluding retcons and the like) is still largely applicable for 4E.

True. If we had a board for 4E and a board for the previous editions, we'd have to deal with people getting territorial about it, saying, "You can't post here, you don't like this edition, go back to your board, blah blah blah."

Yep, it'd be horrible. And things are calming down nicely already.

No -. I’m aware. Which is why I make my point in the first place.

You might get it.

If those titles were so “excellent,” then we wouldn’t be speaking of this, you muffinhead!

Speaking very generally, CM tends to ignore irritable squrriels, especially if they're trapped in someone's pants. Because that kind of thing never happens accidentally.

Which is why you are in my pocket, rodent. ;)
