So I'm looking at running a campaign on Returned Abeir. As such I am looking to compile as much information on Abeir (particularly Returned Abeir) as possible. Here is what I've come up with after only very brief reading of the FRCG and Grand History of the Realms. If other similar threads have been made, or if other information is available elsewhere on Abeir, please feel free to let me know where they are.

History
A United World

  • ??? DR: The world of Abeir-Toril is born.

  • ??? DR: An amphibious race flourishes in the vast single ocean of Abeir-Toril when the Dawn Titan Night Serpent steals the sun from Abeir-Toril's sky. Mass extinction spreads throughout Abeir-Toril as an Ice Age begins.

  • ??? DR: The Dawn Titan Ubtao assists the Estelar in slaying, imprisoning or banishing the remaining Dawn Titans.

  • -35,000 DR: The Ice Age finally ends with the Creator Races flourishing across Abeir-Toril once more.

  • -31,000 DR: The Batrachi are losing a war against the armies of Annam's brood. As a final gambit, the Batrachi release several Dawn Titans from imprisonment. The Estelar once more resume their war against the Dawn Titans until Ao splits Abeir-Toril into two, each of them identical to the other. The Dawn Titans are banished to Abeir to rule it as they see fit while the Estalar retain the right to rule Toril.

Abeir Geography on Toril

Potions of Abeir and Toril swapped, while other parts of Abeir were simply ripped from that world and placed on top of Toril. Most areas of each world remained unaffected, although as much as a quarter of Abeir was transported to Abeir.

Faerun
Several parts of Abeir were either swapped with Toril or simply ripped from Abeir and placed on top of Toril. The two largest parts within Faerun are a portion of the Shyr continent, while the majority of Tymanchebar was ripped out and placed atop Unther. These were the two largest lands to be moved from Abeir to Toril in all of Faerun. This must have left a scar on Abeir where Tymanchebar once was as nothing was taken from Toril to replace it.

Laerakond and Maztica
Unlike Tymanchebar, Maztica swapped places with Laerakond.

Other Regions
In order for the "up to one quarter of Toril has Abeiran land" to be true at least some of the other continents must have featured signficant portions of Abeiran landscape being brought into Toril.

The World of Abeir
Abeir now hosts Maztica where once Laerakond was. However it has many other continents and lands.

When Abeir-Toril was first split the world of Abeir would have featured a large continent to the west, along with Merrouroboros. However this supercontinent must have featured at least SOME fracturing as the savage continent of Shyr is ruled over by a Dawn Titan, while provinces of the Skelkor Empire lie nearby. These provinces cannot be on Shyr because then they would be overseen by Karshimis rather then Empress Gauwervyndhal.

Shyr
To the East of Laerakond/Maztica is the savagage continent of Shyr. It's in a similar location to Faerun, which is known because part of it was swapped with western Chessenta. It is ruled over by a Dawn Titan Karshimis, with the most populous race being genasi.

The Skelkor Empire
The seat of Skelkor exists on Laerakond, however before the continent was transported to Toril, it had several outposts across the eastern ocean onto lands neighbouring the savage continent of Shyr. One such province, Tymanchebar, managed to rebel against the Empress centuries ago and retained its freedom. However the majority of this province was also transported to Toril, leaving a scar behind.

Races of Abeir
It is known for a fact that the elven races don't exist in Abeir. However the following intelligent races do live there:

  • Humans

  • Dwarves

  • Halflings

  • Orcs

  • Half-Orcs

  • Giants

  • Galeb Dhur

  • Genasi

  • Dragonborn

  • Sentient Undead

------------

Also if you know of anything not mentioned, it would be great if you could post it here and I can add it. I've only just started documenting Abeir.

Look into the "Embers of Dawn" Mini-Campaign from Living Forgotten Realms (you can find them in the LFR download site), the info on the mini-campaign is canon.

In 2011, there will be a paragon campaign ("Steel Skies of Returned Abeir") as well (non-canon).

For the past history, you may want to look into the "Grand History of the Realms".

The Forgoten Realms Wikia entry has also good information

Ed has also written some things about Laerakond on candlekeep.com. You might want to Google those as well.
