| #1carbon_dragonJul 01, 2009 8:24:07 | I ran some FR characters in a game for a while, they got up to about 6th level. Then recently we decided to try playing 4th edition and we did. We kind of like the new system so we converted our characters and I've been running games for them. But at the time we started I didn't understand how much WotC changed the FR timeline. So now I have a game with converted characters, a couple of new ones including a warforged and a dragonborn (which are hard to explain with the old timeline) happening in a pre-spellplague world. So Mystra is still alive. Myth Drannor is still a haunted ruin, etc. I'm wondering if I should run some kind of adventure which would advance the characters somehow into the "modern timeline". Maybe get them to participate in the restoration of Myth Drannor or the spellplague or something. And I guess the few 4e type characters are there because the veil between worlds lets them sneak in here and there from the other D&D worlds? I'd like to explain it plausibly and maybe have a little fun in the bargain. Any suggestions? |

There's no reason to feel beholden to follow things 100% if you (or they!) don't want to. Other people who have posted here have mentioned that they play with the 4e rules in the pre-Spellplague setting. Obviously, the date that you are using right now will impact how "soon" the Spellplague and it's effects manifest themselves, if you decide to use it. |

Aye, I myself came up with the idea that during the ToT when Gond came to Lantan and gave them the formula of gunn-powder he also imparted to some of his high clergy the idea of "advanced Gondsmen" which he called Warforged. The Lantanese (sp?) then created "life-forges" where the warforged (or mech-men to their creators) were made. The warforged were made basically to do things from manual labor to guarding places and people of importance. The warforged, being sentient beings became angered by they're slavery and thus started a small scale war that led them to swim, sail, and even run off the island. This small collection of warforged then made it to another island only a few hundred miles off Lantan's coast. There they made their own nation called Trident (named for the three large mountain peaks that form the ridge line). As for going 100+ years into the future, I don't see a reason to if your group is fine with a pre-spellplague Faerun. And as Lord Karsus said, there are easy ways to explain Dragonborn as well as other 4e races in Faerun. |

Warforged could be Netherese constructs that gained awareness, Ruamathri Battle Constructs from There war with Narfell. There is sooo many ways you could spin it. Heck warforged were the creation of one of Halaster's Heir's, then when Halaster died the were awakened with fragments of Halaster's essence. ![]() ![]() |
