So, I have played D&D beofre, as have all my players to be, although none have played 4E. I plan to use to Faerun campaign setting, focusing on Cormyr at first. The large starting plot is going to revolve around Netherese spies infiltrated in the Royal Court. As we are atarting the group during a trip, around three players will drop out of the group, so I want to start them off in a way that allows for some characters to leave without it looking weird. I was thinking that the party gather as merenaries, sent by the guard capitain of one of the larger cities into the borders of Sembia to rush a rising goblin stronghold that has been raiding Cormyr. I'm having trouble linking these two plots toghether, any thoughts?

-First off, what era are we talking about? Pre- or Post-Spellplague?

Right, right. This is post spellplague. Interestingly enough I think the final party will have four dragonborn and one human.

-The Stonelands have always been rife with Goblinoids. To link the two, perhaps the PCs figure out that the Goblins have support/are being trained/whatever by Sembians. The PCs discover these Sembians, beat them up, whatever they have to do, and the Sembians disclose the information concerning the spy. Perhaps, because they are Sembians, a "If we tell you this, you let us go" type of thing.

Hmmm, that could work, although I want this plot to last longer. I guess I could extend it by making the road from "Have the info" to "Save the day" a tough one. This groud does like its intrigue.

-That was just the general concept I was thinking of. You can- and should- of course, build on that. The PCs are going to be mercenary bounty-hunter types: Give them a couple of "missions" at the lower levels, to 'cement' their reputation. When you want to start the other plot, have some Royal messengers seek out those adventurers because of their reputation. Have multiple Goblin forts, instead of one. Have the Sembians with the info elude capture, causing the PCs to have to go after him/her/them again.

-There's plenty you can do to make it "Epic", as opposed to "Ho hum, go here, do this, yada, yada, yada..."

Ah, that gives me some ideas. If I can get them to go deep into Sembia it could be some tense roleplaying.

-Especially if you (or the players themselves) have them affiliated with the crown of Cormyr more than just "passing through" adventurers would be.

um...

I'm kinda confused. I know not of this 'Cormyr' you speak of. Is that some province of Aundiar?

I think you might be in the wrong section ;)

Strange, this post is 3 days old - was it moved to the Eberron Lore board by accident?

-Yes, yes it was. I put in the order to move it to Running the Realms, not Eberron Lore. Stuff happens, though...

-Bump to give the OP some coverage, after having the thread misdirected.
