After a good while I'm finally going to play DnD again I'm going with the church of Cyric as the big bad guys and it got me wondering, "who if any of the demon princes would be a strong ally for Cryric?" Is there anything lore related to this? I wanna hear your input. Thanks in abvance

Apr 20, 2011 0:36:42 From what I recall, he had alienated or tried to gank everyone around him, so I can't think of any allies the guy has, except those he can bribe... and who they might be, who the hells knows.

You're just some fiend who he'd devour as soon as look at if given half a chance... better off helping to take the bastard down than giving him any more of an edge than he already has. Sure there's the inexperienced noob godling thing going on, and some opportunistic Yugoloth might hook up with him thinking he could run a peel on him, or end up with the better end of the deal, but it'd be hard to imagine they wouldn't double cross him the first chance they got.

Apr 21, 2011 11:02:27 I dont particularly like the concept, but for your setup the new Chained God Tharizdun would probably be a perfect candidate:

- they are both imprisoned

- Cyric is mad enough and resentful enough to unleash hell on Faerum

- the Voidharrow may help Cyric escape.

- you would be using brand new canon.

Apr 23, 2011 19:56:07 I'd say any demon, regardless of power level, could POTENTIALLY be an ally to Cyric. Is Cyric untrustworthy? Yes. Will he stab you in the back? Yes. However, what exactly sets Cyric's traits above those of even the lowliest of demons? All of them, given the opportunity, would do the same. In many ways Cyric is an even more stable ally because, being a deity and not a demon, while he may share goals and objectives with a demon, their interest and reasons behind them could differ sufficiently to provide a 'zone of trust'. In other words, an area in which it isn't beneficial for either side to betray the other because it either undermines their long term goal or they'd simply have no interest.

My vote goes to Yeenoghu the Beast of Butchery, Ruler of Ruin, the Demon Prince of Gnolls. Through Yeenoghu, you'd also gain an alliance with Doresain, the King of the Ghouls whose layer of the Abyss was conquered by Yeenoghu, and as a result subsequently swore fealty to the Beast of Butchery.

Yeenoghu is fairly simple minded and is easily manipulated by Cyric. Savagery and slaughter would please Yeenoghu immensely, and it would also satisfy Cyric's aims as a deity of murder and strife. Meanwhile, while Gnolls and demons in the service to Yeenoghu ravage the country side, you have the cultists of Cyric working behind the scenes - weaving elaborate lies and schemes to further their own objectives. In effect, Yeenoghu becomes a distraction - but benefits greatly as a result.

There is only a small chance of betrayal on the part of either side, primarily on Yeenoghu's more so than Cyric's. (Yeenoghu suddenly deciding that slaughter isn't enough, that he wants his children to RULE instead. That becomes a problem.) In the end, though, both sides benefit from the arrangement. Even if Cyric's plans fail he's still furthered his portfolios of murder and strife through the manipulation of the Demon Prince and his Children.

Apr 27, 2011 22:32:05 Cyric had some agents starting to poking around with the Netherese Shades c.1375 DR. They were not actually working together but seeking similar goals which lead to Cyric and Shar working against Mystra and Azuth. It gets pretty deep into Celestia and Hell eventually stirring up Asmodeus and his foul lackies.

There are so many intrigues Graazt could be easy to involve as well. Lolth was gathering up Domains along this time which would disturb Graazt, Orcus (though banished by Gareth Dragonsbane c.1358 DR) and any other Demonlords with the shifting powers growing with Lolth in the Abyss. There would be alot of backstabbing and double deals with a union with Cyric.

Loviatar and Tiamat are going to end up leaning toward Bane. Don't forget Bane and Cyric got that whole separation atmosphere going on with the Zhents along this time. Lots of rich materials to work into a game.
