| #1elvenavengerMay 11, 2009 19:39:56 | well when i finished the lady pentiant series i was like kick ass we got more elves. Now i have always been a big fan of Drow dont get me wrong but i never understood why they had to get rid of dark elves as well. however my main problem right now is........ there is absalutly zip mentioned about dark elves in the source books. well correction they mention the city of hope but thats it. I think something as big as an entire new freakin race would spark at least a cliffnote or something or mabe a side bar but we got crap. sorry for the rant so now back to busness is there any lore on Dark Elves after they have returned and where can i find it? |
| #2phelf_der_zemitMay 11, 2009 19:55:24 | They really just became wood elves. Offically they have different lore but the public of faerun haven't made a big deal I don't think. Or I could be putting my foot in my mouth. |
| #3sfdragonMay 11, 2009 20:56:18 | the hidden city in miyritar um so I cant spell it. I also think Mr. Baker said they might show up in a dragon mag issue at some point. but times changes, things change. and the time may never come for any more info in it |
| #4lord_karsusMay 11, 2009 21:27:13 | -When situations like that pop up, where nothing is said about a specific person/race/place/thing/item/whatever, we're to assume that nothing has changed about that person/race/place/thing/item/whatever. So, because there are no mentions, we should assume that they're still all out there, doing their thing (whatever that is). |
| #5markustay63May 12, 2009 9:55:48 | We could also assume the guys in charge didn't know anything about that particular subject, or more likely, didn't personally care for it. We could assume all kinds of things..... ![]() |
| #6lord_karsusMay 12, 2009 11:49:21 | -That's also a possibility, being that things that are important and/or liked would get coverage, while the things that aren't wouldn't. -All in all, perhaps the designers were scratching their heads as to why what happened at the end of Ascendancy of the Last happened, and did their best to forget it, and in turn, cause everyone else to forget it, doing everyone a favor, of sorts. |

True--it's important not to mistake good luck for bad luck. |

At a water cooler somewhere in the WotC offices... You know, John, I have an embarassing admission to make. What is it, Mike? Well, uh, I just read Ascendancy, and... well, it doesn't seem to make sense, you know? It's fantasy, Mike. Why should it make sense? Weeell, let's just say it makes less sense than usual. Really? Uh... what happens in it, actually? I was a little busy and, ah, couldn't finish it. <> Er... what? Yeah. How did that happen? That would derail all our plans for the drow pantheon! So, uh, what are we going to do about it? We have a setting book to publish in a few months? Well, we will just brush it under the carpet, as usual. Points of light, trimming the fat, that kind of thing What if someone asks us about more details? Uh, we will say we were going to put it into Insider, or something. We'll burn that bridge when we cross it. Ok. Hey, are you coming to the 40K tournament this weekend? Sure, you think I'd miss it? |
| #9elvenavengerMay 12, 2009 15:44:29 | Well i wouldnt say it was totally bad luck or good luck because It did fix the big mistake of punishing all Dark Elves many of them didnt even do anything wrong. Its just I dunno i think they should of gotten a sidebar or something but dark elves wernt the only elven race to not really get mentioned so i guess it will appear in a later supplament |

Its just I dunno i think they should of gotten a sidebar or something but dark elves wernt the only elven race to not really get mentioned so i guess it will appear in a later supplament -There is not going to be any future Forgotten Realms sourcebook, if the current design philosophy continues as is. The Forgotten Realms got the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, and an adventure. That's all. Future information might come in the form of a DDI/online DRAGON article, if something on the matter comes down the pipes. |

I don't agree, because the "salvation" that was offered apparently was only extended to dark elves who worshipped Eilistraee and those who, by sheer accident of birth, happened not to have the aforementioned "tainted blood." |
| #12markustay63May 14, 2009 13:22:18 | Lets call it what it is - crap, plain and simple. The designers know it, and are ignoring it. Even they have their limits. Now if she had turned Lolth into the Goddess of Shadowy Spiders, they probably would have jumped al over it. :P And yes, saying someone is 'doomed' because of their bloodlines is so Old Testamnet/Original Sin that it's just plain gross. It's borderline racial intolerance, in fact. I just finished The Orc King a few minutes ago, and I have to say that I'm starting to think RAS is the only FR writer who understands cultural issues and social commentary. He painted Bruenor as a biggot... and he was. All Elves and Dwarves are. Only a moron takes sides with a concept born of ignorance. Fiends themselves can be redeeemed, but Drow with Fiendish Blood cannot? For shame, Smedman, for shame. Ok. Hey, are you coming to the 40K tournament this weekend? Pure Win. :D |
| #13elvenavengerMay 15, 2009 2:06:20 | Well they could be redemend per say but they would still be Drow. Now if they converted to worshiping Corellon then there is probly a ritural to turn them into Dark Elves. But you have to remember many Drow do not want to be redemend so they cant be helped. |
| #14lord_karsusMay 15, 2009 10:22:22 | Well they could be redemend per say but they would still be Drow. Now if they converted to worshiping Corellon then there is probly a ritural to turn them into Dark Elves. -They wouldn't be redeemed, as per Ascendancy of the Last, which used the buzzwords 'tainted' and 'redeemed' to define having the blood of Wendonai within them and to define not havig the blood of Wendonai within them. They could not worship Lolth (when have all Drow always worshiped her?), but who they have as a patron don't really affect their status as 'tainted' or 'redeemed', unless they are a clergy member of Eilistraee's church. But you have to remember many Drow do not want to be redemend so they cant be helped. -Why would they have a choice? Ascendancy of the Last spelled out that only the clergy of Eilistraee and those who haven't been tainted by the blood of Wendonai transformed into Dark Elves at the conclusion of the book. Regardless of whether or not they were naughty or nice, or if they wanted it or not, when the ritual was complete, they transformed. |
| #15rinonalyrna_fathomlinMay 15, 2009 11:52:23 | But you have to remember many Drow do not want to be redemend so they cant be helped. I'm sure many of the aforementioned "non-tainted" drow would not have wanted to be redeemed, if asked. Like I said, we're talking about a sheer accident of birth...and years (perhaps centuries) of each of these drow being immersed in Underdark culture. Yet, they all still got redeemed according to the story. It had nothing to do with "deserving" it or wanting it. |
