Dear WotC,
Thank you for the Oldspires map and key found in the hardback edition of the novel Spellstorm. The map is enormously useful to me as a Dungeon Master, as well as being helpful to follow the action in the novel itself.
Having access to a map and key to the ground floor of an old noble mansion in Cormyr provides me with ready inspiration for encounters and NPCs. The mansion map is large enough that I can repurpose it for use as the layout to an inn or a rooming house.
The sixty-nine keyed entries for the map are instructive as to what sort of rooms are found in a noble’s mansion (as well as what they’re called--good flavor, that), which helps me to visualize the mansion as a place that’s alive with purposeful activity, and not simply as a static backdrop to through a group of characters into.
I realize that not all novels require a map of this kind, but I hope you will consider including maps like these, when practical, in future novels.
