deities not inviting others to their birthday.

i'm curious about some inter-deity relationships that i've discovered on another site; while i realise that it may or may not be cannon, it's kinda puzzled me a bit.

said site claimed that Sharess - a rather obscure deity who figures prominently in my campaign - is specifically opposed to the following deities:

Elven Pantheon (choose one), Eilistraee, Ghaunadaur, Gruumsh

i could potentially see her hatred of gruumsh or slimer, because they (perhaps with a stretch) represent destruction and pain, things she's mostly against. however, my only connection between her and eilistraee is through the now subsumed zandilar (i reasoned that eilistraee felt that if sharess hadn't gotten involved in the situation maybe zandilar wouldn't have been absorbed by her, and she's upset that sharess screwed over a non-evil elven deity of outcasts?

another stretch). however, i have absolutely no idea why she'd hate someone at random in the elven pantheon - is there some anti-elven connection with sharess that i'm not seeing?

also, i felt the list would've included Shar, and Set, as when she was Bastet, both tried to destroy her - by absorbing her, and through being her pantheon's hated foe.

Whoever wrote that is either greatly mistaken, mixed up with another god, or has made some major changes for their home campaign.

Sharess's foes are Set, Shar, Loviatar. Her allies are Anhur, Hanali Celanil, Lliira, Milil, Nobanion, Selune, Sune.

And as noted, Sharess's enemies are Shar and Loviatar (don't know about Set, don't care much about him).

Well Sharess was Bast of the Egyptian pantheon so it would make sense for her to have an enemy in Set, also of the Egyptian pantheon.

But answer me this if you can: I remember reading somewhere that Sharess was an aspect of Shar. I brought this up in another thread but they threatened to burn me at the stake. Can some one tell me where i read that so i can slap it in their face? Ive looked through all the god books and the prayers of the faithful and even the old empires source books but cant find it now. Some one tell me that i do know what i'm talkin about and i havnt lost my mind?

Yeah, but the Supreme Throne is closed while the buzzkill trio's in charge. And it begs the question: What do you give a fellow god for his birthday? The destruction of a mutually despised deity?

You're nearly right. Powers & Pantheons gives Sharess's tale. For a long time, Sharess was increasingly falling under the sway of Shar, experimenting with darker pleasures, corruption, and decadence. In fact, before this time, she was known  as Bast, the name Sharess was only acquired due to Shar's influence. Many came to think of her as just an aspect of Shar.

This continued until the Time Of Troubles, when Sharess appeared as a concubine in Calimport, but Sune happened along, rescued her and washed her out with sacred waters. Since then, Sharess has been an independent and better goddess.

(In my game, if the PCs had investigated the Sharessin temple further, I had a selection of statues of different aspects of Sharess through the ages. One, taken away for indefinite cleaning, would have been that of a fading, drug-addicted prostitute. I imagined them as learning to balance good pleasure and bad, in moderation, and working to help addicts of all kinds.)

Hence why I find the good Loviatan concept intriguing. Sadly, the closest I've seen to a good Loviatan is the main character of Maiden of Pain. Which is just one of the many, many things I despise about that particular novel. May Kossuth burn its pages.

Slightly off topic, but on the subject of STD's...

...the first D&D Game I ever played in was DMed by a guy who didn't like me. (Long story short, I was friends with his boyfriend who was also playing in the game, and the DM and I had erm... heated words... exchanged after a negative event transpired between the two of them.)

So, anyway. I decide to play a D&D game with him, his boyfriend and a few other acquaintances. I roll up an Elven Fighter (Soldier). It wasn't set in any particular campaign setting, the DM was just making things up as he went.

However, since the DM did not like me very much, he continuously tried to think up ways to screw over my character. We played maybe six games total together, but in the second to the last game, one of the other PC's in the group was captured. We knew where he was being held, but it was guarded and we didn't know how to get inside. So my character came up with the idea: The town was obviously very seedy. There were prostitutes everywhere. He could use one of them to seduce one of the guards, and then during pillow talk have her probe the guard in a non-subtle way to learn the needed information.

So, to set this plan into motion, my character approached the Innkeeper and paid him. He requested that the Innkeeper locate the most talented prostitute in the city and send her to his room. This would not be an unusual request in this city, nor for an adventurer. The Innkeeper agreed.

My PC is waiting in his room when some hours later, the door is forced open. There is this big hulking female half-orc, described in gory detail, forcing her way inside. I forget the name the DM gave her, but it suited the character. She was meant to be as repulsive as possible.

The DM didn't even give my PC time to react, or even speak before she was already across the room. The DM then went on to describe – with a smile on his face – the horrific details of my little Elven Warrior being beaten and raped by a enormous Half-Orc woman.

Now, I'm a sick puppy with a twisted sense of humor. So I find all of this funny, and I am playing along. It's clear that the DM is venting his frustrations at me onto my character now, as he clearly enjoyed beating the crap out of him.

Finally, to tie it all together with this thread, in the end the DM had me roll a check to see if my PC got an STD. :P I passed much to his chagrin, but part of me wish I had failed just to see what horrible disease he could think up.

In the last session, as the game was coming to a close, in part to spite him and in part because I found it hilarious, my PC went back to said town. He went to look for the Half-Orc, because it was the best sex he had ever had. He showed up with a cure for disease and enough gold to ensure that he was pleasured for a lifetime. :P

I suppose some people might be turned away from D&D and gaming after an event like this, but being the twisted person I am, I had a blast and was drawn to it. Even after the group broke up, I sought to play with others.

That was my introduction to D&D.

Sure.... Blame it on that cheap grog you got in that tavern in the last small town you were in.

Oh, and it's in the Supreme Throne (yes, tangentially on-topic!).

LOL! Bullseye!

It was Labelas!!!!!!

Awww come on not Labelas! Besides if he did get a STD he could just go back in time and stop himself from getting it in the first place. but any way this brings up another point: STDs are mysteriously absent from the DMG. They got all kinds of other diseases in there but no STDs. We need to come up with some. What kinda STDs would you be likely to get from an elf any way?

Yes elves do have souls! Otherwise they would be like juju zombies, which theyre not, you can actually hold a conversation with an elf, not so much with juju zombies.

LM is the god of LAst of the Remaining Hands of Karsus

and has the domains of:

Legacy of LK
protection
Military might
combat magic

You know it to be true. Cool

Exarch of BAne and Helm

I'm sure LK'll be over the moon if he learns you don't consider him divine.

And I am the demi-god of confusion

Come now, you can claim more than just Confusion. How about Inquiry? You've been doing quite well interviewing Ed over at Loremaster. Common Sense would be applicable too.

Gee, now I want to start a FR Boards Residents Pantheon thread with the In Eldath's Name group forums.

Shevarash, the true heir to the throne of the Seldarine. *nods sagely*

2) Who would take his place at the birthday parties?

Erevan, cause he would love to get more presents.

Please, Corellon is so awesome he could kick Gruumsh's ass even as a mortal. Also, he's a L20 Wizard, he doesn't even need to be a god to re-write reality. :p

He wouldn't step down, though. He loves his children too much to ever abandon them, and he's used to the demands that being a Greater God places upon him.

Corellon is male, female, both and neither, and always has been. How he manages this, of course, is obvious: He's a frippin' Greater God.

More specifically, the first mention of Corellon's interesting gender ambiguity is in the first mention of Corellon ever, in the original Deities and Demigods.

By 2e they'd apparently gotten all whiny puritans about such things, and Corellon is mostly merely mentioned as androgynous in appearance, and they came up with that useless bitch Sehanine to be his wife, despite the fact that, you know, he didn't frickin' need one.

#202

The_Silversword

Right, right  he is a god after all and could appear as freakin Marry Poppins if he wanted to. I remember reading about him/her being both genders, which was probably in the old deities and demigods, i was thinkin it was Greyhawk specific, Ive never heard of him having a female aspect in the Realms, which is not to say he didnt have one of course. I know Labelas had a female aspect in the Realms as The orginal Symbul an old Yuir goddess.

Oh, Labelas shares Corellon's gender issues, always has. He was first detailed in Dragon #60, and yeah, he does the whole male and female thing too.

Hanali is also specifically mentioned at some point as sometimes appearing as male, I want to say it's also in her initial write-up in Dragon #60, but I'm too lazy to get it out and look. Pretty much the entire Seldarine is that way, though.

We've done it after each encounter. Treasure too. Or else both party and DM might forget something....

Granted if a spellcaster levels, he/she has to wait until after a period of rest to be able to prepare/learn/pray for new spells/spell levels.

The_Silversword

I dont ussually worry about XP until the end of the nights session then i add it all up and pass it out. If its enough to level up i try to get that out of the way that night so when the time comes to game again we all will be ready to go.

And yes as far as the video games go i ussually do get all wraped up in kiling things and taking their stuff. Actually i spend some time just wondering around, getting the lay of the land so to speak before i start on any missions or quests. This has really messed me up on Sacred as appreantly youre supposed to go in order or something so some of the quests dont load right and now i cant do them at all.

That is a pretty good idea. I might try using that. Of course i play with a rather indecisive lot, one guy has yet to pick any feats yet cause he cant make his mind up. 2 guys i actually had to roll up their characters. In their deffense they didnt have access to the character builder so they just gave me some details of what they wanted and i took it from there.

Well you still kinda level up in those games too, getting better at certain skills and what not, but yeah you dont get the Hit Point increase and all that. I know a lot of people that dont agree with Hit Points, but I like em, and I love leveling up. Its supposed to represent how much better you are at avoiding damage than actually being able to take more damage, although i think they could of worked that out a little better than just giving you more Hit Points, like maybe damage reduction or something. I admit i do like White Wolfs damage system, instead oh youre hit for 10 points of damage, its oh youre Bruised or Hurt or what ever.

#225

Stigger

Oct 15, 2009 13:31:44

They're very discrete increases though, and don't affect the character overall.  You spending XP on diplomacy skills doesn't affect your ability to take a hit or score one in the slightest.  That's the part I like the most, I can build those horribly cerebral characters who have glass jaws.

Thats exactly what I was gonna say! I liked the Tome and Blood, and ... well thats the only one I remember off the top of my head, then they went and just relesed those books again for 3.5 and stuck complete whatever on it. They better not do that with 4th, just relese the same stuff again and call it 4.5. That really, really turned me off of D&D for awhile. I loved 3e, but 3.5 was like a slap in the face. I guess it was some marketing genius's idea of how to make more money.

A few too many nuggets if you plan on reading the novel.

Although I'm not a fan of spellscars as a plot device. See also Downshadow for the whole "spellscar as a plot device".... Granted it gave a certain character a weakness one doesn't normally see in a heroic character....
