| #1BarachielJul 31, 2008 11:25:13 | I'm getting ready to run a FR game, and I've got enough to run except knowing whose dead and whose not in the Realms pantheons. I know a comprehensive list isnt' possible till Aug 19th, but I've heard a lot of the novels are already covering certain deities deaths, and some of the excerpts let names drop here and there. This basically lead me to the idea of doing up a quick census, tallying whose been confirmed as dead or alive in the realms pantheons, for those starting a campaign early. I'm sorting through material myself, but if anyone could post the status of a deity, preferably with a citation of where you got your info, I'd appreciate it. ![]() Thanks to all posters, especially GreenKnight and LordKarsus for the quick updates. Alive Bane Corellon Larenthian Cyric - Imprisoned Gruumsh - merging with Talos (possibly - it was heavily hinted at by RB) Ilmater Kelemvor Lathander/Amaunator (some kind of merger/transformation) Lolth Mask Selune - possibly now the same as Sehanine Moonbow Set - Rise in power, possibly god of Mulhorand or Thay Shar Siamorph - Move to Brightwaters Tempus Titania - Given the rather obvious introduction of the QoAaD in the Realms (se above), expect Titania to have some Realms-related lore as well Torm Tymora Dead Mystra - murdered by Cyric, first domino Deep Duerra - Slain by Clangeddin Eilistraee (killed by Lolth) Ghaunadaur - Lloth attempted to kill, but it turned out to be an elder deity of unknown origin Gorm Gulthyn - Dead Haela Brightaxe - Dead Helm - Dead, killed by Tyr over Tymora Kiaransalee Laduguer - Killed by Moradin Savras - Dead Selvetarm Vhaeraun - absorbed by Eilistraee MIA Azuth - Last seen "reeling into the Astral Plane" Bahamut - * Need Info* Queen of Air and Darkness - There is an NDA about her in regards to the Realms - which means she must be making an appearance at some point in the setting Sune - Likely still around (given the 1384 events in GHotR) Tiamat - * Need Info * Tyr - role greatly diminished in 4e Velsharoon - Last seen "reeling into the Astral Plane" Demoted (Exarchs) This section is uncomfirmed rumor, at best. Clangeddin Nobanion Red Knight |
| #2phelf_der_zemitJul 31, 2008 11:34:39 | I believe Lathandar is dead. Now known as the long dead Amauntor(sp?). And Mask is alive as well. Helm is dead I think. BUt don't quote me on that. |
| #3scizorJul 31, 2008 11:37:40 | The last few pages of Grand History have some information, confirming the deaths of Gorm Gulthyn, Haela Brightaxe, Laduguer, Deep Duerra, Helm (slain by Tyr), Mystra (again) and Savras. Azuth and Velsharoon are still alive but adrift in the Astral Plane. Cyric is imprisoned, but alive. |
| #4rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 11:38:05 | I believe Lathandar is dead. Now known as the long dead Amauntor(sp?). Lathander is Amaunator. And Mask is alive as well. Where was that confirmed? Helm is dead I think. He is dead. Tyr is also dead. |

| #6scizorJul 31, 2008 11:41:04 | How, when and why did Tyr die???![]() |
| #7markustay63Jul 31, 2008 11:41:21 | I'm sorting through material myself, but if anyone could post the status of a deity, preferably with a citation of where you got your info, I'd appreciate it. I fairly certain he didn't add an extra 'n' to his name in 4e. ;) How, when and why did Tyr die??? No-one knows - it was only mentioned in passing in a reference to Tymora (I think). I think GreenKnight killed him.... |
| #8rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 11:43:32 | How, when and why did Tyr die??? We don't know yet--the recent Dragon article on Cormyr mentioned that he was dead in the section about Tymora but did not go into any detail about it. |
| #9GreenKnightJul 31, 2008 11:44:40 | How, when and why did Tyr die??? http://www.wizards.com/download.asp?filename=365_Backdrop_Cormyr.pdf DC 30: Tymora has seduced dozens of deities and countless mortals over the centuries, but has remained curiously solemn and chaste since the death of her consort, Tyr. That's all we know, so far. I think GreenKnight killed him.... ![]() |
| #10lord_karsusJul 31, 2008 11:45:53 | -From the 4e FAQ: The Divine The Gods: Amaunator - Replaces/becomes Lathander in 4e Azuth - Last seen "reeling into the Astral Plane" Bane - Goes (Hard)core Bahamut - * Need Info * Cyric - Imprisoned Deep Duerra - Slain by Clangeddin Eilistaree - absorbs Vhaeraun, but finally killed by Lolth Ghaunadaur - Lloth attempted to kill, but it turned out to be an elder deity of unknown origin Gorm Gulthyn - Dead Gruumsh - merging with Talos (possibly - it was heavily hinted at by RB) Haela Brightaxe - Dead Helm - Dead, killed by Tyr over Tymora Ilmater - Becomes Jack Tripper, and moves into Brightwater () Laduguer - Killed by Moradin Lathander - Gone, most likely becomes Aumanator Lolth - Becomes Greater Power Mystra - Dead, murdered by Cyric Nobanion - Exarch Druid (but subject to change) Queen of Air and Darkness - There is an NDA about her in regards to the Realms - which means she must be making an appearance at some point in the setting Savras - Dead Selûne - re-absorbs her portion of Mystra, considered the same power as Sehanine Moonbow in 4e Selvetarm - absorbed by Lloth (GHotR) Shar - Still around and causing trouble Siamorph - Move to Brightwaters Sune - Likely still around (given the 1384 events in GHotR) Set - Rise in power, possibly god of Mulhorand or Thay Tiamet - * Need Info * Titania - Given the rather obvious introduction of the QoAaD in the Realms (se above), expect Titania to have some Realms-related lore as well Torm - rising in power and influence in 4e Tyr - role greatly diminished in 4e Velsharoon - Last seen "reeling into the Astral Plane" Vhaeraun - absorbed by Eilistraee |
| #11rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 11:48:07 | Alive If you could tell me were this was confirmed, I'd appreciate it. ![]() |
| #12GreenKnightJul 31, 2008 11:48:17 | Don't forget that Selune has risen to the rank of greater god according to Rich. If you could tell me were this was confirmed, I'd appreciate it. Just did a quick search and didn't find anything. Could've sworn I'd seen Rich say something about Mask still being around, but I guess I'm just talking out of my ass, here. |
| #13phelf_der_zemitJul 31, 2008 11:52:45 | If you could tell me were this was confirmed, I'd appreciate it. In one of the threads concerning his books I believe Mr.Kemp said that we didn't have to worry about his main character going godless for awhile. He never gave a direct answer because I'm sure that's a no-no. But he hinted at the fact that Mask would still be alive when 4e rolled up to the block. |
| #14BarachielJul 31, 2008 11:53:27 | @LordKarsus .... The one place I didn't look. Thanks, I feel like an idiot. Oh well, makes my job easier. |
| #15rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 11:54:35 | Regarding Mask: Thanks for the answers, guys. Still, it looks like we don't have a confirmation, just an educated guess. |
| #16GreenKnightJul 31, 2008 11:54:49 | In one of the threads concerning his books I believe Mr.Kemp said that we didn't have to worry about his main character going godless for awhile. Hah! Even when I'm wrong I'm right! |
| #17lord_karsusJul 31, 2008 11:55:07 | In one of the threads concerning his books I believe Mr.Kemp said that we didn't have to worry about his main character going godless for awhile. -Yup. @LordKarsus -Yup. |
| #18phelf_der_zemitJul 31, 2008 11:57:21 | So.. what happened to Shevarash? Playing a priest of his was tons of fun. I wonder if he'll hunt Dark Elves as well? The taint of the past doesn't wash off that easly in the eyes of a god. Or gods have a long memory. Or Gods hold grudges; either way I'm interested in how he turns out. In all honesty I don't think he'll make it to 4e. He's to small a player. 4e is really like a big, money hungery coporation. You know, "Walmart; P***ing on the little guy." Not that I don't love walmart or any money hungery coporation. I'm pretty much a take it where I can get it sort of guy. I"ll make one myself some day if I can. "Money Hungery" is the key words there. |
| #19rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 11:58:41 | So.. what happened to Shevarash? If he doesn't die, it's highly probable he'll wind up an exarch. |
| #20GreenKnightJul 31, 2008 12:00:08 | He was a demigod, anyway, so not a whole lot of difference, there. |
| #21lord_karsusJul 31, 2008 12:01:25 | I wonder if he'll hunt Dark Elves as well? The taint of the past doesn't wash off that easly in the eyes of a god. Or gods have a long memory. Or Gods hold grudges; either way I'm interested in how he turns out. -Shevarash was against Lolth, and Drow. Being as that Dark Elves aren't Drow, but instead are "Wild" Elves, he'd have no problem with them. Unless they continued their evil Lolthite ways. |
| #22rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 31, 2008 12:04:00 | He was a demigod, anyway, so not a whole lot of difference, there. True. |
| #23BarachielJul 31, 2008 12:06:15 | Have anymore Exarchs besides Nobanion been confirmed? It might be worth starting up a separate category in the OP for that if they have. |
| #24phelf_der_zemitJul 31, 2008 12:06:35 | That brings up another question. I know the Dark Elves make up a very small sect of the drow population, but will they change in anysort of way physcolagicly speaking? be more inclinded to do good? And if a priestess of Lolth turns into a Dark Elf will she still be able to practice her religion? Lolth's doctrine only allows Drow to worship her. Heavy thinking. |
| #25GreenKnightJul 31, 2008 12:09:40 | Have anymore Exarchs besides Nobanion been confirmed? It might be worth starting up a separate category in the OP for that if they have. I know the Red Knight and Clageddin Silverbeard have been confirmed as Exarchs/Demigods, at least. |
| #26lord_karsusJul 31, 2008 12:09:50 | Have anymore Exarchs besides Nobanion been confirmed? It might be worth starting up a separate category in the OP for that if they have. -Nobanion hasn't even been fully confirmed, really. He was, but then the article with him in it was quickly taken down, citing that that article, with that information, wasn't the "final cut". That brings up another question. I know the Dark Elves make up a very small sect of the drow population, but will they change in anysort of way physcolagicly speaking? -Yes. They cannot see in the dark, cast Darkness, Faerie Fire, it's likely they don't have the SR anymore... be more inclinded to do good? -No. Someone who is raised by adoptive parents thinking he/she is Italian, and then finds out that he/she is adopted, and is actually German isn't going to suddenly and randomly lose their "personality". And if a priest of Lolth turns into a Dark Elf will she still be able to practice her religion? Lolth's doctrine only allows Drow to worship her. Heavy thinking. -Yes, yes they will. Lolth allows more than just Drow to worship her. Her church might not allow others, but that isn't stopping Lolth herself. |
| #27markustay63Jul 31, 2008 12:10:34 | The one place I didn't look. Thanks, I feel like an idiot. You can't trust any of that guy's (FAQ) info - he's an opinionated jerk. :P You know, that 'Jack Tripper' joke just doesn't seem as funny anymore... :embarrass And I need to change Tyr's entry - 'diminished' is a helluva understatement. ![]() |
| #28BarachielJul 31, 2008 12:15:16 | You can't trust any of that guy's (FAQ) info - he's an opinionated jerk. :P You just described the entire population of these boards, myself included. :D |
| #29markustay63Jul 31, 2008 12:37:57 | Yup - sometimes we have to step back and poke fun of ourselves. ![]() |
| #30diremongooseJul 31, 2008 13:13:01 | Has there been any word on Hoar? I've been a fan of that religion since running a mostly Unapproachable East-ish game in 3.5. |
| #31markustay63Jul 31, 2008 14:54:59 | I think only Hoar, Sharess (Baast), Set, and Tiamet from the Mulan Pantheons will survive, because they are not overly derivitive, and have an established FR presence. I could be completely off-base here, but I really don't see them keeping the other Mulhorandi gods, given the direction of the changes. Hoar, if he makes it (and I can't think of any logical reason why he wouldn't), will probably just be an Exarch (demi-power) answering to some other power now (Torm?) |
| #32lord_karsusJul 31, 2008 16:00:53 | -Personally, I am thinking that the Mulhorandi and Untheric Pantheons, for the most part, were just other deities wearing "masks". That shtick. Some, like the aforementioned Tiamat, or Hoar, will seemingly survive, and flourish elsewhere. |
| #33markustay63Jul 31, 2008 16:35:36 | I'm thinking Ra was the other 'missing piece' of Aumanator, and Lathander re-merged with him to reform the original deity. Of course, that doesn't make a lot of sense since Nethereas Aumanator co-existed with Ra, but since Ra(Re)came back from the dead at some point, I'm thinking that maybe the second incarnation of him in FR was really Aumanotor's 'missing half'. But thats all a lot of guessing and wishful thinking. I just checked the dates - that would mean Aumanator would have had to have parted with a piece of himself a good 700 years before Netheril fell. Perhaps the big 'A' was already in decline the last millenia? |
| #34lord_karsusAug 02, 2008 23:07:49 | -Missing piece of Aumanator? What missing piece of Aumanator? |
| #35sfdragonAug 03, 2008 0:40:11 | he is saying that RA along with Lathander were both parts of Amuanator. oh and Hoar serving under Torm, not likely HE probably axed Tyr in a poetic form of Justice. only to find Tyr was set up, and axed himself. thus the no evidence part, everyone who new it are dead, save Cyric and Shar and they are not talking |
| #36BelorinAug 03, 2008 1:12:12 | Ghaunadaur makes an appearance in the FR adaptation of Thunderspire Labyrinth. He is the Realms version of Torog. Bel |
| #37BarachielAug 03, 2008 14:36:13 | We'll see what happens with Unther and Mulhorand. I'm more curious as the butchering of the Elven pantheon given how i have two elf characters in my game, but I'll just have to wait 2 more weeks for that info. |
| #38lord_karsusAug 03, 2008 14:49:46 | he is saying that RA along with Lathander were both parts of Amuanator. -But, we already know that Lathander and Aumanator, along with the holder of the dusk portfolio, were parts of a higher sun entity. Ghaunadaur makes an appearance in the FR adaptation of Thunderspire Labyrinth. He is the Realms version of Torog. -And, this begs the question: Who is Torog? |
| #39chrysAug 03, 2008 15:33:49 | he is the Points of light god of the Underdark,caves, and prisoners |
| #40markustay63Aug 03, 2008 15:37:06 | Didn't we already have Ibrandlin (sp?) for that? ![]() Though I think Shar killed him and took his stuff during the ToT. She started 4e early. :P |
| #41lord_karsusAug 03, 2008 15:44:38 | Didn't we already have Ibrandlin (sp?) for that? -Ibrandul. And, yes, yes she did. She did indeed kill him and take his stuff. |
| #42lord_karsusAug 03, 2008 15:45:47 | he is the Points of light god of the Underdark, caves, and prisoners -Ah, thank you. Now...How exactly is Ghaunadaur linked with that. His portfolios don't exactly match very well. Is this explained in the adaptation article, or just stated? Because, yeah, this is Shar's stuff, the Underdark, and caves. |
| #43BelorinAug 03, 2008 17:46:56 | Just stated in a table on page 107 of Dungeon 156. Bel |
| #44Cohen95Aug 03, 2008 18:02:53 | Is there a clear hier(ess) to Mystra's portfolia as god(dess) of magic? Particularly, I'm wondering who Ioun from core will translate most accurately into. |
| #45lord_karsusAug 03, 2008 18:12:21 | Just stated in a table on page 107 of Dungeon 156. -Feh, oh well then. Is there a clear hier(ess) to Mystra's portfolia as god(dess) of magic? -There isn't going to be a deity of magic at all. At least, not in the sense that Mystra was, as an all-encompassing deity of magic. If a deity is indeed appointed this mantle, it defeats the entire purpose of culling Mystra to begin with. |
| #46mackay88Aug 04, 2008 10:32:09 | While I'm sure this is a longshot, has anyone heard any mention of Gargauth? Since he was a (very) minor demipower I have a feeling that he's been a) killed b) absorbed by Bane or made into his Exarch or c) knocked back down to an Arch-devil and sent back to the Nine Hells. I'm not holding my breath on his survival, and I'm reluctantly ready to turn my sleazy moon elf cleric of Gargauth into a sleazy cleric of Bane... |
| #47lord_karsusAug 04, 2008 10:48:31 | -Haven't heard nothing. Like you said, he'll probably become an Exarch. Note, though, that being demoted into Exarch status isn't exactly being killed. I mean, they still exist, so... |
