| #1naexJul 19, 2008 19:15:45 | In Serpent Kingdoms, the Sarrukh of Okoth had returned to their ancient homeland, on the Lake of Salt between southern Mulhorand and Unther, after millenia of wandering the planes. The Khaastas followed them back to the realms, angry that the Sarrukh had tried to control them. My question is, how are those two groups faring, and if still around, how might the Sarrukh feel about a large kingdom of Dragonborn right next door. I doubt their control over lizard types would work, since it doesn't affect dragons (IIRC) but I could be wrong... Thoughts? |

I don't know, according to the core lore so far Dragonborn were created by Io to serve the dragons as loyal servants and companions so I don't think they would be linked with the Sarrukh. Plus the fact that they came from a reality whose origins most likely lie with the abberations, and I highly doubt the creator races of Abeir are the same as those of Toril. If you want more on the Sarrukh, get Serpent Kingdoms, which is an excellent supplement which details the origins, societies, intrigues, and mysteries of the scaly races of Faerun. Also, I do imagine the Khaasta would be a bit peeved if a bunch of creatures that look just like them suddenly just plopped down and got in the way of them and the lands of their enemies.;) |

But thats non-canon... I just try to reason why it would work on certain creatures and not others (from a biological perspective). I would imagine the Khaasta would get along with Dragonborn rather well - now that the Khaasta are no longer under the influence of Demogorgon, they are a free-willed military society, which is perfect for a mercenary group in the employ of the Dragonborn in 4e (who just happen to have the same exact stats mechanically as the Dragonborn ;) ) And while they are acting as mercenaries for whomever, they keep one eye out for any evidence of Sarrukh or their kith (Nagas and Yuan-ti). Might even be fun to place a small outpost of Khaasta in Orome (sp?), after they wiped out the Liches there and their Asabi minions. I don't think the Shades would take to kindly to a strong military force on their northern border... but who really cares what the Shades like? ![]() This, of course, all pertains to a 4e campaign. |

Wait, don't the dragonborn tend to lean towards good and worship Bahumat. Well, it may be different in the Realms. |
| #6markustay63Jul 20, 2008 14:50:38 | Yeah, I have no idea which way the FR Dragonborn are going to swing - the region and FR's history just screams Tiamet though. Either way, the Khaasta are NOT demons - they were in the care of Demogorgon but they are mortal creatures. I would place them morally ambiguous to human ethics - just like the Sarrukh they hunt. And if they are mercenaries (which I picture them becoming), I don't think it would matter to them which side they served, so long as they get paid and get to kill stuff. ;) By the same token, you can pull a complete 360° and say the Khaasta went to work for the Mulhorandi when the Dragonborn showed up on their doorstep. :D That actually might suit the Khaasta better, depending on how the FR Dragonborn are written and whom they follow. Dragonborn with Bahamut and Khaasta with Tiamet might make for an intersting... My god! What am I doing! Snap out of it Mark... Dragonborn BAD... 3e GOOD... ![]() |

| #8lord_karsusJul 20, 2008 17:59:13 | Also, I wonder if we'll get linking type lore that roots the Sarrukh and Dragonborn together? -Doubtful. Many of the serpentine-Draconic races already mentioned could have been tied together in some way with the Dragonborn, but were not. It is because of that that I say it's doubtful. For a minute I thought we had lost you. Its good to see that you have come to your senses. Almost had to give you a one way ticket to LK's re-education center. -What reeducation center? ![]() -Hey, if someone wants to like something that I don't necessarily like, that's their own problem (:P). Not that it matters, but there's a bunch of things that I like in 4e. |

The 4E player races are all less "alignment oriented" than in previous editions--it is just mentioned that they can be of any alignment (we aren't told that any one race has a tendency towards any alignment). A dragonborn PC might serve Tiamat instead of Bahamut. Or some other deity. |

I’m under the impression from the Countdown to the Realms articles that dragonborn are hostile to dragons. So wouldn’t that include the dragon gods too? As for the Sarrukh’s attitude towards the new nation, they might try to infiltrate the society. |

So wouldn’t that include the dragon gods too? That only applies to the Realms. In the core material, dragonborn were once willing servants of dragons (and aren't hostile as race towards dragons), and many of them worship Bahamut or Tiamat. I have no idea how this will be sorted out in the FR. |
