| #1halcyon_blakeNov 23, 2009 18:52:48 | Hi all, I am a big fan of Dragonlance and was disappointed with Dark Sun, not Dark Sun itself but the its not Dragonlance. Anyway I also like Forgotten Realms since playing LFR and Reading the Time of Troubles trilogy. I haven't really read any Wotc Books since before Dragonlance went to a different planet or so. but I want to create a War of the Lance in Faerun. The only things I'm taking from Dragonlance are the new Draconians and Tiamat and Bahamut being central. No dragonlances, dragon orbs, silver arm guy or other gods migrating. I'm just wondering what faerun would be like in a war torn background. My questions involve which countries would ally with others. I'm starting with Cormyr and Netheril since they seem to have some sort of history, but I'm not to sure who else to include other than Sembia and maybe Cormanthor and the Dales. I also want it to be a continental adventure somewhat. Just looking for plot ideas in a sandbox setting. I am aware of Scales of War material that could be used but again I don't want long drawn out dungeon crawls but rather sandbox one or two session adventures. Thanks in advance. |

Netheril might side with the dragons, if they could gain some power and influence with the deal, while still doing Shars dirty work. Cormyr would definitely ally with the Dales, and Waterdeep and the North. Thay and the Zhents are traditional badguys but i dont see Thay joining with any dragons, the Zhents might, for a time. Cult of the Dragon would definitely be all about siding with Dragons intent on taking over the world. The Harpers of old would probably be fighting some dragons, but theyre more concerned about fighting Netheril these days. |

So far i think Netheril would be ground zero from which the draconians are ritualized. I'm planning on Netheril to blitzkrieg a country or two with Tiamat and Shar backing them. But I'm not planning too far ahead until I actual start the Campaign. Now I just want to have a few interesting encounters that foreshadow war and places where the low level party can go without bumping into an army. At least not yet. |

It could happen, there are alot of dragons in the Realms. I just remembered about the Dragonborn of Tymanther and Returned Abeir. Yeah they would totaly be against the Dragons. |

Also Tiamat is more linked to Bane as she makes her home in his plane (i think, might want to double check). So my thoughts: Cult of the Dragon still exists and Tiamat might support some cells (problem with Dragonborn members though). There are some unorganized resistance in Sembia, which could get some organization from Tiamat. It also fits as Tiamat is a deity of greed, which links with conquest as new lands have new stuff for you to horde. Perhaps an underground movement in Netheril as those who wish for more conquest might turn to her. Bahamut is a god of justice and would link to realms which support justice (Cormyr, Myth Drannor and such), temples which support it (Torm and Illmanter (sp?) for sure) or races which support justice like Dwarves. There is some supporters of this god in the Dragonborn circles, but they are looked down at from the majority of the population. Yet if aid is given and perhaps other actions made (like showing them their previous homeland is on the same world as they are in Returned Abeir), Dragons and Bahamut might gain more tolerance. Thoughts? |
| #6halcyon_blakeNov 26, 2009 15:00:29 | Its sounds like a lot of good information, and the whole Shar and Netheril thing may put a crimp, but I could always say Tiamat and Shar go on picnics and are best of friends now. Outside from the few countries around them I don't know where else the country allegiances would go when it turns into a world war (which is where I want it to go). I want to avoid involving Bane because he's got his black hand in everything but he could offer Zhent agents in exchange for something from Tiamat. I never liked dragonborn because I liked Draconians better, but I could relegate them to background duty and hopefully none of my players will be dragonborn. To heck with the monster manuals and draconomicon, my metallic dragons are good. I guess I could keep Dragonlances reasons for not involving them in the war, afterall to have draconians I need their eggs. I do have plans for a few metallic dragons being unknowing accomplices to Tiamat and whatever evil countries are allied. |

| #10lord_karsusDec 11, 2009 22:26:07 | Wasn't it "destroyed"? -Yes. It was destroyed completely, not just merely "destroyed", dissolved, obliterated, etc.. The Year of the Rogue Dragons trilogy. |
