Drizzt,Elminster and other npcs?

Is there any kind of official announcement about Drizzt,Elminster or any other powerfull npc?
I know Drizzt is still alive but nothing more...
Elminster is now just a weak,insane mage after Mystra was killed?

Sorry with these noob questions but i havent played for 4 years.And its my first time in the site:embarrass
The 4th edition forgotten realms campaign guide sais nothing of these npcs...
I scrolled almost all posts.Is there any official response from Wotc?or are we just speculating about the fate of Drizzt and Elminster after the spellplague?

Actually, Elminster is mentioned in the FRCG, most prominently with the sidebar and accompanying illustration at p. 113. I'm not sure where you got the "weak, insane" idea. He's described as retaining "his immortality and considerable arcane power" and being "no less intelligent, experienced, and quick-witted than before."

As for Drizzt, I believe the best information about his status in 1479 is in the prologue and epilogue to The Orc King. There may be more in The Pirate King, which I believe comes out tomorrow, coincidentally enough.

I read somewhere in this site that Elminster was insane for years after the spellplague and that he had lost most of his powers cause Mystra died.

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.
As for Drizzt...i think i have some reading to do;)

Oct 06, 2008 10:51:25 Oh, no worries, it's perfectly understandable. There for awhile there was a lot more noise than signal about the fourth edition Realms here and elsewhere in the tubes. I've found it best to check the actual sources, or at least ask people to clearly source their claims about what the what might be.

You've inspired me to change my .sig line! See the stuff listed in that linked bibliography--the resources listed there are more trustworthy than the likes of me! :D

-The Countdown to the Realms articles. Nothing contradicts them, or says otherwise, so Elminster still has various voices in his head that cause him to not use Arcane magic, lest he "free" them.

Ah! I've missed at least one then. I didn't see that in the three "Countdown" articles I've been able to track down, though I may have just read right over it. Are there others online someplace besides these?

Thanks, Lord Karsus. You mean this one, right? 'Cause I only see those three I've mentioned in the section labeled Online DRAGON Magazine. I thought you might be thinking of one of the other Dragon articles linked from that thread, but I've read all those and I'm pretty sure there's nothing about Elminster being weak or insane in them.

Oct 07, 2008 18:01:16 Hey Rathelon, I'm sure LK meant to drop back in and clarify this, but the two of us did a sort of parallel research effort and it turns out there's nothing in the published canon about Elminster's mental state beyond what you found there in the FRCG. I believe he was thinking of something he heard in a panel or interview with Ed Greenwood, stuff that Ed's since kind of pitched even more change ups on, as is his puckish wont. :D

Anyway, don't let a bunch of eisegetical chaff clog up your intakes, and have fun catching up!

Oct 07, 2008 22:59:15 As for the fate of Drizzt, I went to a RA Salvatore book signing and he discussed Drizzt's fate with 4th edition coming out. He said he's concentrating on his current book trilogy and isn't interested in the 4th ed world yet. He wants to see how it plays out and how the mood is when it settles. He wrote the prelude in the Orc King but was purposefully very vague as to the fate of most everyone except for Drizzt.

I understood and agreed with most of his points.

The best part for me was that he said that he saw the end of Road of the Patriarch as Artemis Entreri's final moment until he got an overwhelming response from his fan base and he said "I can't ignore that and I won't". Awesome!

Ofc these powerful characters aren't that important in a campaign but they are very valuable in the lore of the realms.
Plus my PC's kept on asking me about them.(Especially after i told them about Mystra's death and the spellplague).Well at least now i know what to tell them.
Btw my players already reached lvl 4 last night.And they completed the Keep on the Shadowfell adventure.(forgotten realms conversion).They were so excited!
After 4 years of online mmorpg games its safe to say that nothing compares to a dnd game.Fantasy in our head is so much better than some moving pixels in a screen.Forgive my outburst but you have no idea what i went through to make them play dnd again.Now... they just keep begging me to play again.
Like i said before it feels so good to be back.And with this site and the help of you guys i feel like a more powerful DM than ever.

That is awesome, Artemis and also Jarlaxle are my two favourite (and only favourite) characters in FR.

I didn't see that in the three "Countdown" articles I've been able to track down, though I may have just read right over it. Are there others online someplace besides these?
